Artist Frankie Lam Man Lung, comic book creator Tony Wong Yuk Long invested, Rachel Lam Hei Tung written, directed and starred film THE MERGER (NGOR MOON TING JIN BA!)'s 27 international awards were under suspicion of being made up when someone commented on social media under the film critic name "Shu Kei". Wong Yuk Long's company Global Saga Media Entertainment yesterday issued a statement to deny the accusation and added links to information of the 27 awards to prove their authenticity.
Rachel yesterday attended a screening that 80 fans have booked for her to celebrate her birthday next month. She said about the accusations, "My first reaction was I didn't dare to be it was true. It had to make up something I would make up 28 awards, which sounds luckier! The film development fund invested in the film, every award had to be confirmed. Making them up would be hard. This accusation was very severe, burying the team's hard work. Actually I think they want to help us pump up the Mid Autumn slot box office?" The related comments were removed. Did she want the related film critic to clarify the matter? Rachel admitted, "If the comments didn't come from him, he was being framed too. Clarification would be a good thing."
The film's executive producer and lead actor Lam Man Lung said, "We are trying to confirm whether it was his comment. If it is, we will definitely take action. I am pretty puzzled. With his position, he should so easily make a comment. If we were making something up, we would've made up something amazing! If anyone can make it up, we wouldn't be the first ones to do it." Investor Wong Yuk Long said, "Famous people shouldn't just talk without any evidence, not to mention how far gone the comment was. He is only harming himself. The 27 awards are very real, since it is so rare that Hong Kong film wins awards, he should be supportive and not randomly insulting. We will definitely take action, once we confirm that he really was the one who said it then we would chew him up, no questions asked! Victory is certain for us!" Shu Kei had no comment on the matter.
