The young new director Yan Ran directed suspense disaster film TOGETHER and family comedy SWEET JOURNEY starting today will be released nationwide. Both films that were shot in Guizhou but had different classes of miners and intellectual youth and life subjects of life and death and loneliness.

Although both were Guizhou subjects, the film styles differed. TOGETHER was a "performance with motivation, viewing with tears" suspense disaster film about a mining disaster. Three miners in the dark encouraged each other and survived 25 days, exceeding the 8 day survival limit of previous world mining disasters. The film entered several hundred meters below ground and shot in a virtual mine, with massive explosion, water leakage, collapse, buried alive disaster scenes that challenged the visual senses to become a daring attempt in national films. The other film was called the Mainland version ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW (SHUI YUET SUN TAU), a family nostalgia film that was full of a sense of the period. SWEET JOURNEY starred Zhang Hanyu, Yu Na, Xiao Jian. The film through two children's points of view was about the first spring of 80s, when an era changed in China. Although the subject was rather sizable and serious, the director handled the film with a light and warm touch.

Reportedly, the films would be distributed regionally, the first time that the Mainland attempted this distribution. Speaking of both of his films being released at the same time, director Yan Ran said, "The film market is so cruel. The two films are like children who I carried for ten months, I hope they can grow. When they are released at the same time, on one hand although I am competing with myself, on the other they are competing against other films together. Let's leave the choice to viewers."
