[2022.10.01] NICK CHEUNG CONSIDERS HIMSELF SLOW ON ACTION SCENES

As Nick Cheung turns from idol to co-star, William Chan of course is happy.

Boss Albert Yeung visits the set to cheer everyone on

Best Actor Nick Cheung Ka Fai and William Chan Wai Ting in the Emperor new film had a series of action scenes. They traded pleasantries as Ka Fai praised Chan Wai Ting as agile while Chan Wai Ting praised him for toughing out his role despite his injury and was very professional. He as early as 9 years ago already made Cheung his idol.

The over HK$ 200 million Emperor film BAU LIT DIM (EXPLOSION POINT) yesterday shot on location at Central under a amber rainstorm  warning. Producer Dante Lam Chiu Yin led actors Cheung Ka Fai, Chan Wai Ting, Shaun Tam Chun Yin, Tony Yang, Wong Yau Nam, Kevin Chu Kam Yin, Dai Yiu Ming, Jonathan Cheung Wing Hong, Aiden Hung Jor Sing and others all appeared. Although the weather was unstable, their morale was not affected. Boss Albert Yeung Sau Sing also visited the set to cheer on the actors.

With many scenes together in the film, Ka Fai and Chan Wai Ting traded pleasantries as soon as they saw each other. Ka Fai praised Chan Wai Ting as agile, during his fight scenes he seemed like he was fully charged like an electric vehicle. "He is more agile than the current me, back then I was very agile too. Now I am a little slow, because I made less action films, haha!" He had to watch himself during running scenes and fight scenes.

Away from Hong Kong film for awhile, Chan Wai Ting felt comfortable because for several months he only focused on one movie. He pointed out that early in the production Ka Fai did not understand him. When they ran into high difficult scenes, he was often asked if he would be able to handle it. "I can't look bad in front of him, so I had to risk my life during the performance. Most of the action scenes I tried to perform myself." Ka Fai explained that he was not questioning William. "With those who aren't trained in martial arts adjustment would be hard for us. However when we took our marks and I saw him hopping around, even then I didn't know he actually was very agile. He has a lot of potential to be an action actor. Next time he can just do the fighting I would just act."

Speaking of Ka Fai's injury from jumping off an overpass, he said, "Whenever I work on Lam Chiu Yin's movies, I either had to be on fire, jump off a building or eat feces. I get tortured in particular!" William praised idol Ka Fai for his professionalism. "I don't feel like I was being abused, I am even grateful that this time I was able to work with Director Lam Chiu Yin and Brother Ka Fai. So I took even more risk. I would try not to use a double. For the shot in which Brother Ka Fai and I jumped from the overpass, Brother Ka Fai actually didn't need to personally perform it. He still insisted. The first jump went great, then with the second jump he was injured. His persistence is well worth being admired!' Would he make Ka Fai his idol? He said, "He always has been, in 2013 I mentioned it in a post." For the film he turned down many Mainland jobs. He stated that it could not be measured with money. He was also linked to supermodel He Sui. He kept responded with he was focused on work. "I am dating Mom, putting Mom on the pedestal." Director Tong Wai Hon earlier said to him that he would have a shirt removal scene, so Chan Wai Ting already worked out actively and quit sugar. Later the director said that the scene was gone, after confirmation he no longer watched what he ate. Then several days later the director suddenly wanted him to take off his clothes. Chan Wai Ting said, "That day for a scene in which I hit (Philip) Keung Ho Man, the director suddenly wanted me to take off my shirt. My chocolate bar abdominals also became a blur."

Ka Fai earlier said that for the jump he actually did not need to be there, but when he appeared on the set the director asked him to jump from the 10 foot high catwalk. "William is taller and I am shorter, when both of us jumped together my steps were messed up. Finally my left leg was injured. After two weeks so far I still have to see the doctor as it hasn't recovered yet. For now we are shooting the dramatic scenes first."

After 7 years away from film, television best actor Shaun Tam Chun Yin got both a fresh and familiar feeling. He has worked with Chan Wai Ting and Wong Yau Nam before. Instead it would be the first time he would work with Cheung Ka Fai. Playing the villain, he kept his facial hair for several months already. With his tan he frightened the teachers when he appeared at his son's first grade interviews. "I look like a drug lord and gave the headmaster a very strange impression. Maybe he thought I had mental issues! (Do you have a lot of fight scenes?) Almost all of my scenes are fight scenes, in one scene I fought with Wong Yau Nam. He took quite a beating. (Was anyone hurt?) Everyone is, but they are superficial wounds." Because they would rather get the shot in one take than keep doing another one, they fought very realistically. When he actually hit Yau Nam he too felt the pain.

