The Tsui Hark directed DETECTIVE DEE AND THE MYSTERY OF THE PHANTOM FLAME (DIK YUN KIT ji TUNG TIN DAI GOK) became the only Chinese film to compete in this year's Venice Film Festival. The film will hold its global premiere on September 5. The cast including Andy Lau Tak Wa, Li Bingbing and Carina Lau Ka Ling will appear, however Tsui Hark arrived in Venice a day earlier because he had to present the Lifetime Achievement Award to John Woo (Ng Yu Sum).

Tsui Hark in order to arrive a day early even took a propeller plan for the first time from Munich. Once he arrived he was all smiles and even took pictures everywhere. He appeared to be in great spirits. He said because this experience was rather fresh and interesting, he did not feel tired at all. As for presenting the award to Ng Yu Sum, he also felt that it was a little early. It was like honoring him for his current level of performance, but he believed that Woo in the future will make even more good movies and will have a chance to win a second Lifetime
Achievement Award. As for his film being the only Chinese film in competition, he honestly said that award was not the goal. More importantly at the film festival he would be able to see very special movies and also meet many old friends.
