The always friendly Simon Yam greets the onlookers

Just turned 66, Best Actor Simon Yam Tat Wa earlier suffered frostbite on his hands while working on a movie in the Mainland. So far they have not healed. Lately he even toughed out a fight scene at work, living up to his tough guy name.

Despite the pandemic Yam Tat Wa still had countless film offers. Recently he turned into "Yam Three Units", working on films ONCE UPON A TIME IN HONG KONG (GUM SAU JI), BIN YUEN HUNG JEH (EDGE WALKER) and A MURDER ERASED (BEI SIU SUK DIK HUNG ONG). Earlier he was found at the Heaven Queen temple in Tai Hang, working with Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai), Patrick Tam Yiu Man and Jerry Lamb Hiu Fung on BIN. While on break everyone sat outside the temple and chatted. Ah Tam even treated everyone to throat lozenge and made everyone very happy.

Yam Tat Wa greeted fans, who were waiting outside. He unknowingly opened his hands, which were full of scars. The back of his hands were peeling and wrinkled. He explained. "Earlier while working on another movie in Shandong and Taian, the temperature difference on the mountain was too great. When I came back and realized my hands were frostbitten. I saw a doctor and the condition has already improved. I hope it would recover soon. Thank you everyone for your concern." He admitted that now he makes movies for fun. Even if it would be even harder, as long as the script is attractive enough he would still gladly perform and never retire.

As for Ah Tam he revealed that he had more scene with Siu Chai and Yam Tat Wa. "This time the stunt scenes are numerous and difficult. Two days after work began everyone was already very tired, and someone was hurt. However the team has been very attentive, arranging for a physical therapist to be on the set. If we feel the need, we would get in line for treatment. Everyone joked that it was like taking a number to see the doctor."

Reportedly, in one major action scene, over 60 extras fought outside an ancestral shrine. For an even more ideal result, this time no expense was spared on the return of "multiple camera shoot". The production has been rather serious.

Today is the anniversary of "Gor Gor" Leslie Cheung Kwok Wing's passing. Lawrence Cheng Tan Shui and producer Siu Chiu Shun organized an online concert IN LOVING MEMORY OF LESLIE CHEUNG and invited Sam Hui Koon Kit, Hacken Lee Hak Kun, Julian Cheung Chi Lam, Karen Mok Man Wai to perform Gor Gor's clssic songs and spread positive energy. All proceeds and donations would be donated to Food Angel. Gor Gor's beloved Daffy Tong Hok Tang named the concert. During the rehearsal, Tong Tong visited; Siu Chiu Shun also posted to remember Gor Gor on the eve of the concert.

In addition, Mok Man Wai on the program TEL ME WINE said that she was Gor Gor's "first fan in the world". Before Gor Gor won the contest she already liked him. She thought Gor Gor was very handsome when he participated in a singing contest on RTV. At the time Gor Gor came in second. She even pounded her chest in rage for Gor Gor. She never would have dreamed that as an adult she would have the chance to play a couple with Gor Gor in the film VIVA LA EROTICA (SIK CHING NAM NUI).

Grace Field House is a paradisiacal orphanage filled with happiness. The orphans who live there with their “Mother”, the caretaker, Isabella, all look forward to the day they grow old enough to be adopted. Emma, Ray and Norman also believe they could lead an even happier life once they get to live in the outside world...only until "that day".

After Emma and Norman see Conny off, who smilingly leaves the orphanage to be adopted, they find the doll Conny always kept in her arms left at the dining area of the house. To take the doll back to Conny, the two head to the "gate" which Isabella strictly has taught the children to stay away from, where they find Conny dead and ready to be shipped out as "food".

The orphanage which the children thought to be was idyllic, was actually a "farm" to grow edible children to be offered to demons. Furthermore, the "Mother" they had all loved like their actual mother was actually a "cultivator" whose role was to raise the children to be premium feed.

Finding out that everything was all but a fantasy, Emma, Ray and Norman begin their reckless attempt to break out of Grace Field House along with their other siblings.

