The Juno Mak directed SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT earlier won 8 awards at the Hong Kong Film Awards courtesy of on.cc
The Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo), Louis Koo Tin Lok, Guo
Yuanyuan and others starred film SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT (FUNG LUM
FOR SHAN) has had plenty to talk about from preparation to release.
Originally scheduled to launch audio-visual products, the plans were
suddenly suspended the day before yesterday and caused heated
discussion online. Director Juno Mak Chun Lung was rumored to have
intentions to release the extended version of the film, hoping to
release the film again at the cinemas or streaming platforms.
The HK$ 400 million production SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT from
preparation to release took 8 years, and was once named the Hong Kong
film industry "urban legend". The film was finally released last year.
Although the reviews were mixed, in the end at the "44th Hong Kong Film
Awards" the film won 8 awards to become the big winner.
The film was originally scheduled to launch audio-visual
products and premiere on the paid TV platform this year, but the day
before yesterday, Universe Digital that was responsible for SONS'
distribution announced that all film related distribution work would
be stopped. The content was as follows, "This company and the SONS OF
THE NEON NIGHT copyright company have agreed to cancel the film
distribution agreement, and hereby notify all stores and related
companies the cancellation of the distribution of the film."
Regarding the sudden stop of distribution, the Universe
chairman Daneil Lam Siu Ming replied, "The film owners say no release,
you may be better off asking them. (Would the contract require
compensation?) Let it be, they only stopped the release due to
problems." When asked for the details, Lam Siu Ming did not respond.
As for one of the producers of SONS, Catherine Hun Ka Chun stated that
she only found about about the sudden suspension of the release
recently. Because she was not in Hong Kong she would need to get an
understanding first before responding.
Online discussions about the sudden suspension of the film's
distribution have been endless. Some said that most likely director
Mak Chun Lung wanted to release the extended version once again
released at the theaters or on the streaming platform. Actually when
Mak Chun Lung was interviewed backstage at the Hong Kong Film Awards,
he has already mentioned the possibility of shooting a spin-off or
anthology for SONS. He even said that he has already seen the around
5 and a half hour long extended version of the film, and did not rule out
the opportunity to release it at the theaters or streaming platforms.
Jennifer Yu is not afraid of being embarrassed, even praising the staff for creating a realistic experience courtesy of on.cc
Best Actresses Jennifer Yu Heung Ying and Anita Yuen
Wing Yee for their first time collaboration were already trying to be
"more ruthless" than the other. Recently in Chai Wan they shot a
major scene in which they were arrested for murder. They were publicly
masked and handcuffed. Passers-by thought that a major case occurred,
stopped and looked on from the sidelines.
Yu Heung Ying and Yuen Wing Yee (Len Len) teamed up to make a
new film "YUK MONG GEI SUN" (DESIRE PARASITE) as fans looked forward to
the two film queens sharing the screen. Reportedly this time the two
would work together for evil; because of a moment of greed, they as
bank workers cheated HK$ 1.5 million cash out of Ti Lung, a old man who
was living alone. After profiteering they rose to fame, but their
former colleague Day Hui Yat caught a glimpse of their secret. The two
decided to join hands to stop her but could not escape the long arm of
the law!
A few days ago, the team gathered at Chai Wan to shoot the two
Best Actresses being arrested by Ali Lee Kai Sum and others. Yu Heung
Ying and Len Len both appeared in white shirts and jeans, and were
handcuffed and masked in accordance with the plot. Because the two
were similar in shape, they were difficult to distinguish from just a
glimpse. The film company also hired a large number of extras to play
reporters and law enforcement officers, and the realism one made the
nearby neighborhood once thought that there was a major case as they
looked on and discussed. Although the day of the shoot was hot and
their appearance were covered, Yu Heung Ying and Len Len were invested
in their performance and were quite professional.
Speaking of this major scene, Yu Heung Ying replied, "There is
no embarrassment. The team rented a storefront that used to be a bank,
it was so realistic that it became real." Rarely playing the villain,
her character went on the road of no return due to the economic
pressure of her family. Aside from challenging her acting skills, she
was the most surprised by the opportunity to act opposite Len Len. The
two already got along famously at the table read. As for the 79-year-
old Ti Lung, he played "down on his luck" with a towel around his neck
and was very serious in a few simple shots. From time to time he would
discuss the details with the staff, causing up hot talk from movie
fans.
