The Pang Ho Cheung directed LOVE IN A PUFF (CHI MING YU CHUN GIU) was inspired by smokers who were surrounded trash cans like "hot pot casserole" outside after the full smoking ban in Hong Kong. He came up with this romantic film that started next to a trash can. Leads Miriam Yeung Chin Wa and Shawn Yue Man Lok had to keep smoking in the film. The film passed the censors lately but was slapped with a category III rating due to its realistic foul language scenes, leaving the director helpless.
Earlier, the director and the duo appeared in front of a Stanley library to shoot the poster. Chin Wa only said about the category III rating due to foul language, "I personally feel this is realistic Hong Kong culture. Can we ask the company to release two versions, then the above 18 audience can watch. Otherwise the category III version with parental guidance shouldn't be a problem." Chin Wa gave many firsts to this film. Because this film's subject was modern adult romance, a lot of times the dialogue was more vulgar. She said, "I normally rarely use foul language, in the film I can say I didn't. The dialogue is only a little more vulgar. I thought foul language use in movies wouldn't be so natural, but as soon as I was on my mark I couldn't be more fluent. Maybe because Yue Man Lok looked tough enough, being a little rougher was no big deal." Lok Jai was surprised to learn about the film's category III rating. He said, "It's wasn't seriously foul, just local Hong Kong culture, it's a shame that it got a category III rating. When I watch foreign films they are always dropping the f-bombs, I personally feel it's no big deal."
Pang Ho Cheung currently is negotiating with Media Asia to decide whether to release the film with the category III rating. He said, "Chin Wa and Lok Jai out of the blue made a category III film, I am afraid that people would misunderstand. After all Chin Wa just became Mrs. Ting." During the poster shoot, many children passed by. Chin Wa was very happy to see them and even wanted pictures with them. A metaphysics expert predicted that after her retirement Yeung Chin Wa will focus on having children. She said, "I have no special plan, having children is something that you can't long for."
