[2011.09.23] HEROES OF NANJING MAY REPRESENT CHINA AT THE OSCARS

Zhang Yimou's HEROES OF NANJING was rumored to represent Mainland China in the competition for next year's Oscar Best Foreign Film nomination.  To coordinate with the Oscar rules the film will be screened for a week starting September 24 in Beijing.  The film bureau international exchange office Mr. Liu confirmed, "Basically it is set.  We also reminded the company that the latest week for commercial screening would be September 24."  The company said that they were meeting but have not responded to when and where the screening would be or the Oscar competition.

As of yesterday, Taiwan, Japan, Korea were among 24 nations and regions that confirmed their Oscar film.  The film bureau recently selected Zhang Yimou's new film HEROES OF NANJING to represent the Mainland.  According to Oscar rules, all film must have had at least one week in commercial screening between October 1 2010 and September 30 2011.  On January 24 2012 the Oscar committee will announce the final Best Foreign Film nominees.