Miu Kam Fung passed away at age 80 at the Tseung Kwan O Hospital yesterday courtesy of mingpao.com
Veteran actress Miu Kam Fung passed away yesterday afternoon at
the Tseung Kwan O Hospital. She was 80. Tin Kai-man announced the
tragic news on behalf of Miu Kam Fung's son, but did not disclose any
details. Reportedly she passed away due to illness. Miu Kam Fung
entered the industry at 17, and in her early career she acted under her
real name Lam Wai Shan. Her first Cantonese film, REVENGE OF THE TWIN
PHOENIXES (SEUNG FUNG SAU) made her an overnight sensation. She later
changed her stage name to 'Miu Kam Fung.' She mostly played pitiful
young women, with notable works including the film THE STORY BETWEEN
HONG KONG AND MACAU (YUT SHUI GAT TIN NGAI) co-starring Cheung Ying and
TEARS OF PEARL (JUN JU LUI) starring Ng Cho Fan. She changed her image
in the comedy film MEN AND WOMEN (NAM NAM NUI NUI) with a funny
appearance, earning rave reviews and winning hearts. In the mid-1970s
she transitioned to television, performing on TVB, RTV, CTV, and ATV,
starring in numerous dramas including WONDER BAR (FAI WOOT GUK), LIGHTS
OF MILLION HOPES (MAN GA DUN OR), HEAVEN'S RETRIBUTION (WAN HONG GUM
JIU), THE BURNING RAIN (BO YU YIN SIU), CONSCIENCE (DAI SAM LUI FAT
TING), and BURNING FLAME (LIT FOR HUNG SUM). She played the
'Vietnamese Lady' in TVB's sitcom A KINDRED SPIRIT (JUN CHING), played
Waise Lee Chi Hung's mama in BURNING FLAME, and the dominant mother in
CONSCIENCE, earning widespread recognition for her acting skills. Miu
Kam Fung's last drama appearance was in the 2014 TVB drama NEVER DANCE
ALONE (NUI YUN KUI LOK BO), playing the mother of Lawrence Cheng Tan
Shui, co-starring with Carman Lee Yuek Tung, Loletta Lee Lai Chun, and
Flora Chan Wai Shan. Miu Kam Fng participated in the stage play
'TONNOCHY' in 2014 and 2015, then gradually withdrew from the
spotlight to enjoy her retirement and rarely appeared in public.
Miu Kam Fung married Lau Fong, the owner of a film company who
was 20 years her senior, at age 20. They had two sons but later
divorced due to personality differences. The two maintained a good
relationship. Miu Kam Fng praised Lau Fong for cherishing her and
being a good husband with a fatherly affection, saying they were
friends even when they met again. In 1986 Miu Kam Fung remarried a
Australian Chinese doctor and immigrated to Sydney with her husband.
However she found the area too dull and did not get along well with her
husband. The marriage lasted only two years before ending in divorce.

Television Best Actor Owen Cheung Chun Long and his girlfriend
Renci Yeung Sze Wing have always been close. The night before Sze
Wing's new film held the premiere, and he deliberately showed his
support with Kalok Chow. At the same show, MIRROR member Edan Lui
Cheuk On had his eyes on Peter Chan Charm Man for his revealing scene.
He raved, "The pummelo is great!"
Yeung Sze Wing, Ling Man Lung and Chan Charm Man starred
in the film UNIDENTIFIED MURDER (UFO LEI KEI MING ONG) held the
premiere the night before, MIRROR member Edan Lui Cheuk On, COLLAR
member Marf Yau and her boyfriend Locker Lam Ka Hei, Yumi Chung Yau
Mei, etc. Sze Wing's boyfriend Cheung Chun Long also paired with
friend Kalok Chow to show his support, but in order to avoid the
limelight they made a low-key entry without any media photo.
