Alex Fong Chung Shun with the film OVERHEARD 3 (SIT TING FUNG WON 3) received a Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actor nomination. Playing a land baron, his cute wig and unique walled village dialect successfully left a deep impression with the audience. Actually when the team gave Fong Chung Shun a great degree of freedom on his character design. He not only chose his wig and perm but also freely adjusted his tone. Later he even asked a walled village young man to be his tutor so he performed without any baggage.
Speaking of being nominated with his co-star Kenneth Tsang Kong, Fong Chung Shun praised his acting as top notch. "As soon as he comes out he has a stage presence even without acting. His presence is so terrifying that you can sense it. His acting stands out a lot. I admit defeat, how can I compete? From his Cantonese film days to now, how amazing is he!" He admitted that he has not watched Wang Baoqiang, Lam Suet and Ng Man Tat's nominated films, but he was already happy to be nominated.
Fong Chung Shun won the Chinese Film Media Award Best Actor. He joked that he did not mind being downgraded to Best Supporting Actor this time because he was nominated four times. "I really have never won, but I am already pleased with the nomination certificates at home. I hope that I can win once in Hong Kong. (How is your confidence?) Watching the film again I like it, I am satisfied!" As for Best Actor and Best Actress, Fong Chung Shun picked Sean Lau Ching Wan and Tang Wei.
Already 50 something, he admitted that nowadays he would no longer deliberately pursue awards. Instead the pursuit of "milk money" was even more important. He joked that early on he already gave up his sports car purchase interest for his daughter. Now as she gradually grows up, he joked that he could finally "make a comeback". "Work has been very tough the past few years, I don't want to abuse myself and give everything to my daughter. Now is the time to buy something to reward myself. (Will you have another?) At 50 something? There isn't enough time to even have hemorrhoids!"
Mainland actor Wang Baoqiang excelled in playing small characters, in the film KUNG FU JUNGLE (YUT GOR YUN DIK MO LUM) he fought with the "Strongest in the Universe" Donnie Yen Chi Tan to the bitter end and surprised many viewers. Actually Baoqiang has studied martial art since age 6. At age 8 he went to the Shaolin Temple on Mount Song to become a disciple. Having own the Golden Horse Award Best New Actor, he was not only a good actor but also a good fighter. Having been on and off screen for years in the film industry, Lam Suet this time played a minibus driver. Without considering his unique foul language dialogue, his performance still outshone his co-stars' characters; Ng Man Tat returned to solid ground. In the film his relationship with Carrie Ng Ka Lai brought to life the romance of the elderly.
Fong Chung Shun and Tsang Kong both were nominated with OVERHEARD 3. One of the Best Actor nominees Sean Lau Ching Wan gave high praises to Tsang Kong, "Brother Ken's performance is great! In the film, many people perform better than me!" Who knows if the Supporting Actor award will land in the hands of one OVERHEARD representative as Ching Wan has picked?
