* (2025/12/30) The Christmas box office fell 35% compared to last year, and "Finding Qin" and "Avatar 3" were regarded as saviors Article date: December 30, 2025Share During Christmas, more than 2.3 million Hong Kong people raveled abroad, and the Hong Kong film box office was significantly affected. Yesterday the box office revenue of the Christmas schedule (December 24-26) was announced, down 35.69% from last year. Opening on New Year's Eve and early Jaunary, BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI) and AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH have been regarded as saviors, hoping to boost the film box office. BACK TO HE PAST leads Louis Koo Tin Lok and Jessica Hester Hsuan (Suen Huen) led the team to promote hard, and their interesting interactions have also become hot topics. TVB has not yet prepared for A STEP INTO THE PAST re-runs, but the show topped myTV SUPER "Most Like to Watch" column and clashed prime time dramas and programs.
Hong Kong Box Office Co., Ltd. comprehensively reported the 2025 Christmas box office, with a total revenue of HK$ 13,460,458 for Chinese and foreign films in Hong Kong. The box office decreased by 35.69% compared with 20,931,989 yuan in the same period last year, mainly due to the lack of new films released during the Christmas schedule. Disney's animation ZOOTOPIA 2 reached the top, closing at $5,641,836 from December 24 to 26, followed by ANACONDA in second place, and the Hong Kong film UNDER CURRENT (NOI MOK) ranked third at $757,559; GOLDEN BOY (GUM TUNG) and PASS AND GOAL (YIK JUEN SEUNG BOON CHEUNG) ranked seventh and eighth respectively.
The Louis Cheung Kai Chung starred movie "GOLDEN BOY (GUM TUNG)" has soared at the box office during the long holiday, already exceeding HK$ 10 million. Ah Chung has been thanking audiences all over for a few days in a row. During the period a viewer asked, "Has Ah Kay (wife Kay Tse On Kay) been very supportive of you?" Although his wife was not present, Ah Chung smiled as soon as he talked about her and had nothing but praise. "She has helped a lot in the promotion and the release of the movie, and her infinite support for me!" He even shouted, "Definitely thank you very much, wife!"
Cheung Kai Chung asked if his character Cheung Lik would wake up for "GOLDEN BOY 2". He revealed that "GOLDEN BOY"'s other ending was that Cheung Lik and his son brought the "golden belt" to the tomb of Fong Ling (Ali Lee Kai Sum), but this scene was deleted and an open ending was left for the audience to decide.
Regarding the good results at the box office, Ah Chung posted on social networks, "Under such a market, we are able to reach HK$ 10 million at the box office. Thank you very much to my team. It has been an uphill climb from the start. The road was very difficult, but we still talked and joked. Step by step, we finally get to see the most beautiful sunrise!"
BACK TO THE PAST and AVATAR: FIRE AND ASH would open on New Year's Eve and early January respectively. So far pre-sales have yielded good results, hoping to boost the film box office next year. BACK TO THE PAST leads Louis Koo Tin Lok, Jessica Hester Hsuan (Suen Huen), Raymond Lam Fung and Kevin Chu Kam Yin have been promoting hard. Earlier on the TVB program STAR WEEKLY, Suen Huen and Koo Tin Lok's "Unearthed Goo Video Test" segment has become a hot topic. In 1994 Suen Huen publicly questioned TVB for favoring singers for tardiness on drama productions. In the film Koo Tin Lok propped up his head with his hands and stared at Suen Huen. Suen Huen watched the clip, laughed and said, "I still say thank you very much to the company for not freezing (suspending) me, this is the truth!" Koo Tin Lok continued, "Everyone have been late for drama shoots." Unexpectedly Suen Huen retorted seriously, "I'm not late." Koo Tin Lok immediately switched to "brown nosing". "Then you would be Ah Jeh."
The program also dug up a clip of Koo Tin Lok singing shirtless in 1997 at the "Capital Artists Silver Anniversary Concert", Suen Huen was surprised, asked Koo Tin Lok why was he willing to do it and revealed that he did not like to sing. "It's like pushing you to die". Koo Tin Lok changed the topic awkwardly and revealed that he was afraid of crowds. "When you (at that time) scolded the singers, I sat in the back and wanted to die too......Hey, there are so many people. Don't say that you pushed me to do things, if I didn't do things I would still die, I can't do it around so many people."
Koo Tin Lok, Raymond Lam Fung and Jessica Hester Hsuan (Suen Huen) recently promoted the movie BACK TO THE STEP (CHUM CHUN GEI), and mainland audiences responded positively to this HK$350 million film production, with a pre-sale box office of more than 120 million yuan (about HK$133 million). Recently when the three of them went north to promote, they signed autographs on the stage. Suen Huen saw that Goo Jai was signing bigger and bigger and could not help but ask, "Why are you signing so big?" Goo Jai joked, "It's not big, it's just long!" Suen Huen laughed so hard that she rolled her eyes. When asked to send hearts during the group photo, Koo Tin Lok was at the mercy of Suen Huen as they clasped their hands to form a heart in a funny scene.
In addition, A GUILTY CONSCIENCE (DUK SIT DAI JONG) director Jack Ng Wai Lun along with original cast members Dayo Wong Tze Wah, Louise Wong Dan Nei, Renci Yeung Sze Wing and Dee Ho Kai Wah added Sammi Cheng Sau Man in NIGHT KING (YEH WONG); and the Philip Yung Tsz Kwong written and directed, MIRROR member Edan Lui Cheuk On, Chung Suet Ying and Elaine Jin (Kam Yin Ling) starred SNOWBALL ON A SUNNY DAY (GUM DOR BO) would also open during the Lunar New Year. Yung Tsz Kwong made his first comedy, saying that he missed the time when he went to the theater with his father and younger brother to watch Lunar New Year movies when he was a child. This time he asked his favorites actors in hopes of the general public would attend happily and leave with a sense of warmth.
The MIRROR member Edan Lui Cheuk On, Chung Suet Ying, Elaine Jin (Kam Yin Ling), Jiro Lee Sheung Ching, Harriet Yeung Sze Man (Shrimp Head) starred Lunar New Year film SNOWBALL IN A SUNNY DAY (GUM DOR BO) is about to be launched, announcing in advance that it has invited Best Actor Michael Hui Koon Man and Best Actress Nina Paw Hee Ching for surprise assistance. The story told the strange experience of a family playing the lottery, with tears within the laughter.
SNOWBALL ON A SUNNY DAY tells the story of Grandma (Kam Yin Ling) who entrusted her granddaughter Lam Tin Ching (Chung Suet Ying) to play the Mark Six lottery with the same set of lucky numbers for more than ten years. The granddaughter did not place the bet for the New Spring lottery that hit the HK$ 88.88 million grand prize. The granddaughter could not bear to break her grandmother's dream, so she borrowed the villa for filming from her studio colleague Lai Cho Him (Lui Cheuk On), falsely claiming that she bought it with the winning prize. A series of event takes place after the family moves in.
In the trailer the Golden Horse Awards Best Actress with THE WAY WE TALK (HONG NGOR GUM TIN JUM MOR SUET) last year, Chung Suet Ying showed all her skills. In just half a minute her mood changed greatly, nervous at one moment and excited at another. She was so moved that she hugged her family as well. She said excitedly, "For the New Year when the whole family is together it is the happiest. There are laughter and tears in the film, as exciting as making a fortune in the New Year! Working with a group of amazing actors, I finally understood the true meaning of 'dropping laugh bombs'."