Earlier when he and Ka Fai had a fight scene in Wo Hap Shek, they suffered heat strokes one after another and needed ice for relief from the heat. "In the film we had to give the impression of men on the verge, so in the heat we had to wear coats, bulletproof vests and we had to run!" Years ago he and Lam Chiu Yin worked on a TVB series together and he has worked with action director Stephen Tung Wai many times. He only hoped to be able to get the best shot. The most memorable was a chase scene that took a week of overnight shoots. When he went to get salt tablets to prevent heat stroke, the clerk asked without a marathon race why would he buy any. He joked that working with Lam Chiu Yin was tougher than an Iron Men triathlon.

Tam Chun Yin revealed that soon he would fly to Malaysia for location shoot, after which he would not have time to rest as he would return to the Mainland for a TVB modern series. He joked, "Nothing I can do, tuition is expensive and I have to make a living. However actually I haven't worked on a series in over 10 months, this time would be good. I would be able to shave and look handsome for a modern series."

Coming from Taiwan, Tony Yang worked with Cheung Ka Fai and Lam Chiu Yin for the first time. When he heard the line up he immediately agreed to come to work in Hong Kong. The media joked that he was daring, working with the "Demon Director" before considering the issue of injury. He believed that the team would protect the actors properly. He was not afraid of getting hurt and felt it would be a very valuable experience. He would come to Hong Kong for 7 or 8 days, and would miss his daughter the most. Since he had to make money he could do nothing about that, he could only have video chats everyday and would buy toys to bring back to Taiwan for her. As for his Golden Bell award nomination, Tony said that this competition would be fierce and being nominated was already great.

Louis Cheung Kai Chung two nights ago attended a pop up event. Speaking of his film THE NARROW ROAD (JAT LO MEI CHUN)'s Golden Horse Best Actor nomination, he admitted that he was already very pleased with the nomination and praised each opponent to be just as outstanding. He said that his October and November work schedules have already been set, for now he did not know whether he would attend the award show. As for his family's reaction, he said, "Nothing, just like normal. Actually not just them, I was rehearsing for the concert at the time. When I got the news I was stunned for a second, then I continued the rehearsal."

In addition, NARROW originally had 4 Golden Horse Award nominations. The Golden Horse Executive Committee yesterday suddenly announced the its "Best Original Film Song" nomination was disqualified because the song has yet to be officially distributed but has already been performed publicly. It was not created just for the film either.

[2022.09.30] KEAREN PANG LOOKS FORWARD TO WORKING WITH THE MAMA'S AFFAIR TEAM AGAIN

Director Kearen Pang earlier lost her mother and she is still in pain

The Keung To and Jer Lau starred MAMA'S AFFAIR passed HK$ 37 million
courtesy of mingpao.com

Director Kearen Pang Sau Wai yesterday attended an event in Tsim Sha Tsui yesterday. Speaking of Mother Pang's passing last Monday (the 19th), she said that she was still in pain. Mood swings were definite, but she would not deliberately suppress it. Fortunately work has been busy and helped by diverting her attention. She said, "Mama was up there in age, in poor health, so I had to have thought about it. However I still wasn't mentally prepared. When Mama was sent from the hospital from home, I got the call and rushed to the hospital right away. However I couldn't make it to see her for the last time. It happened very suddenly. Heaven had this arrangement and I needed to comfort the emotions of the people around Mama and the domestic helper. I felt in the handling I grew." She said that she was handling her late mother's affairs and work has not been affected.

The Pang Sau Wai directed film MAMA'S AFFAIR (AH MA YAU JOR DAI YI GOR) passed HK$ 37 million at the box office. She planned to work with the original team again, but first she would wait for Keung To and Jer Lau Ying Ting to resume work and reunite with them at the movies for audience appreciation events. Since its release the film has not been promoted with the full team. She said, "So people are looking forward to what condition they would be in when they come out, maybe there would be pressure. However I believe they have ways to handle that."

