[2013.04.02] SINGING TEACHER HUI PUI WILL BE BURIED IN CANADA

Famous singing teacher Hui Pui passed away (1924-2013) at the age of 89. Today the funeral took place at the Universal Funeral Parlor and the remains will be transported to Vancouver for burial. Teacher Hui Pui's service began yesterday. She had many students, many of whom were in show business. She had great connection with people and was respected. Adam Cheng Siu Chau, Lee Si Kei, Paula Tsui Siu Fung, Rebecca Pan, Deborah Li, Patrick Tse Ying, Ivy Ling Po, Kam Han, Law Lan, Wan Lau Mei, Chan SUk Fun and Fan Tsui Lai Tai all paid their respect. Connie Chan Bo Chu, Liza Wang Ming Chuen, Law Kar Ying, Damien Lau Chung Yan and Michelle Yim (Mai Shuet) all sent floral arrangements.

Helen Ma helped with the service. She said that Teacher Hui Pui had no religious belief and thus the funeral had no religious ceremony. The funeral took place today, Teacher Hui Pui's daughter will play music to bid her mother farewell. She revealed that Teacher Hui Pui's remains will be transported to Canada and buried with her husband in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Her good friend Lydia Shum Din Ha was also buried there.

Cheng Siu Chau said that before his concert, Teacher Hui Pui assisted him with rehearsal. In recent years they have had little contact. Earlier his daughter Joyce Cheng Yun Yi mentioned to him that Teacher Hui Pui was seriously ill. He really wanted to visit but he had to promote SAVING GENERAL YANG (JUNG LIT YEUNG GA JEUNG) overseas. He regretted that he was not able to see her one last time. Chau Guoon remembered Teacher Hui Pui's help. "she always cared about her students."

Hui Pui was born in Suzhou and immigrated to Hong Kong from Shanghai. She was a behind the scene singer for movies and thus joined show business, beginning her singing teacher career. Over her 32 years of teaching singing, many top singers were her students. In 1983 she retired. On March 18 she succumbed to sickness.
