The Shu Qi starred, Andrew Lau Wai Keung directed drama BEAUTIFUL LIFE (MEI LAI YUN SUN) yesterday shot in a coffee shop. Other actors included Monie Tung Man Lei and Wilfred Lau Ho Lung. In the film, Shu Qi who played a woman from Hong Kong went to work in the Mainland but ran into a swindler Andrew Lin Hoi, who stole her money and heart. Has she had any similar experience? She said, "That depends on what angle you look at it. When you are unhappy then you feel you are cheated, if you are happy then even when you are cheated you still feel comfortable about it!"
Recently "young models" have stirred up another storm. Shu Qi who has posed for photo collections felt it was no big deal because the society has already become more and more open. When women put their figures on display, men love to watch. Women thus would continue to keep fit. Since it benefits many, why not? However Shu Qi dared not agree with the "rape video". She felt that girls could display their figures as long as they were happy, self photography on the other hand was not. Shu Qi once worked with Chrissie Chau Sau Na in the film CITY UNDER SIEGE (CHUEN SING GAI BEI). Anthony Wong Chau Sun called Chau Sau Na brainless, Shu Qi honestly said that she had no idea what happened but felt that Chau Sun only spoke up because he did not want to misguide children. She also said that nothing was bad about promoting through normal channels. As for whether she should publish a photo collection everyone had their own opinions. If they were happy they should. She also praised Chau Sau Na. "I feel she is very nice very cut, even I feel her figure is great. Maybe the promotional methods are management or company arranged and have nothing due to with the artist."
Shu Qi also called Lau Wai Keung "twisted" because during the shoot he wanted her to keep crying and gave her a lot of pressure. When asked will she avoid working with Lau Wai Keung for now, she joked, "Tell him if he has a movie not to come and find me!" Then she said that although this time has been tough it has been very happy. She also thanked the director for giving her a challenge. However for an action film director, he also had a challenge and big break through with this drama. She joked, "I too accepted this film in a state of shock."
Lau Wai Keung said that he already had a plan to make a drama since 2000, but at the time he ran into many problems. The plan did not come to fruition until ten years later, but over these ten years he has always intended for Shu Qi to be the female lead. As for Shu Qi calling him twist, Lau Wai Keung said that he was only tough because the film was about more heart breaking love. When he read the script he already knew it would be difficult on the actors' mentality. To keep everyone from a heartbreak until the end, he hoped to have a happy ending. The film will not be released until next year.