The Anselm Chan Mou Yin directed, Tin Kai Man produced film READY OR KNOT (BUT YUT SING FUN) two nights ago held its premiere. Boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing with actors Michelle Wai Sze Nga, Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Susan Shaw Yam Yam, Chu Pak Hong, Hedwig Tam Sin Yin and Renci Yeung Si Wing attended. Tsang Lok Tung and Deep Ng Ho Hong also showed their support. Wai Sze Nga brought her 5 year old niece Wai Sing Yin.

Wai Sze Nga revealed that her niece actually had a part in the film and even said that her niece was Chan Ka Lok's fans. Thus she "tempted" her with being able to act with Ka Lok. Sze Nga even asked her niece who was Ka Lok? Sing Yin said right away, "Husband!" Ka Lok also returned the favor and asked her "Little Wifey". However Sze Nga said that when they got to the set, her niece realized that she had no scene with Ka Lok. Ka Lok said that he would visit the set but got sick and could not go. Thus she was a little disappointed. Sze Nga also said that earlier when Sing Yin saw Ka Lok on television she would scream "Husband". However "young girls'" heart could change at any minute. Most recently her "husband" has already become another classmate. She already minded Ka Lok for being too old and did not love him as much.

Sing Yin already fell in love with acting with her first film. Sze Nga said that once when they worked very late, her niece cried, did not want to leave and want to keep shooting. However Sze Nga wanted her to keep her childhood, she should continue her education and see the world more.

With Sing Yin already moving on, Ka Lok smiled and said that he was a little heartbroken. However when she saw him and still called him "Husband", it was still very sweet. Reporters asked Sing Yin if she knew Ka Lok already had a girlfriend (Shiga Lin)? She innocently stated, "I know!" Has she seen Ka Lok's girlfriend? She nodded right away, her aunt Sze Nga immediately covered Sing Yin's mouth to silence her. Ka Lok was already so embarrassed that his face was all red. He changed the subject to say that movie was pretty entertaining. READY due to the pandemic was postponed its release from the Lunar New Year to Easter, the government just announced that on April 1st the cinema admission rate would be increased from 50% to 75%. Both said that of course they were very happy about being in the first film release after the restriction was eased. Ultimately even more viewers would make the cinema more cheerful and thus they already kept going to audience appreciation events at preview screenings. They hoped that the word of mouth would spread. As the interview ended, reporters asked if Sing Yin felt that Ka Lok's girlfriend was pretty. Before Sing Yin could answer Ka Lok already covered her mouth. Then her aunt Sze Nga carried her away.

Tsang Lok Tung recently already completed her role in the film ONCE UPON A TIME IN HONG KONG (GUM SAU JI). She felt truly honored to be able to participate in two Best Actors Andy Lau Tak Wa and Tony Leung Chiu Wai's historic film. Although she did not have any scene with Lau Tak Wa, when she worked with Leung Chiu Wai she already was very nervous. She said, "Although I didn't serve much purpose, earlier when I rehearsed with Brother Chiu Wai I stayed alert. In the end I was able to finish successfully without any bad take." Did she fall under the spell of Wai Jai's electrifying eyes? Tsang Lok Tung said, "Of course, but I didn't dare to directly look at him!" Did she "collect his stamp" (get a picture with him)? She said that she did not dare to ask, she only took a photo with Ah Sa (Charlene Choi Cheuk Yn) because she was already a top star in her heart.

Liu Kai Chi planned to direct and star in the film TAKE TWO (FAN DAU YUN SUN) to help the younger generations and asked his friend Tin Kai Man to produce. Unfortunately before the film began production Uncle Chi already passed away from illness. Tin Kai Man said that he would fulfill this wish for Uncle Chi and hoped that the movie would begin filming in May or June.

Drama instructor Olivia Yan invites Kristal Tin to the premiere

Stage director and drama instructor Olivia Yan Wing Pui and director Maisie Choi Mei Sze worked together on the art documentary BAD ACTING, which held a charity premiere two nights ago. Aside from film participants Sisley Choi Si Bui, Alex Lam Tak Shun, Shrimp Head (Harriet Yeung Sze Man), Ali Lee Kai Sum, KJ Chan Hiu Kei, Yan Wing Pui's student Wong Yau Nam also attended to show his support. Choi Si Bui said that through the classes she felt like someone took her apart and put her back together again, as she stated that her acting has improved. Lam Tak shun also said that he really admired Si Bui, acting with her was very comfortable.

