The Simon Yam Ta Wa and Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin starred film SARA (CHOR GEI) had a good opening in Hong Kong, making over HK$ 1 million. Its HK$ 1,181,520 box office was considered ideal for a non holiday, not to mention putting it on top of the box office. Other new releases included the Hollywood film CHAPPiE, which made HK$ 880,990; THE FOX CATCHER made HK$ 33,177; Eric Tsang Chi Wai's new film LUCKY STAR 2015 (GUT SING GO JIU 2015) made HK$ 16,180; LEVIATHAN made HK$ 10,875; and Xu Jinglei's new film SOMEWHERE ONLY WE KNOW made HK$ 5,738.
Director Herman Yau Lai To was very nervous about the box office because he really liked this film. In addition all of the actors, producer Chapman To Man Chak, screen writer Lee Man and others all put a lot of heart into the film. He asked the promotional personnel not to be afraid of upsetting him and to relay the box office information when they had it at midnight. He joked that he absolutely could take it. He did not expect that by midnight the film already made over HK$ 1 million. Screen writer Lee Man said that she cried like when her daughter was accepted at a prestigious school; however she did not dare to be too happy because Hong Kong film had less and less space to survive. Now with this performance she hoped that the film will have momentum.
Choi Cheuk Yin and Yam Tat Wa of course were ecstatic about the box office. Many viewers commented online, saying that Ah Sa's performance this time was a breakthrough and felt like a transformation. Some even said that after watching this film they sincerely liked her performance in it. The lead were working hard on their schedules for a celebration, but they were so busy. The film will open in Singapore on March 26 and later in Taiwan.
