The Andy Lau Tak Wa produced and starred film THE WHITE STORM 2: DRUG LORDS (SO DUK 2: TIN DEI DUI KUET) was being sued by Chengdu Universal Bona Culture Media Co. Ltd for allegedly plagiarizing the 2006 film LOVE FROM ANGEL (YUEN MEI CHING YUN). Lau Tak Wa, the film's release company, 3 screenwriters and others were named in the lawsuit that has demanded 999,999,990,000 yuan RMB (around HK$ 110 million).
Universal Bona has exhibited the court as many as 95 pieces of evidence, including almost 40 minutes of "plagiarism comparison videos" and 16 videos and 196 points of complete plagiarism details. However the defendant Lau Tak Wa did not appear in person, only his attorney represented him in court. Recently the Beijing Intellectual Property Rights court held its second official hearing of the case. The defendants continued to deny plagiarism and said that the plaintiff's film LOVE was a romance while WHITE was a crime film, any plagiarism would be impossible. Universal Bona's chairman A Sam said that the case's hearing has already ended. The plaintiff expressed unwillingness to mediate in court. Thus the court would schedule another date to announce the verdict of the case.