Because Choi Si Bui studied acting with Yan Wing Pui, she met director Choi Mei Sze and created this opportunity to participate in this documentary. She said, "At first I purely had going to class in mind, I never thought that I would be on the silver screen. In the film I had the most scenes with Lam Tak Shun. I used the method in class to perform, deliberately go wild to show the flaws. I would have many outtakes that would be very funny to watch." Si Bui said that if time would permit she would continue to go to class. She admired Shrimp Head the most for her spirit of always learning, especially her mastery of improvisation and quick wit. Shrimp Head also enlightened her that as an actor she would need to keep studying and learning. Si Bui through the lessons felt that someone took her apart and then put her back together again, making great leaps in her acting.

Lam Tak Shun usually is soft spoken, this time he had to play a mean looking, debt collecting Wise Guy. He said that he was pleased with her performance, but the director had her own ideas, saying that sometimes the more mild mannered someone was the more frightening he was. However it would be a lot of fun. (Would you look forward to seriously working with Si Bui?) I would be very happy to have the chance to work together, I really admire her too. After our rehearsal we became familiar, acting with her was very comfortable."

Lee Kai Sum in the film played a solo act as someone whose debt was being collected. Without any co-star she had to rely on her imagination. She said that she was like she was mentally ill. Without any co-star, talking to herself added to the difficult. She said, "I normally would encourage myself in front of a mirror and make myself some promises. Everyone has a time when they have pressure, after crying and sleep I am fine. (Do you release your emotions like this even for a broken heart?) Not just relationships, but for many factors as well." Earlier she and boyfriend Danny Chan Bing Chuen were rumored to be in relationship trouble, when asked about their current status she did not want to say much. "No comment, I have always handled my relationship in a low key manner. (Right now you are looking for a comfortable way to get along?) I need time to take care of it."

Reportedly, this premiere's proceeds will be donated to the Asia Culture Association to encourage and support young people who are interested in studying drama to learn performance art. After the film was released tickets were sold out in a short time. Now more shows have been added twice. Other than actors, Hong Kong audience were also interested in further exploring drama. The film chronicled a group of acting experts and rookies, Best Actress or amateurs, nakedly shared the pain and the bitterness on the journey of acting, how they struggled and persevered in BAD ACTING, determined to become outstanding actors and live their own art lives.

Succumbing to stomach cancer, veteran actor Liu Kai Chi (Uncle Chi) two nights ago passed away at age 67 in the company of his wife Chan Man Yi and their two sons. Yesterday his widow Chan Man Yi appeared to take care of Uncle Chi's affairs and looked rather peaceful. Uncle Chi loved film. While ailing he still planned to direct and star in a movie about life, TAKE TWO (FAN DAU YUN SUN), and hoped to give new comers a hand. Unfortunately now it has become his unfulfilled wish.

Chow Yun Fat replied to the news of his friend's passing. "I will forever miss him, I wish Brother Chi a safe journey, for Man Yi to be strong and face the future." Fat Soh Jasmine Tan said that earlier she learned that Uncle Chi had cancer and was hospitalized. She wanted to visit but no visitor were permitted at the hospital. Getting the news of Uncle Chi's passing was truly very heartbreaking. His BE WATER MY FRIEND (GIU YEUNG SHUI YUET)'s co-star Anita Yuen Wing Yi said, "Uncle Chi, a good elder, have a safe journey!"

Aaron Kwok Fu Sing worked with Uncle Chi on movies like C+ DETECTIVE (C+ JING TAM), B+ DETECTIVE (B+ JING TAM) and PROJECT GUTENBERG (MO SEUNG). "Finding out about Uncle Chi's passing, I am very distraught. I worked with Uncle Chi on many movies. He was a great co-star, and a good actor who passionately loved acting, very professional and very gentlemanly! My condolences to Uncle Chi's family. Everyone would forever miss Liu Kai Chi this excellent actor."

Damien Lau Chung Yu posted on social media for Uncle Chi. "Didn't you promise me to perform in MATTEO RICCI? How can you just leave like this. Remember, we still have to work together. You are a good actor, an actor I respect; a good person, a good person I respect! I will always miss you!"