[2022.09.30] ANGELA YUEN BREAKS DOWN ON THE STREET OVER HER NOMINATION

Angela Yuen breaks into tears of joy after receiving the good news

Angela Yuen Lai Lam with the new film THE NARROW ROAD (JAT LO MEI CHUN) was nominated for the 59th Golden Horse Award Best Actress. Currently visiting England, after receiving the good news she immediately covered her face as she broke down on the streets. She wiped away her tears as she smiled. Angela shared this video on social media and said, "Sorry, I really don't want to be this lame either. However actually the body's reaction is too direct, actually I really would cry like a pig. Standing still for 5 minutes on the underground tunnel, my mind was running on high speed in hopes of being able to digest this news." She thanked NARROW lead actor Louis Cheung Kai Chung by name. "If you didn't recommend me to go to the casting, I probably couldn't possibly imagine that I would be able to master this role. When I heard from the team about your recommendation, my first reaction was super large question mark. I thought I probably have been known around the news for my long term crappy acting for a long time. Thank you Chung for seeing me at the workshop and also letting the team see me!"

[2022.09.29] FAR FAR AWAY PASSES HK$ 10 MILLION AT THE BOX OFFICE

FAR FAR AWAY after 6 weeks in release passed HK$ 10 million at the box office.  Director Amos Why two nights ago attended an audience appreciation event and opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate.
courtesy of mingpao.com

The Amos Why directed, Kaki Sham and Jennifer Yu Heung Ying starred film FAR FAR AWAY (LUEN LO SHAN KA LA) after 8 weeks in release passed HK$ 10 million at the box office. Two nights ago the director in order to thank the audience for their support attended an audience appreciation event at the Golden Scene cinema with producer Kwong Pui Sze and opened bottles of champagne to celebrate the box office success. FAR's production budget was HK$ 2.7 million. Before the release Amos Why hoped to make a movie that would make money, because his earlier films DOT 2 DOT (DIM DUI DIM) and NAPPING KID (YIK HEUNG SAU GWAI) both lost money. Now his dream has come true. Reportedly the film company later would hold a celebration.

Hong Kong films recently have been thriving. The Sunny Chan Wing Sun directed, Dayo Wong Tze Wa, Louis Cheung Kai Chung, Stephy Tang Lai Yan, Ivana Wong Yuen Chi, Lin Minchen and Peter Chan Cham Man starred TABLE FOR SIX (FAN HEI GUNG SUM) after 3 weeks in release made HK$ 44.88 million as of two days ago. Tze Wa earlier due to his play THE LAST GIFT was unable to attend audience appreciation events with his co-stars. However THE LAST GIFT's run has ended, Tze Wa would also return to the team. Yesterday the TABLE official site announced that the full team would attend the audience appreciation event on October 2nd to thank the audience for their support. All 6 actors would share the production experience with everyone then.

[2022.09.29] MAX ZHANG FIGHTS IN EXTREME COLD

courtesy of on.cc

The Max Zhang Jin, Aarif Rahman (Lee Chi Ting), Jiang Luxia starred film WOLFPACK would open today in Hong Kong; in the film many of the latest military operations would be on display, including desert sniping, indoor gun fight, close contact combat, street chases, explosions and various other battle formats. It would also be Zhang Jin and Lee Chi Ting's first contact with military action film. Thus before hand they both were very prepared, deepen their knowledge in the area and personally performed many of the action scenes!

Zhang Jin in one scene had close combat in the 30 degrees Celsius below zero extreme cold, which was also the hardest scene for him. "Because it was too cold. The film shot in Xinjiang for three months, sometimes from night to early next morning. I also had fight scenes in 30 degrees before zero, the physical requirement was highly demanding." With fight scene injury was inevitable. Zhang Jin said that with each action scene, he would have different degree of injury. No injury at all would be impossible.

Lee Chi Ting had to overcome his fear of heights as he repel on the 58 meters wall. "The film had many car chases, fight scenes in a moving car. These scenes' difficulties were even harder than actual face to face fighting. One of the scenes was the most memorable, sliding down from the top floor library on the wall as the fight went on. That scene was truly very afraid. I had a little fear of heights. That library wall was 58 meters tall, I was a little scared but I still wanted to finish this scene myself."

Peter Chan reveals on the program that Takeshi Kaneshiro does not really want to make movies
courtesy of singtao.com

Takeshi Kaneshiro (Gum Sing Mo) in recent years have drastically reduced production. Director Peter Chan Ho Sun who has worked with him on many films like PERHAPS LOVE (YU GOR OI) and WUXIA (MO HUP) recently on a ViuTV program revealed that his mind was no longer on film and he did not want to make more movies. He also said that he has invited Gum Sing Mo numerous times to work together again, but was rejected. He felt that now if he wanted to be able to get him to be in a movie, he would need at least half a year to convince him. Chan Ho Sun said, "He basically doesn't really want to make movies, he would find 100 reasons to turn them down, like 'unable to go to places without computer or the internet for shoots'." He described Gum Sing Mo as very objective and rather self conscious. He had to find his comfort zero in order to be willing to make a movie. He even revealed that while working on THE WARLORDS (TAU MING JONG), stars Jet Li (Lee Nin Kit), Andy Lau Tak Wa and Gum Sing Mo were all top tier actors. Getting them together was very hard. In one scene they argued to the point of almost no resolution, in a panic he could only asked Gum Sing Mo, who he was the closest to, not to chime in.

