Martial arts movie star Bruce Leung Siu Lung's ex-wife Irene Ryder (Lai Oi Lin) passed away at the North District Hospital on September 1 at the age of 75. Lai's daughter Anne Leung announced the news of her mother's death and the funeral arrangements yesterday, and the funeral will be held at the Kowloon Funeral Parlor on October 4 with a Catholic ceremony. Lai Oi Lin, who is of mixed Chinese and British descent, was active in the entertainment industry from the 1960s to the 1970s, recording and acting in films. She fell in love with Leung Siu Lung, who was a stuntman at the time, and had a daughter after marriage.

There are different versions of how Lai was attacked outside her apartment in January 1979, disfigured and affected her life. Reportedly someone threw acid at Lai Oi Lin, and according to reports back then she was disfigured by fire. Later, Lai revealed in an interview that someone covered her head with a gasoline soaked suit that was then set on fire, causing her to suffer severe burns. It was rumored that her attack was related to someone seeking revenge on Leung Siu Lung, which she and Leung Siu Lung both denied. Lai Oi Lin, disfigured and traumatized, spent more than HK$ 4 million on facial reconstructive surgery, divorced Leung Siu Lung in 1980, and then left the entertainment industry for a long time. Later she made a comeback, and once collaborated with Joe Junior to release a record.
