The 40th Hong Kong International Film Festival yesterday held a press conference to announce its over 240 film selections from 66 countries and regions. Two opening films will be CHONGQING HOT POT and TRIVISA (SHU DAI JIU FUNG). TRIVISA producers Johnnie To Kei Fung, Yau Nai Hoi, directors Frank Hui Hok Man, Vicky Wong Wai Kit and Jevon Au Man Kit and actors Gordon Lam Ka Tung and Philip Keung Ho Man attended. CHONG director Yang Qing and actor Chen Kun sent a video to share their experience. The closing film be the Kiyoshi Kurosawa directed CREEPY. Louis Koo Tin Lok said that he spent this Lunar New Year in Hong Kong. "Aside from being with the family, I was also responsible for ceremonies like starting the year, thanking the gods and praying. I thought they were rather pleasant and interesting." Goo Jai revealed that he had to follow the tung sing for a good time for these traditions. This year was rather special as the good time was early morning on the Lunar 29th. He had to go to the temple at 9AM on the Lunar New Year's Day. He did not have to sleep at all and he was asked not to bathe. In the end he ignored everything. Did his relatives ask him about getting married? He said that no one ever has, but someone hinted that he would come for lai see at such his age. Yesterday the government budget announced HK$ 20 million allocation for domestic films' Mainland distribution and promotion uses. Goo Jai felt the amount was not important, but how the fund would be used. He hoped that everyone would properly use financial assistance to make daring and innovative domestic productions. Would he direct? He said, "I am very certain that I won't direct. In the last few years many asked me to, but directing is another area. If I have to do it, I would have to drop all jobs including acting and study anew because the director has to use the camera to tell a story. Now as an actor I am very happy and very pleased. Even if I have a chance to direct in the future it will probably be when will be am already very old and retired, when I won't have anything to do. (Have you thought about any subject?) Yes, but I would talk about it with directors and let them make it."
