[2013.02.15] 2013 LUNAR NEW YEAR BOX OFFICE DECLINES 6.34% FROM LAST YEAR'S

This year's Lunar New Year film slot has three Hong Kong Lunar New Year films, a foreign films and two animations. they included the Stephen Chow Sing Chi directed JOURNEY TO THE WEST: CONQUERING THE DEMONS (SAI YAU GONG MOR PIN) that everyone has waited 4 years for, as well as the usual Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Raymond Wong Pak Ming style Lunar New Year films and A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD; yet according to the Hong Kong Motion Picture Industry Association, the from the Lunar New Year's Eve to the Lunar third, the four day total box office was HK$44.07 million. In comparison to last year's 47.06 million, the decline was around 6.34% and the performance was not considered ideal.

Among the Lunar New Year films, the Hollywood film A GOOD DAY TO DIE HARD topped the cumulative box office with 18.17 million. As for Chinese films JOURNEY TO THE WEST led with 15.81 million.
