The 13th Hong Kong Entertainment Expo launch ceremony took place yesterday. Guests included financial secretary Paul Chan Mo Po, Secretary for Commerce and Development Gregory So Kam Leung, Executive Director of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council Magaret Fong Shun Man, the State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television Film's Yang Zheng, Television and Entertainment Advisory Committee chief Terry Lai and Entertainment Expo ambassador Leon Lai Ming. Leon even talked about the creative background of his "tongue twister" promotional film.
At the same time, one of the Entertainment Expo's major events, the 21st Hong Kong International Film and Television Market yesterday opened. As a primary international film and television commerce platform, this year Filmart successfully attracted over 800 companies from 35 nations or regions. Aside from various major Hong Kong film companies many overseas nations or regions set up displays as well. In addition 15 "belt and road" nations, over 330 exhibitors also participated this year to explore international market business opportunities.
Financial secretary Chan Mo Po said that this year's Filmart is the largest in history, providing an ideal platform for exhibitors to network commerce and explore overseas market, connect all of the unique roles and advantages of the Mainland and other markets around the world. Six out of ten of the Mainland's top grossing films were co-productions. Hong Kong truly was a place with the best of the East and the West. He also mentioned that Hong Kong's beautiful scenery could attract overseas films for location shoots and become a lot of them, from which Hong Kong high quality and professional production personnel would be able to provide assistance.
Chan Mo Po even said that the Special Administrative government has promoted wholeheartedly the creative industry. In the past ten years the government allocated HK$ 1.5 billion to support the CreateSmart Initiative and the Film Development Fund to increase the film industry competitiveness. In the future it will continue to assist the industry in expanding the market to the "Belt and Road" nations.
Lai Ming earlier recorded a 30 second "tongue twister" promotional film, which already had over 900,000 views. Yesterday Lai Ming revealed the inspiration behind the "tongue twister" promotional film. At a meeting with a group of Entertainment Expo creative team colleagues, they would like every department's name to be mentioned but they only had 30 seconds. Leon said, "So we had to be fully responsible to promote with this limit!" He also sad that the Entertainment Expo yesterday officially opened and will last six weeks. It will bring a lot of joy and hope everyone would explore it step by step. He also will participate in some of them. Leon thanked the attending friends and left without any interview.