Edan was very surprised after the screening, "I have worked on
a lot of movies, this may be my favorite Hong Kong film. I am not
picky about anything, I laugh myself silly, Charm Man's pomelo is
great!" With a revealing scene in the film, Chan Charm Man said that
he already knew about the scene when he took the role and joked that it
was included in his salary. Did he clear the set for the shoot? He
said, "At that time I let a lot of people watch, and they encouraged
me. During the shoot it was cold, but I felt extremely warm."
Sze Wing also revealed the funny situation during the shoot, "A
lot of people who were off work wanted to cheer for him and gathered in
front of the Mon(itor). Ling Man Lung was afraid that the director
didn't shoot well, and asked Charm Man for another take." She also
proposed that the film to arrange for special screenings from its
release to the Mid-Autumn Festival just for the holiday's tradition of
"moon gazing".

Stephen Chow posts a video to announce the July release of SHAOLIN WOMEN'S SOCCER

Film star Stephen Chow Sing Chi yesterday turned 64 and took
the opportunity to announce that his new film SHAOLIN WOMEN'S SOCCER
(GONG FU NUI JOOK) would be released next month to take advantage of
the World Cup boom. Currently busy with the post production, he was
asked how he would respond if the film failed to meet the release
schedule. He replied, "One day I will be able to catch up."
The Chow Sing Chi directed the film GONG FU NUI JOOK earlier
was said to be scheduled for a summer vacation release. Yesterday he
took advantage of his 64th birthday and announced that the film will
be released next month. With his back to the camera, he personally
answered when asked about the release date of the film. "I am working
hard to make July 10th." Then he added that if he could not make it,
it would be an one-week delay, "Then July 17th." When asked again if
he still failed to catch up how would he deal with the release, Chow
Sing Chi replied, "One day I will be able to catch up!" He also
shared a hand-drawn "concept poster", as some online joked that the
film had a "flexible scheduling".
GONG tells the story of the women's soccer "Emei team"
championship run against the tide, which could be described as taking
full advantage of the World Cup boom. The lineup was also of great
concern. In addition to Zhang Xiaofei, Dilraba and Zhang Yixing,
Korean actor Song Kang-ho would be a guest referee. Former national
team athletes Zhao Lina and Li Jiayue were also invited to participate
in the performance. In addition, for the 11th consecutive year, "Sing
Girl" Jelly Lin Yun sent birthday wishes for Chow Sing Chi, writing,
"Happy birthday to my coolest and most handsome Sing Yeh." Cecilia
Cheung Pak Chi and Sisley Choi Si Bui also wished him Happy Birthday.

The film DOG DAY EVENING (YUT GOR BO MOON DIK DAN SUN) is in
release now. The film on the surface is an absurd "service
termination" dispute that triggered a hostage crisis, behind which the
little people's helplessness and toughness in surviving between the
gaps of the system were brought out. Rachel Leung Yung Ting cut her
hair short in the film and transformed into an explosive female police
officer in full contrast; the Hong Kong Film Awards Best Actress Fish
Liew Chi Yu dressed as a mascot and turned into a "keyboard warrior" to
vent her emotions.
Leung Yung Ting played the female police officer who rescued
hostages in the film. The character had a strange personality. Ill
tempered and grumpy, she always adhered to his belief. She smiled and
said that she has been a vegetarian for 12 years. Her temperament was
always gentle, so interpreting the explosive side was difficult. She
thanked her co-stars. Playing police officers, Kumer So Sun Yu
(Grizzly) and Edward Chui Woai Dong were both six feet and gave a
contrast with the petite her, perfectly supporting her character's
presence.
Fish played the TV station part tine worker "Lucky", who gave
away leaflets and dressed as mascots normally. A few steps slower than
others, she unexpectedly became one of the hostages. She admitted that
the character was quite similar to her, "I like to hide behind the
characters through acting, exploring human nature or using characters
to release different aspects of the heart." She said that "Lucky" hid
in the mascot costume and would make a variety of "lewd" action.
Normally she would be very timid, but on the Internet she was a radical
"keyboard warrior". She had a lot of anger in the heart want to vent,
in the film her blue hair was her own disguise to protect herself.
