The Behind the Camera Award two nights ago took place in Shanghai. Peter Chan Ho Sun was the jury chair and presented the Behind the Camera Special Contribution Award to Yuen Woo Ping. Lord Eight also won Best Action Choreography with THE GRANDMASTERS (YUT DOI JUNG SI). He said that each film had its own difficulty, working with Wong Kar Wai on THE GRANDMASTRS was even harder because he asked for realism when displaying each style of kung fu like Grand Masters in a duel. Lord Eight joked that he truly deserved the award, and felt that more awards should encourage behind the camera heroes. He revealed that he was planning to personally direct two films, CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON 2 (NGOR FU CHONG LUNG 2) and the Tsui Hark produced FEI YEUK SHOOK SAN (LEAPING ZU MOUNTAIN). He said that with CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON, his had to be different with a different production method. Thus its difficulty would be increased.

As for the film industry kung fu film actor generation gap issue, he said that talent had to be discovered and faces that viewers liked had to be found. Jackie Chan once was a "box office poison" who no one dared to use, but Lord Eight saw his sense of comedy and made him the lead. Donnie Yen Chi Tan at first was a blank slate, he said his kung fu was decent and thus gave him a push. Aside from vision, it also depended on whether the actors were ambitious.
