The event had artificial snow to coordinate with the grandeur of man in command of wind and snow. Tsui Hark said that the film was a classic story. He would create this film with respect and caution. On one hand he would explore how to display the snow and ice elements with the 3D technology and on the other he matched with the original story with the actual location. Tsui Hark earlier while studying in the U.S. in the 70s saw the Beijing Opera version. The battle of wits story was very exciting; later he read the original novel again. He has always wanted to make this story, but the film adaptation right issue was not easy to resolve. Finally with Bona's hard work it was successfully obtained. Tsui Hark said that the film's successful production start, he was reminded of a late friend, famous director Xie Jin. At the time Xie Jin encouraged him to make the film and assisted him, which Tsui Hark could not forget. Now finally he is able to fulfill his promise to his friend.