Did she have a lot of rage inside? Fish admitted, "I do!
When something isn't expected or feels undeserved, I would really want
to talk about it; however I would be dumb at the mouth and would
stutter like Lucky. I didn't know how to release the rage, feeling
that my temper would turn bad. Now I would transfer my energy, like
stomping my feet and exercising." Would she release it on her
boyfriend? She smiled and said, "Haha, like what! In short I would
release the energy and would not immediately lose my temper."
Regarding the blue hair look in the film, Fish revealed that
due to excessive bleaching, the hair of the back of her head fell out
and would not grow back. She once needed a wig to cover it. She
joked that Leung Yung Ting was even more extreme, almost "completely
shaved". Leung Yung Ting said with a smile, "I think it's great, this
time is the shortest since I was three years old. The short hair style
makes the character more vivid, but it only lasted half a year as I
had to grow my hair long again for work."
As for dressing up as a mascot for the shoot, Fish pointed out
that in the first three groups of scenes she had to dress up as the
mascot and did not need makeup. Although the shoot took place between
autumn and winter, the studio set was very stuffy and dusty. When I
ran I kept sweating, fortunately I was thin enough to take it. In
addition I didn't need to line up for make up, once on the set I could
just put on the mascot's head and start work. It was relatively
convenient.
Have they ever had the experience of unable to end a contract?
Leung Yung Ting shared that she has joined the fitness center
membership, and found hidden details after paying by credit card. To
cancel, she needed three months advanced notification. "I still had
to pay the remaining three months. Losing three months of membership
fee was quite a sting." She lamented that electronic payment methods
often have hidden many consumer traps. Liew Chi Yu admitted that she
was afraid of trouble and has never changed her phone number since she
started in the business.
Fish said that after watching the movie that Leung Yung Ting's
comedic genes surprised her, praising her performance as wild with a
full contrast. Leung Yung Ting humbly said that the role
was attributed to the director and the writer's good writing, and asked
negotiation experts for advice in advance in order to play the female
police officer well. "The purpose of the negotiation is to arrest
someone but not to them feel that they are suspects. I have to keep
assisting him, and only take action at the right moment." She said
frankly, "Our generation of actors have rarely had the opportunity to
play the police film, so during the performance we have to be extra
careful and strive to show the police's 'presence'. We have to be
convincing even when holding a gun."
Playing a customer service employee, Michael Ning (Bak Ji)
found the dialogues to be a challenge. "I have taken customer
service calls, when I hear the robotic reading of the contract
terms I thought was it quite a bother. This time I am play this type
of character, I discover the difficulty of imitating the dialogue
delivery speed and learn to respect this profession."
Bak Ji said that he has long heard about junior colleague Mak
Pui Tung's performance from his buddy Alan Yeung Wai Lun and was very
happy to have scenes with him in the film. "This time with Mak Pui
Tung I could only lay defense. He scored points in both acting and
comedy. In the film he and I are both hostages, while being held
captive he had an accident from an upset stomach on the spot. With the
art director's very realistic props he was able to perform seriously
and express the helpless. Even I feel bad for him! This scene feel is
hard to grasp, if I play his role I wouldn't know how to handle it."
Bak Ji said that dark comedy was difficult to play to begin
with, in addition this movie had more group scenes. He could not only
worry about his own creation and had to coordinate with the cast and
the crew. He thanked the director for being willing to invest in
resources, arranging for the entire team to rehearse for two days on
the set.

Anita Yuen Wing Yee, Jennifer Yu Heung Ying, Ali Lee Kai Yan,
Siuyea Lo Chun Yip, Ti Lung, Michelle Yim (Mai Suet), Carman Kwan Ka
Man, etc., attended the production start worship ceremony of the new
film YUK MONG GEI SUN (DESIRE PARASITE). Two generations of Hong Kong
Film Awards Best Actresses Len Len and Yu Heung Ying shared the screen
for the first time. Playing close friends in the film, they also
became familiar off screen rapidly as they mutually admired each other;
Len Len even revealed that she personally chose Yu Heung Ying to
co-star with.
