Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) promoted WU XIA in Cannes. He said that he saw the film for the first time there and was teary eyed from how touching it was. Although the film won passionate praises at the festival, Gum Sing Mo jokingly asked Peter Chan Ho Sun whether he could stop making his movies larger and larger and make some more relaxed ones instead. Gum Sing Mo said that each time he played a role he would have many ideas, thus years ago he thought about directing. After working with Chan Ho Sun many times, would he agree as soon as he asked? He said, "Not necessarily, I still have to look at the story. This time seemed rather interesting."

In addition, Tang Wei honestly said that WU XIA's village woman and mother role was the most difficult to play because she has never played it before it was quite a challenge to her. She also said that Gum Sing Mo was very serious. Normally they rarely spoke on the set. She said, "If he and I were talking on the set it would be strange, I would think whether he was in too great a mood today."
