The 51st Golden Horse Award took place in Taipei's Sun Yat Sen Memorial Hall last night, Mainland actor Chen Jianbin with his written, directed and starred film A FOOL won Best Actor and Best New Director. He also won Best Supporting Actor with PARADISE IN SERVICE. He won three out of five nominations, the first actor to win both Best Actor and Best Supporting Actor. Best Actress went to Taiwan actress Chen Shiang Chyi for THE EXIT, as she successfully fended off favorites Gong Li and Vicki Zhao Wei for the glory of Taiwan. Winning six awards including Best Feature Film, BLIND MASSAGE became this year's Golden Horse Award big winner.

As for Hong Kong, Ann Hui On wa with THE GOLDEN ERA won Best Director. THE MIDNIGHT AFTER (NA YEH LING SUN, NGOR JOR SEUNG LIU WONG GOK HOI WONG DAI BO DIK HUNG VAN) and AS THE LIGHT GOES OUT (GAU FOR YING HUNG) won Best Visual Effect and Best Action Choreography. Hui On Wa has already been nominated for the Golden Horse six times and won three times. She said, "I originally want to be someone who makes sacrifices for art, now that I won I don't know what to say. Thank you very much to the bosses who invested in this film." With her first Golden Horse nomination, Gong Li's film COMING HOME only won Best Original Score.

Making Golden Horse Award history, Chen Jian-bin said that yesterday was an extraordinary day. He also thanked his alma mater Central Drama Academy, thanked his teachers for making him turn from a film fan to an actor. He also thanked his son for making him willing to be an even better person. "I love you!" His wife Jiang Qinqin was invited to the stage and gave Chen Jian-bin a kiss. Jiang Qinqin got choked up and said, "Taiwan, I would always remember so many beautiful things that happened here for the rest of my life, thank you Golden Horse for giving my husband this chance. He will be even more determined to complete the film dream." Three time Best Actress nominee, Chen Shiang Chyi with EXIT finally won. She tearfully said that she truly was very happy, and thanked the director and the producer for casting her. She also thanked her family, friends because they were the greatest blessing of her life. She even gave special thanks to Tsai Chin. In the end she said, "After years of honing, this year finally the flower blooms and bares fruit. I love Taiwan film, as a part of Taiwan film I am very happy to win the Golden Horse 51st Best Actress. Praise the Lord and all glory be thine."

Chen Shiang Chyi later admitted that at first she did not want to make EXIT. Later she convinced herself that she would be helping a new director and finally agreed. She even said that the final scene was the most memorable, because she was so into her door ramming scene she injured her neck. Finally it took half a year to recover.

Chen Jian-bin and Regina Wan Qian both with PARADISE IN SERVICE won Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress. Chen Jian-bin twice thanked director Doze Niu. Because he once thought about resigning but Director Niu insisted on him, he was able to play this character. Chen Jian-bin later admitted that he was very nervous because he had several nominations. In PARADISE IN SERVICE he played an old soldier. He felt that the committee's recognition of the character was recognition for old soldiers, which held very important meaning. He continued, "The director a year before the shoot already went to Beijing twice for me, but because at the time I was preparing my own first film I already turned him down. However in the end when the director called me again, I finally decided to take it." Playing a military prostitute, Wan Qian said that she never really thought about winning because she came to participate in a grand event with elders. She said, "For the first time I won such an award, I hope I can make a wish. I wished that in my lifetime I will be able to stand on this stage again to accept Best Actress." She also said that before going to Taiwan she was very calm, she even told friends that she might not win. When she won and went back stage her hands were still trembling. She did not dare to believe that she truly won. Backstage she said, "Originally I was very calm, I never thought about winning. So I was even more surprised. This time I was nominated with co-star Ivy Chen, we never thought about who would win. We only wished each other well."

She also said that she was injured on the first scene of the production and could not return to work for half a month. She changed into a "dragon robe" look for the award show to increase her luck and finally got her wish.

BLIND MASSAGE's blind Best New Performer Zhang Lei after receiving her award received thunderous applause. BLIND MASSAGE also won Best Feature Film. Hong Kong director Hui On Wa after learning that she won Best Director gave a passionate embrace to her lead actress Tang Wei.

Last year Best Actor Ethan Juan left early and caused a storm. This year he dressed up to open the show but host Mickey Huang joked, "Yuen 'Today''s specialty is leaving early." Originally paired with Cheung Hok Yau to present an award, Tang Wei finally did not come to the stage because she was not "feeling well".

Michelle Chen and Tony Yang who shaved his head for a Qing Dynasty drama presented the Best Original Film Score and Song awards. Michelle joked that good music would numb people's scalp. Later in order to numb Tony's scalp, she suddenly kissed his forehead. Tony immediately pumped his fist. Host Mickey Huang told them not to upset Tony's girlfriend Amber Kuo, Michelle helplessly joked that she will have to apologize.
