The famous martial arts instructor and veteran artist Suet Nei's husband, Tang Chia (Tong Kai, originally named Wong Tong) fell to his death yesterday afternoon at the junction of Austin Road and Pine Hill Road in Tsim Sha Tsui at the age of 88. No suicide note was found at the scene, and the cause of death was pending an autopsy. Reportedly Tong Kai and lived in a unit in Jordan with his wife Suet Nei and their son. Suet Nei has recently been hospitalized with pancreatic cancer, and Tong Kai was suspected of being unhappy because of his wife's illness.

Around 5pm today, the police received a report that a man had fallen to his death from above at the junction of Austin Road and Pine Hill Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. According to the preliminary investigation by the police, the 88-year-old deceased male surnamed Wong fell from the roof of a building at the above address and died on the spot. The police did not find any suicide note at the scene, and the cause of death was pending an autopsy. Reportedly Suet Nei recently needed to be hospitalized due to pancreatic cancer, and Tong Kai was suspected of being unhappy because of his wife's illness.

The media contacted Chin Kar Lok about Tong Kai's death, and Kar Lok replied that he did not know the reason for Tong Kai's suicide. Everything would be better left for Tong Kai's family to announce, and the Stuntmen Association would try to get an understanding as soon as possible. If any help would be needed, the association would definitely help. Bowie Wu Fung was surprised to hear about Tong Kai, and instead asked the reporter what happened. He said, "We have been friends for decades, but we have not contacted each other much in recent years. Why would this happen?" Anita Tam Shuk Ying has been in contact with Suet Nei from time to time. She said that before the New Year she also had tea with Tong Kai and Suet Nei. Brother Kai has been sick in recent years but was very positive. He said that he had to watch what he ate and did not eat much at tea last time.

The 88-year-old Tong Kai was formerly known as Wong Tong. He was Chang Cheh's official martial arts director in the 1960s, directed the movies SHAOLIN PRINCE (SIU LUM CHUEN YUN), SHAOLIN INTRUDERS (SAM CHONG SIU LUM) and LIGHTNING FISTS OF SHAOLIN (HUNG KUEN DAI SI) in the 1980s and later joined TVB as a martial arts director. He was a disciple of Yuen Woo Ping's father Yuen Siu Ping, while working on THE DARK HEROINE MU LANHUA he met his wife Suet Nei. Tong Kai's wife Suet Nei was a popular star in the Cantonese film era. The two had two sons. They once eased out of the entertainment industry and moved to Canada, but later returned to Hong Kong. Tong Kai and Suet Nei had a deep love. Married for more than half a century, they were a model couple in the circle. When Suet Nei later came back to work on TV series, Tong Kai was the "tag-along husband" as he accompanied her in and out of the set. Because Suet Nei found that a genetic disease has affected her ears in the 80s, she was completely deaf in one ear and needed to wear hearing aids. Tong Kai was worried about the inconveniences his wife would face alone outside, hence he constantly stood guard and served as his wife's personal hearing aid. Whenever Tong Kai went to the set with his wife, he would prepare soup lovingly every time. They were inseparable as he accompanied her to work and took good care of her. Suet Nei once said in an interview that her personality was sassy, fortunately she had a significant other who spoiled her. Her husband would always give in during arguments, for which she was grateful inside. Suet Nei announced her official retirement in 2020 due to poor health.

Around 9 AM on the 24th, Tong Kai's song and three female friends and family members arrived at the Kwai Chung public mortuary for the body identification process. They solemnly left after a hour. His son did not comment when asked about his father's passing, as he turned around and left in a vehicle.

Reportedly Suet Nei has recently suffered from pancreatic cancer and needs to be hospitalized long term for treatment. Earlier, Tong Kai had revealed to his son that he was unhappy and hoped to die with his wife Suet Nei. Allegedly before the incident he was preparing to sign a will, and there was a relevant document left in his residence. The preliminarily belief was that he had committed suicide due to the emotional impact of his wife's serious illness. In August last year the couple appeared together in public. They met friends at that time and behaved as usual.

One of the works he was the most proud of was the design of a blade that could rotate 360 degrees for the actor Ti Lung in THE MAGIC BLADE (TIN NGAI. MING YUET. DOH) to match his title of "the fastest blade in the world" in the film. Ti Lung was shocked by the death of his former colleague. "What a shock, so painful! He and I were colleagues and neighbors when I was younger......He took good care of me when he was working, and he was a very responsible person. Whether it was family, career, or friends he did everything to its fullest......I can only say that the flowers may bloom again one day, but people won't see each other again. Have a safe journey."

Tong Kai's disciple John Chiang Dai Wai posted photos with Tong Kai, Lau Kar Leung and Chang Chen. "My three most important masters in this lifetime have already passed on without me." Chiang Dai Wai joined Shaw's in 1966 and became a member of Tong Kai's stunt team. Because of the martial art action in GOLDEN SWALLOW (GUM YIN JI) he caught the eyes of big time director Chang Cheh, who made him the lead in THE WANDERING SWORDSMAN (YAU HUP YI).