Len Len after 7 years worked on another Hong Kong film
production film. She admitted that the sincerity of director Terry Ng
Ka Wai impressed her. In the early years she has heard the director
share the story and encouraged the director to write a script. The
director also let her choose the co-stars, full of sincerity.
Yu Heung Ying caught Len Len's eyes from the list of candidates
and felt that she was highly identifiable and fit the role. She joked
that the director perhaps has already had her in mind and only politely
consulted her. Yu Heung Ying was touched when she heard about it. "I
only find out about this now." Yu Heung Ying admitted that she has
never played material about two women before, and cherished the
opportunity very much. She was the happiest that she could look at Len
Len for two days at work. "She is really beautiful, a goddess, a nice
and friendly person." Len Len also praised Yu Heung Ying was focused
and easy to get along with. Although this was the first time they
collaborated, the director arranged for them to meet and have a table
read of the script. She also did some research on Yu Heung Ying and
watched her performance, so they quickly became familiar so they did
not need a lot of time to mesh before they were able to easily get
into characters.
Was Yu Heung Ying under pressure in the face of the elder Best
Actress? Len Len smiled, "I think she didn't, because she had full
mastery of acting." Yu Heung Ying admitted that she had pressure at
the beginning, even having to consider what to call her again and
again. Finally she decided to return to call her "Len Len". In
addition both were mothers, so they often share the parenting
experience. They quickly became familiar.
Len Len said that her 19-year-old son Morton Cheung Mo Tung has
returned to Hong Kong for summer vacation and become more independent.
She would not have to be too concerned, and did not want his son to
enter the profession. She thought that his personality was shy, but
also suggested that Yu Heung Ying to take advantage of the best time to
play with her children now. Busy with work, would Len Len not have
time to spend time with her son? She joked that at this stage as long
as her son came home to sleep, being able to see each other was already
very good. She would not have too much restrictions. Regarding
Father's Day, Len Len pointed out that her family did not have a strong
sense of ritual. On Father's Day and Mother's Day they usually
celebrated with family dinners. The relationship between her husband
Julian Cheung Chi Lam and their son was like two brothers, they could
eat together and chat for several hours. She joked that she would not
be jealous, instead she would be able to learn more about her son's
updates from her husband's mouth.
On Father's Day, Yu Heung Ying's daughter received 90 points
and won the prize at a piano competition, and the whole family was very
proud and happy. Speaking of the 20 some year old Lillian Sze Ho Ying
who passed away due to ovarian cancer, Yu Heung Ying who has worked
with her on several films could not hide her sorrow, get choked up and
said, "Thank you for attending so many audience appreciation
screenings with me, I wish she would be without illness or pain in
another place."
Television Best Actress Lee Kai Sum has had endless film offers
after leaving her nest. Ali revealed that she would play a female cop
in the film, the character would be neurotic and a little strange.
She enjoyed acting opposite two Best Actress Yuen Wing Yee and Yu Heung
Ying on the first day of work, stating that she benefited a lot from
their performance. Has she discussed acting with the two off camera?
She said that because the film had fewer actors, they also had less
free time together. Mostly they talked about trivial things so she
has not have the chance to get too deep into discussion with them.
"From acting with them of course I am under pressure, but once at the
mark I would naturally get into the character. I can interrogate them,
and watch them cry in a few seconds. Yuen Wing Yee is forced to show
her pitiful look."
Speaking of rumors that she has accepted many film offers. Ali
clarified that all the related collaborations were still in the
negotiation stage. "Film ultimately takes time and have a lot of
variables. In other words it's always changing back and forth,
sometimes you think it may be a lock but it may not necessarily be."
Speaking of her ViuTV adaption of the classic Japanese drama LONG
VACATION, she revealed that she has received the drama's working
scripts and estimated the official production would start in September.

in Michelle Yeoh (Yeung Chi King) and Tang Wei, but the former was
unable to participate due to scheduling conflicts and Tang Wei was
unable to due to pregnancy. Lam Ka Yan appreciated the creative team
and decided to fully cooperate with the production.
