Donnie Yen Chi Tan yesterday attended the Lunar New Year film THE MONKEY KING (DAI YAU GEI ji DAI LAU TIN GUNG) gods and demons duel version trailer press conference. The trailer was two minutes long. Sun Wukong Yen Chi Tan and Jade Emperor Chow Yun Fat, Bull Demon King Aaron Kwok Fu Sing began a series of fierce battles; Fat Gor even transformed into a dragon to battle Sun Wukong to the end, which was exciting and intense. Yen Chi Tan who watched the trailer for the first time thought it was very shocking. He said that the boss and the director had a lot of determination and sincerity.
Yen Chi Tan revealed that while shooting THE MONKEY KING, the special effect make up took 1,000 hours. Every time he had to sit still for 5 hours. "It was very stressful, like being in prison. I couldn't eat, before I ate I had to remove my monkey teeth." Would he play Sun Wukong again? Yen Chi Tan immediately said, "No would be the best, it's too tough! Actor should have a tough time from making movies, but this film's physical and mental torture was too much for me." Later he again said, "Never say never! However I really don't want to. I am exhausted physically and mentally and have a sense of fear. We shall see!"
Yen Chi Tan said that every movie production has been tough, but THE MONKEY KING was especially tough. He said, "Sun Wukong was full of explosiveness and power, his limbs were very cohesive and his facial features moved a lot, from the beginning to the end when I faced the Jade Emperor I had to kneel. It's very tired and draining, I really wanted to die! Because the director gave me a lot of space, halfway through the performance as like a 100 meter race. I couldn't stop even when I was very tired, otherwise the previous scene would be wasted. Every time was like running uphill, the stress was enormous!"
Supposedly he made over 200 million yuan in 2013. Yen Chi Tan said, "How can the number be accurate? (Louis) Koo Tin Lok made more than me. Don't pay attention to the numbers, just pay attention to my hard work. I am very simple, all the clothes are from sponsors." He did not know how much tax he will have to pay, as he left that for the accountants to handle.