In addition, many artists, directors and junior colleagues who worked with Uncle Chi remembered and commended him, including Andy Lau Tak Wa, Richie Jen (Yam Yin Chai), Patrick Tam Yiu Man, Donnie Yen Chi Tan, Irene Wan Bik Ha, Monice Chan Fat Yung, Stephen Fung Tak Lun, Shu Qi, Siu Mei, Paulyn Sun Kai Kwan, Philip Keung Ho Man, Shawn Yue Man Lok, Pinky Cheung Man Chi, Maggie Siu Mei Kei, Ada Choi Siu Fun, Bosco Wong Chung Chak, Adam Pak Tin Nam and Peggy Lee Bik Kei. In addition playing Uncle Chi's daughter on the stage and in a series, Joey Yung Cho Yi and Rosina Lin (Lam Ha Mei) both said that they would always remember this good "Papa"!.

Uncle Chi's widow Chan Man Yi yesterday morning left home around 11 AM, driving first to pick up friend nearby then to the Clearwater Bay Country Club. Because she was not a member, when she arrived at the gate she had to first stop the vehicle and register before entering. Chan Man Yi and her friend stayed until 2PM, during which she attentively asked the waiting reporters, "You have waited for so long, did you eat yet?" When asked how she was, she said, "I am OK, thank you everyone! You hurry up and go eat! (Would you hold a memorial here?) No!" She later went to a commercial building in Jordan. When asked if she was taking care of Uncle Chi's affairs, she said no and proceeded upstairs. Looking back, Uncle Chi had his baptism in 2002 at the Clearway Bay Country Club's turtle pool.

Uncle Chi had a dream to direct. In 2018 he attended the Entertainment Expo's "Operation Green Light" forum to look for investors for his directing debut TAKE TWO (FAN DAU SUN YUN). At the time he revealed that the film's subject would be cherishing life. He hoped that it would be able to go into production so he would be able to fulfill his second dream after his actor dream. Regrettably Uncle Chi was still unable to fulfill his director dream before his passing.

His friend Tin Kai Man revealed that he and Uncle Chi planned to start production on TAKE TWO at the end of last year, with Uncle Chi as the director and he the producer. They wanted to give a hand to young people who were determined to join the film industry, but after Uncle Chi got sick the plan was postponed. While Uncle Chi was at the hospital they stayed in touch. He said that he kept encouraging Uncle Chi that he would wait until he recovered to go into production. Tin Kai man said, "Over a week ago, Uncle Chi called me one day and asked me to keep making the movie and not to wait for him. He said that he already died twice because his heart stopped twice. The doctors saved him. He felt that the movie was his unfulfilled wish, and left it for me to keep it going. The day before he passed he was still asking me about it, asking me whether the movie would stop because he wouldn't be there. I promised him that no matter what we would finish the movie. After hearing that perhaps he was at peace and passed." Tin Kai Man said that Uncle Chi and Ng Man Tat got sick around the same time, he was very heartbroken from losing friends consecutively. He said that Uncle Chi was very positive about his treatment and confident that he would win this battle, but helplessly he left everyone in the end.

Uncle Chi was an actor of substance. Industry insiders commended his excellent acting. His sudden passing was a show business loss. Uncle Chi still had 6 movies yet to be released, including the film with Chow Yun Fat BE WATER, MY FRIEND (GIU YEUNG SHUI YUET), the film version BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI), LADIES MARKET (NUI YUN GAI JOI GEIN LIU), THE ATTORNEY (YUT CUP JI HUNG), SAI SEUNG JI YAU BA BA HO (ONLY PAPA IS GOOD IN THE WORLD) and G STORM (G FUNG BO). Uncle Chi in LADIES MARKET played a vendor who sold clothing. Earlier the stills went viral online and mistook Uncle Chi for falling on hard time and having to sell clothing on the streets. Uncle Chi's management company clarified that it was from the movies and reserved all rights to go after fake news. As for THE ATTORNEY once it was preparing for release, but later due to "technical issues" it was cancelled.