THE LAST DANCE starred Wong Tze Wah, Hui Koon Man, Michelle Wai
Sze Nga, Tommy Chu Pak Hong. It not only set box office records but
also earned Wai Sze Nga her first Best Actress award at the Hong Kong
Film Awards; Chu Pak Hong won Best Supporting Actor, and Chan Mou Yin
won Best Screenplay in impressive showings. Chan Mou Yin has
repeatedly expressed hope for THE LAST DANCE team to collaborate again.
Recently he has ben said to have secretly started filming a new film
for some time. In addition to the original team from THE LAST TIME
that included Wong Tze Wah, Hui Koon Man, Wai Sze Nga and other actors,
the investors hoped to further strengthen the cast. Aside from
inviting an all star guest star line up, the investors also would like
an internationally renowned Best Actress for the lead. The production
team initially invited Oscar-winning actress Yeung Chi King to star,
but after multiple negotiations the collaboration was ultimately
canceled due to scheduling conflicts. Later the production team turned
to invite Tang Wei, and negotiations were lively. However Tang Wei
later announced she was pregnant with her second child and had to stop
work, causing another change in the female lead.
Since the filming schedule and set arrangements could no longer
be delayed, the team ultimately decided to have Golden Horse Best
Actress Lam Ka Yan fill the role. Lam Ka Yan won the Golden Horse Best
Actress award in 2015 for ZINNIA FLOWER. She has a good
relationship with lead actor Wong Tze Wah, so a solid foundation of
chemistry has long been established. Sources said that Lam Ka Yan
greatly admired the creative team behind THE LAST DANCE and quickly
adjusted her work schedule after being invited and fully cooperated
with the production. Reportedly the team has been secretly working on
the film for some time, with the production being wrapped up by the end
of July at the earliest. The subject matter and story of director Chan
Mou Yin's new film were still highly confidential, which has already
made fans very eager to see if it would be able to achieve new box
office success.
In addition Chan Mou Yin' script FOOD IS HEAVEN (YIN SIK GEI)
was selected as one of the funded film projects for the government's
'Film Production Grant Scheme For Promoting Chinese Culture,' receiving
up to HK$ 10 million in production fees. In an interview Chan Mou Yin
stated that FOOD IS HEAVEN was adapted from the novel of the same name
by contemporary writer Ge Liang, which has won numerous awards in the
literary world. The story revolved around two generations, chronicling
the legendary lives of Cantonese cuisine masters and their apprentices.
He has read the novel before and knew that several Hong Kong directors
have read it and hoped to adapt it into a film; Chan Mou Yin and Ge
Liang's connection began with THE LAST DANCE. He said that Ge Liang
was very demanding, having worked with several directors but felt none
was a good fit until after watching THE LAST DANCE. He gave him the
book out of appreciation that he has preserved a lot of traditional
Chinese culture in the film. Ge Liang always wanted to find a director
he could connect with and turn the story into a film; coincidentally
the government launched the 'Film Production Grant Scheme For Promoting
Chinese Culture,' Chan Mou Yin obtained the rights from Ge Liang and
submitted the script application.
At the time Chan Mou Yin said that with such a good script, of
course he wanted the best cast. He remembered how pleasant working
with the cast of THE LAST DANCE and really wanted everyone to reunite.
He showed FOOD IS HEAVEN and several other scripts to Hui Koon Man and
Wong Tze Wah, letting them choose whichever suited them before making a
decision.

The film DOG DAY EVENING (YUT GOR BO MOON DIK DAN SUN) held its
premiere last night. Producers Alvin Lam Siu Keung, actor Fish Liew
Chi Yu, Mak Pui Tung, Rachel Leung Yung Ting, Yukki Tai Yuk Kei, Yoyo
Tse Wing Yan, Ng Wing Sze, Tang Yueping and Edward Chui Woei Dong
attended.
Fish and Leung Yung Ting specifically matched each other in red
and white, which originally was in line with the TV station mascot
"Happy Jai" in the film. Fish also had to dress up as this mascot, she
has tried to dress up as a bear mascot to the Christmas party. She
could dance, hit people and be reckless without care. She also smiled
and said that although working on the movie in the costume was very
stuffy, she did not need make up so she did not need to remove any
after work. Leung Yung Ting in the film had to cut her hair short to
play a female cop. When she cut her hair she did not have any mental
hold up. Instead after the cut she felt very refreshing, and saved
several months in shampoo money. However she found that as she began
to get older, white hair could easily show up in short hair.
