THE GRANDMASTER (YUT DOI JUNG SI) brought Zhang Ziyi's career to another peak. Aside from the outstanding box office performance during its release, she brought her character Gong Er's persistence for love and dominance in the martial art world to life. She not only won word of mouth but also many Best Actress film awards like the Huabiao Award, the Golden Horse Award and the Asian Film Award.
If Ziyi wins the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress, she will become the "Zhang Nine Queen" and surpassing the seven Best Actor award record of THE BEAST STALKERS' Nick Cheung Ka Fai to be the "strongest in history" in the Chinese film industry. No wonder each time she won she would immediately thank "mentor" Wong Kar Wai and co-star Tony Leung Chiu Wai.