Liu Kai Chi

Chan Man Yi yesterday left the patient's room without speaking with the media

courtesy of

Known as "Uncle Chi", veteran actor Liu Kai Chi was diagnosed with stomach cancer last year but succumbed to the illness. Last night accompanied by his family he passed away at age 67 at the Prince of Wales hospital.

Uncle Chi's company last night issued a statement to the media. "Our beloved Mr. Liu Kai Chi (Uncle Chi) on March 28th 2021 at 8:32 PM at the Prince of Wales hospital peacefully passed away in the company of his family and returned to the Heavenly Father's embrace.

The family thanked the healthcare personnel for their attentive care over the months, and the general public and media for their concern and well wishes. Although the family would miss him, but they still carry the hope that they will be united again in Heaven. We understand everyone's concern for Uncle Chi, but plead with everyone to give Uncle Chi space to handle Uncle Chi's affairs. As for funeral arrangements, everyone will be notified later.

We again sincerely thank everyone's care and concern for Uncle Chi and his family."

Uncle Chi always wanted to keep his illness under low profile. When he entered the hospital he did not notify his friends. Last Tuesday, after the news of Uncle Chi's cancer spread, his wife Chan Man Yi spoke to the media at the hospital and revealed that in mid December last year Uncle Chi started to feel bloated after meals. He went for an examination and the report confirmed the stomach cancer diagnosis. That day she even said that Uncle Chi was very cooperative with the doctor's treatment and received praise as A+ patient.

Bonnie Law Man Chong and Gabriel Harrison (Hoi Chun Kit). The former was heartbroken after finding out Uncle Chi's passing. Law Man Chong said that when she first started in the business she worked with Uncle Chi on several series, and thought that he was a great elder. He taught her a lot and really took care of his junior colleagues. She said that her husband Chan Kwok Bong was very tight lipped. Earlier he knew about Uncle Chi's health but did not tell her. Lately there have been too much unhappy news and she could not accept it, but she wished Uncle Chi's family would take care. Hoi Chun Kit upon learning the news lamented, "People would pass away one day, may Uncle Chi rest in peace." Hoi Chun Kit said that when he started in the business he worked with Uncle Chi. He remembered that Uncle Chi would very gladly teach new comers, instruct new comers on how to get a grasp of the character.

Uncle chi was a student in the 8th TVB Artist Training class in 1978. Upon graduation he signed with TVB. Uncle Chi developed decently at TVB, performing in over 60 television series including THE SHELL GAME, THE LONELY HUNTER, MASTER OF MARTIAL ARTS, UNTRACEABLE EVIDENCE II. He also joined Ricky Wong Wai Kei's HKTV and made THE ELECTION; two years ago he performed in the ViuTV series LIMITED EDUCATION with Amy Chan Sau Man. Uncle Chi over the years worked nonstop. Earlier due to his health, he turned down job offers to focus on his treatment.

Uncle Chi's acting was praised by his colleagues. In 1993 with CAGEMAN (LUNG MAN) he received the 12th Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actor. In 2004 with INFERNAL AFFAIRS II (MO GAN DOH II) he again was nominated for the Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actor, in 2006 with SPL (SAT POR LONG) he received his third Best Supporting Actor nomination, in 2009 with BEAST STALKER (JING YUN) he won another Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actor, in 2016 with LOVE ENDURES (OI JUEN JOI) he won the first Malaysia Golden Butterfly award Best Actor, his first Best Actor award. In recent years his better known work included CALL OF HEROEs (NGAI SING), PROJECT GUTENBERG (MO SEUNG). In recent years Uncle Chi also participated in plays and films with political stance like TEN YEARS (SUP NIN) and WEEDS ON FIRE (DIM NG BO).

Aside from his show business career, Uncle Chi in recent years also worked as a full time lecturer at the Hong Kong Baptist University film academy.

As for his family, his wife Chan Man Yi was his artist training class classmate. They wed in 1987 and ended their love marathon of 9 years. They were a publicly recognized "model couple" in entertainment, and had 3 sons. In 2003 their youngest at age 3 was diagnosed with leukemia and at age 5 succumbed to the illness, the couple suffered a tremendous mental trauma; now that he passed away from stomach cancer as well, many truly would sympathize with his wife Chan Man Yi's experience.