Fish and Leung Yung Ting also watched the screening. Fish
pointed out a lot of laughs were on Leung Yung Ting and thought why she
was able to be so funny and play the role so cutely. The two also
expected a good result in the film. Fish smiled and said, "Of course I
wish for the higher box office the better, I have been lucky lately and
actually when I look at the script I already thought it was good. This
movie would deserve to have good box office." Speaking of despite the
underperforming recent film market, a few consecutive films relied on
word of mouth to become more and more popular. Their box office
collected more than HK$ 10 million. Leung Yung Ting said that the
current audience is more patient and would first understand the
audience's reaction before deciding to go to the film. She believed
that DOG could also achieve that as it would be worthy of everyone's
expectation. If the film would perform well, how would the two thank
the audience? They both joked that would depend on which box office
would be satisfactory in the boss's mind, then they would dress up as
"Happy Jai" to thank the audience.
Mak Pui Tung said that this time would mainly feature group
sense. Before the shoot the director specifically arranged for them
to have three table reads. During the shoot he learned a lot from the
elder Angelina Lo Yuen Yen and felt that she was truly experienced.
Another elder Nina Paw Hee Ching shared with him a lot of joy from her
past film sets; but this time he was sorry that he did not have the
opportunity to play opposite Gardner Tse Kwan Ho.
Baby Po Pui Yu earlier revealed that over a decade ago while
working on a slap scene for SOMEWHERE BEYOND THE MIST (LAM TIN BAK
WAN), her face was bruised from Leung Yung Ting's slaps and led to
controversy online. Criticized, Leung Yung Ting said that perhaps they
lacked communication. She did not know about her co-star's facial
operation and her hard hit led to capillary ruptures.
Two nights ago they were both present. Po Pui Yu said that
she only mentioned this when a friend asked she has been injured on the
set before. She never expected such a tremendous response and praised
Leung Yung Ting as a very professional actor. "I ask her to hit me for
real in hopes of acing it. Maybe at the time I overestimated myself.
Everyone please don't misunderstand me." Her face was red and swollen
after the injury. She said to herself with some regret afterward, "I
won't let people hit my face anymore. Now my bones are brittle and
would crack with the slightest touch!"
Po Pui Yu said that she and Leung Yung Ting have worked
together many times afterward, often playing mother and daughter and
developing a close relationship. She felt that they had quite a
connection, and off screen she would call her "daughter". She looked
forward to working together again. Leung Yung Ting said that she and
Po Pui Yu were used to play mother and daughter, and often joked about
trying a time travel story so she could play the mother instead.

In June bad news followed one after another in show
business, as drama master Chung King Fai and cancer fighter Natalie
Ng Man Ya passed away on June 3rd and 9th respectively. Yesterday
Dick Liu Kai Chi's widow Chan Man Yee passed away from illness at age
65, within 10 days 3 artists have departed. Chan Man Yee's two
children Liu Man Jik and Liu Man Shun announced the news of their
mother's passing on social platforms. They said that their mother
passed away peacefully with her family by her side. The funeral would
take place in private, low key manner in accordance to their mother's
wishes.
Chan Man Yee's last public appearance was sharing her workshop
activities on social platforms in March this year. Her online
channel has not been updated since January 22nd. Yesterday Liu Man Jik
and Liu Man Shun announced the news of their mother's passing on social
platform. "Our beloved mother Ms. Chan Man Yee on the morning of June
12nd, 2026 passed away peacefully due to illness at the Princes of
Wales hospital with her family by her side and returned to the embrace
of Heaven. We sincerely thank the medical personnel for the attentive
care they have provided Mother. Although the family would miss her,
they deeply knew that their mother was already resting in peace in
Heaven. We thank friends everywhere for their thoughts and concern
for mother Man Yee. According to Man Yee's wishes, the funeral
would take place in a low profile private format with only family and
friends. It would not be open to the public. We are sorry for any
inconvenience."
