Jiang Wen worked with two Hong Kong directors Alan Mak Siu Fai, Felix Chong Man Keung for the firs time on their new film THE LOST BLADESMAN (GUAN WON CHEUNG). They already got along famously on their first collaboration. Earlier Jiang Wen came to Hong Kong for two days to attend the film festival events. He suddenly appeared in front of them and surprised them during an interview. Mak Siu Fai said with pleasant surprise, because they were saying something bad about Jiang Wen.
Mak Siu Fai's "something bad" was, "At first when we suggested Jiang Wen for the role of Cao Cao, many Beijing producers heard the name Jiang Wen and reacted. They told us that Jiang Wen was very troublesome, he treated directors very poorly and yelled at countless people. He even hit a director once. A director who worked with him dead halfway. Wow! How terrifying is he. However Chong Man Keung and I wanted to give it a try. Since there were two of us, even if one died we would still have another. We probably wouldn't both die, it's not that terrifying right?" As Mak Siu Fai said "something bad" about Jiang Wen, Big Brother Jiang Wen appeared. The funniest part was Jiang Wen quietly sat next to them like he was listening to someone else's story and smiled from the heart as he listened.
Mak Siu Fai even humorously said, "While working with Jiang Wen, Chong Man Keung and I lived well. Neither one of us died! However Big Brother Jiang had many 'demands' for us. He told us that he was old and everyday he could only work eight hours on the set. During rehearsal the set had to remain silent. In the film every details had to be explained clearly to him so he could understand. However those 'demands' also proved that he was a professional actor. If the rumor is that anyone who works with Jiang Wen dies, then the two of us died being touched with his professionalism."
