The 77th Cannes Film Festival would take place between May 14th and 25th. Yesterday Cannes Film Festival announced its first round of films. Hong Kong directors Peter Chan Ho Sun and Soi Cheang Pou Soi would bring their new films to Cannes.

Hong Kong director Soi Cheang Pou Soi directed TWLIGHT OF THE WARRIORS: WALLED IN (GAU LUNG SING JAI ji WAI SING) has been selected for the midnight screening. The cast included Louis Koo Tin Lok, Sammo Hung Kam Bo, Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai), Raymond Lam Fung and others. The film was based on the Yu Yi original novel CITY OF DARKNESS (GAU LUNG SING JAI). In the 80s, the mob fought over territories within the notoriously lawless region Kowloon Walled City and dangers lurked at every turn. A troubled youth on the run stumbled his way into it, but unexpectedly found brotherhood.

It has been 11 years since the previous Hong Kong film was selected for a screening at the festival, when BLIND DETECTIVE (MAN TAM) was chosen in 2013. Director Cheang Pou Soi said that the film was full of Hong Kong specialties, a very authentic domestic action film. He hoped that the film's Cannes selection would be a start, for European audience to continue to pay attention to the city of Hong Kong and current Hong Kong films. Although the Walled City no longer existed, he hoped to be able through the film to preserve it and introduce it to even more people. Koo Tin Lok responded, "Of course I am very happy, for 10 years no Hong Kong film has been selected for this "Midnight Screening" segment. It also proved that the Hong Kong action films would be able to break into the international stage. I hope that this movie would have great word of mouth when it would open everywhere." One of the lead actors Lam Fung said, "I am very happy to know that another Hong Kong film was able to be selected by the Cannes Film Festival for its 'midnight screening segment" after 11 years. I am grateful to have the chance to star in this movie. I hope to be able to share my contribution with audience around the world, and also hope to be able to make even more serious and high quality films like this."