Friends in the business Louie Castro (Ga Si Lok), Eyvonne Lam
Yi Kei, Mak King Ting were all saddened over Chan Man Yee's passing.
Ga Si Lok and Chan Man Yee have known each other for half a century,
back then they were pillars of the TVB program ENJOY YOURSELF TONIGHT.
He posted a photo with Chan Man Yee on social platforms and wrote, "I
heard the news of close friend Chan Man Yee's passing, and it felt like
someone stabbed my heart. She was a very kind person. May she enjoy
peace and joy forever in Heaven with her husband and son." Mak King
Ting commented, "In the past we all have experienced physical and
emotional pain and suffering, we talked, encouraged and comforted each
other; we ran together, learned different types of training and
treatments, and got over many difficult times! Today you finally left.
My friendship with you may not continue, but your presence would
always remain in my heart. May you find joy and leave pain before,
have a safe journey! I will always miss you!" Lam Yi Kei felt
heartbroken over her good friend's passing, saying Chan Man Yee was
very strong and loving. She was someone who was willing to give to
friends.
Chan Man Yee's health has been less than well in recent years.
On her 65th birthday in October 17th last year she launched her online
channel. In her first video she revealed that she had chronic illness.
In the past few years her health has become less and less ideal,
witnessing many friends and family's passing she experienced nothing
would last forever in life. She promoted life and death education and
knew the importance of a proper farewell. Thus two years ago she held
a "living farewell" event and bid farewell to those she cherished.
Aside from family, good friends in the business like Bowie Wu Fung,
Helena Law Lan, Michael Miu Kiu Wai, Jaime Chik Mei Chun, Annie Liu On
Lai and others also attended. She even revealed that in June last
year her health suffered a severe condition and required a major
emergency operation in July. At the time she peacefully accepted it.
In the end she did not die but her health deteriorated. She was much
thinner, but it made her understand that it was an opportunity Heaven
has given me.
Chan Man Yee was enrolled in the "1st TVB television artist
continuing education class", the only TVB night school training class.
She finally graduated with other 8th TVB artist training class students.
Chan Man Yee received strong support from TVB from 1980 and became one
of its top actresses. From 1979 to 1992 she has made around 40 series,
most were the lead actress role. Her claim to fame
was THE EMISSARY (LIP YING) with Andy Lau Tak Wah. She also starred in
GENERAL FATHER GENERAL SON, THE FOUNDLING'S PROGRESS, THE LEGEND OF THE
BOOK AND THE SWORD, TWILIGHT OF A NATION, etc. Chan Man Yee's
positive image put her in roles like teacher, lawyer and social
workers multiple times. She hosted JADE SPORTS WORLD, TVB ANNIERSARY,
ENJOY YOURSELF TONIGHT and other programs. From late 1980s to early
1990s, Chan Man Yee was the official Cantonese voice actor for Carol
Cheng Yui Ling in many movies. In mid 1993, Chan Man Yee eased out of
show business, occasionally appeared in Christian media and shared
her views on life, life education and life and death education.
Chan Man Yee found success in both her career and love. She
and Liu Kai Chi met as TVB artist training class classmates. Although
Chan Man Yee had strong support and pulled away from Liu Kai Chi's
career, their relationship was not hindered. They wed in 1987 and had
3 children. After the oldest Liu Man Jik was born, Chan Man Yee
decided to focus on family and left on screen performance; later her
youngest Liu Man Lok was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2003, fought
for 3 years and passed away in 2006. Back then Liu Kai Chi and Chan
Man Yee held a ceremony for their youngest son, sharing Lok Lok's joy
and pain on the stage, leaving the darkness of losing a son and
welcoming the future with smiles.
Liu Kai Chi and Chan Man Yee were the model couple in the
business. Liu Kai Chi in 2021 due to stomach cancer passed away as
Chan Man Yee lost her companion of decades. Last year on their 38th
wedding anniversary on November 11th, Chan Man Yee posted her wedding
photo with Liu Kai Chi on social platforms.
