The 22nd Busan International Film Festival yesterday announced that director John Woo (Ng Yu Sum) will attend for the first time and hold a Pan-Asia Gala Premiere for MANHUNT (JUI BO) at the festival. It will the first stop in Asia after its European and American premieres.
Ng Yu Sum has had quite a connection with Korea. As early as in 1975 he already made his action film THE DRAGON TAMERS (NUI JI TOI KUEN KWUN YING WUI) in Korea for the first time and became famous. Later his films including A BETTER TOMORROW (YING HUNG BOON SIK), THE KILLER (DIP HUET SEUNG HUNG) had a generation of Korean fans under their spell. Ng Yu Sum has always been the most popular Hong Kong director in Korea. His films have been influential to Korean directors. Thus the Busan International Film Festival organizers have looked forward to Director Ng's visit very much and invited him many times. Finally their sincerity moved Director Ng and Korean viewers would be able to salute Director Ng through the Busan International Film Festival.
MANHUNT earlier has already held its global premiere in Venice, yesterday it also held screenings at the Toronto Film Festival. Then the film will return to Asia and be screened at the Busan International Film Festival.
In addition, Ng Yu Sum earlier ended his Venice trip and returned to Beijing. When he was at dinner with his partners, Wu Jing who was dining nearby rushed over to greet him. Despite his recent surgery to treat an old ailment, Wu Jing still insisted on going to the restaurant with his cane.
