The 32nd Hong Kong Film Award will take place at the Cultural Center Saturday. Nominated for Best Actress with THE SILENT WAR (TING FUNG JEH) and THE GREAT MAGICIAN (DAI MOR SHOOK SI), Zhou Xun will compete with LOVE IN THE BUFF (CHUN GIU YU JI MING)'s Miriam Yeung Chin Wa, ROMANCING IN THIN AIR (GO HOI BUT JI LUEN II)'s Sammi Cheng Sau Man and LOVE LIFTING (GO GUI OI)'s Elanne Kong Yeuk Lam. Originally the favorite with two nominations, Zhou Xun yesterday through her office announced online that due to work she will not be able to attend. In the announcement she even revealed, "I also sincerely hope to give more award winning opportunities to actresses of the younger generation." In terms of acting and experience, she, Cheng Sau Man and Yeung Chin Wa were on par, only the dark horse Kong Yeuk Lam was the youngest. Perhaps Zhou Xun already expected not to win?

Zhou Xun's office yesterday announced, "Sorry due to inability to adjust her work schedule, Zhou Xun will not be able to attend this Hong Kong Film award. She said that the nomination was already the biggest recognition. Thank you Hong Kong Film Award and Hong Kong filmmakers for their support and love for her over the years, she will definitely continue to work hard. She also sincerely hopes to give even more award winning opportunities to actresses of the younger generation. The future is very long and she will firmly take every step. Thank you again to the 32nd Hong Kong Film Award." Zhou Xun's last minute announcement of absence due to work would absolutely not be a surprise, yet "she also sincerely hopes to give even more award winning opportunities to actresses of the younger generation" sounded off. Perhaps she already predicted who would win? Or because she thought she would not win due to her absence and the award would be a competition between the remaining three?

Zhou Xun had two Best Actress nominations, everyone thought that her votes might be divided. Yet because she was a substance Best Actress she was still the favorite. Did Zhou Xun thnk that due to the vote split, her chance would not be high and used work as an excuse for her absence? Actually among the other nominees, Sammi and Chin Wa might not have won the Hong Kong Film Award before but they have worked in the film industry for 10 years. They were not new comers. Did she mean that she picked the dark horse Kong Yeuk Lam to win?
