Famous Taiwan star Sun Yueh earlier was rushed to Taiwan University hospital for gallstones and later suffered chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The hospital yesterday confirmed that Sun Yueh passed away from septicaemia compounded with multiple organ failure at age 87 on the evening of May 1st at 9:56PM. Sun Yueh's family through the hospital sincerely thanked everyone for their care and concern for Sun Yueh.
Always "Uncle Sun", he won the Golden Horse Award Best Actor with PAPA CAN YOU HEAR ME SING and received a special contribution award. In 1989 after making TWO PAINTERS he announced that he would retire from show business and only perform for charity as he became a lifetime volunteer. He also spared no effort in promoting quitting smoking. Although Sun Yueh successfully quit smoking after 37 years, in 2007 he was still diagnosed with lung adenocarcinoma. After surgery in recent years it developed into chronic obstructive pulmonary disease as he frequently returned to the hospital.
