Juno Mak Chun Lung was originally scheduled to hold two "The
Album: In the Name of a Father" concerts at the HKCEC in December last
year. Due to his bronchitis, they were postponed to take place at
AsiaWorld-Expo the night before. The new generation of singers such as
MIRROR member Anson Kong (AK), COLLAR member Marf Yau Yin Tung and
Wilson Ng Lam Fung were invited as guests, as well as Yan Ng Yat
Yan who has already moved to the UK. She and Mak Chun Lung sang
RASHOMON in the surprise finale. When Mak Chun Lung sang the last
song "I'll Be Waiting in Chernobyl", he said teary eyed, "There's
a time for gathering and parting." The film he directed SONS OF
THE NEON NIGHTS (FUNG LUM FOR SHAN) premiered at the Cannes Film
Festival earlier and had mixed reviews. He believed that the
film only had one foreign premiere so far, so it was too early
to say anything. He believed that each film has its own life,
and his responsibility was to do a good job in post-production.
The Hong Kong release date would wait for the distributor
to make arrangements.
The Mak Chun Lung's film SONS OF THE NEON NIGHTS premiered at
the Cannes Film Festival earlier and received mixed reviews, with some
criticizing the complex and incoherent storyline to others praising the
outstanding visuals. His confidence in the film has not been dampened,
saying that as a filmmaker hearing two different voices was not
surprising at all. The film has only made one out-of-town premiere so
far, and everything was still early to say. Some pointed out that the
film was too long, after editing and condensing the audience felt the
film was incoherent and they were unable to understand it. Mak Chun
Lung explained, "All the details, secrets and easter eggs are hidden in
the film. This movie's storytelling is different from other films. You
will have to ask distributors when it will be released in Hong Kong. I
believe that every film has its own destiny, and my responsibility is to
do the best work in the post-production. When the film is released it
is the birth of a life, and I will accompany it."
