The Wong Kar Wai directed, Tony Leung Chiu wai and Zhang Ziyi starred THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI) has been in production for years and finally announced its release on December 18. Wai Jai earlier completed his additional shoot and the entire production has wrapped. Promotions, costumes and trailers have gradually been unveiled. However, recently the film has been rumored to "retreat" from its slot in the Mainland. Yesterday at a certain cinema circuit events someone was asked about the release date. He had no answer. The rumor was that the release has been postponed for a week.
Sil-Metropole said that it has not received the Mainland official "slot retreat" or delay news. The Mainland release date will remain December 18, December 27 in Hong Kong and 28 in Taiwan; the promotional strategy and interviews have not changed as no halt information has been received. Other film releases on December 18 included Jackie Chan's CZ12, Huang Xiaoming's THE GUILLOTINES (HUET DIK JI) and Chow Yun Fat's THE LAST TYCOON (DAI SEUNG HOI).
