Zhang Ziyi recently accepted a Mainland magazine interview. She mentioned that her life was not smooth sailing at all. She experienced many rises and falls in life and she came out of the hard times. Zhang Ziyi felt that the so-called depression made her shake off her greenness at the time. Because her film CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON won the Best Foreign Film Oscar, she was able to reach international status. Then she ran into setbacks.
Zhang Ziyi with THE GRANDMASTER (YUT DOI JUNG SI) won 11 Best Actress awards, which she admitted was no easy task. "This film took about 3 years to make. For an actress, 3 years are very valuable time. However I only spent it on my character Gong Er, so I had time to communicate with Gong Er and created the impossible for myself." Zhang Ziyi wanted to challenge more characters. She would not give herself any symbol like a representative film, because every film recorded her condition at the time she would not have a "best period". She deeply believed that her next story would always be the best.