The 59th Golden Horse Award yesterday announced its nominations in Taiwan. Many of the nominees were from Hong Kong. Among them Louis Cheung Kai Chung successfully made his "zero breakthrough" as he would vie for Best Actor with Gordon Lam Ka Tung, Joseph Chang and others. Cya Liu and Angela Yuen Lai Lam "jumped class" to challenge Sylvia Chang and others in hopes of being able to pocket this year's Best Actress award!

This year's Golden Horse Award would take place on November 19th in Taipei. Over 457 films applied and competition has been as fierce as usual. Last year's Best Supporting Actress Wang Yu-Xuan yesterday along with actor Tseng Jing-Hua unveiled the nominations. Many were from Hong Kong. The Soi Cheang Pou Soi directed Hong Kong film LIMBO (JI CHI) would compete in 14 categories including Best Director, Best Actor and Best Actress to lead the nominations. Taiwan films INCANTATION and COO-COO 043 followed with 13 nominations each.

For Best Actor, Louis Cheung Kai Chung was nominated for the first time for the Golden Horse Award with the film THE NARROW ROAD (JAK LO MEI CHUN) opposite "Golden Horse frequent guest" Gordon Lam Ka Tung (LIMBO) and Anthony Wong Chau Sun (THE SUNNY SIDE OF THE STREET) among others. Focused on developing in the film industry in recent years, Ah Chung replied after hearing the good news. "The nomination is already a recognition, I am very pleased!" Ka Tung said, "I want to congratulate all the friends who were nominated for LIMBO, special thanks to director Cheang Pou Soi, the producer and others. They are the ones who granted me this opportunity so I would have the chance to perform. The entire team's credit couldn't be overlooked, I sincerely thank you." Wong Chau Sun stated that he was happy beyond expectation. Seeing the strong competition, he would treat it normally. He was already very happy to be able to participate, feeling that it was bonus.

For Best Actress two "first timers" LIMBO's Cya Liu and THE NARROW ROAD's Angela Yuen Lai Lam would battle A LIGHT NEVER GOES OUT's veteran star Sylvia Chang! The 33 year old Cya Lu while shooting LIMBO often accompanied rats and cockroaches, once even worried that she contracted disease from the dirty water. Her contribution has been repaid in recent months. After winning the Hong Kong Film Critic Society and the Hong Kong Film Award Best Actress, yesterday she punched her ticket to the Golden Horse Awards. Currently working on a film with Donnie Yen Chi Tan in the Mainland, one could imagine how excited she would be. If she successfully won she would have won all the important film awards in Hong Kong and Taiwan. Her worth and level of fame would be unrivaled!

As for the 28 year old Yuen Lai Lam, the Best Actress nomination absolutely was a pleasant surprise. She said, "Thank you Director, Producer and the entire production team. I am incredibly emotional, but after the joy I would continue to do what I am supposed to do." Sylvia Chang was surprised to be nominated. "I completely didn't expect it!" This was her 10 Best Actress nomination. In the past she has won twice with MY GRANDFATHER (NGOR DIK YEH YEH) and PASSION (JUI OI).

Cheang Pou Soi with LIMBO was nominated for Best Director; LIMBO was also the only Hong Kong film to compete for Best Narrative Feature.

First time Golden Horse Award Best Supporting Actress nominee Jennifer Yu Heung Ying just returned from attending a film festival in Korea and was at home in quarantine. Upon learning the good news she was very emotional. "I truly am very grateful. I just found out the news and I was so excited I wanted to cry. I held my daughter and told her, 'Mommy got nominated!' She pouted as if she wanted to kiss me. Thank you Golden Horse jury. (Would you attend?) I don't know yet, because I don't know how my schedule will be." She said that she really liked her FAR FAR AWAY (LUEN LO SHAN KA LA) character "Meh Jeh" and thanked her co-star Kaki Sham, without him there would not be "Meh Jeh".

Started as the son of Ang Lee and a child star, Mason Lee after 5 years with LIMBO was nominated again for Best Supporting Actor. With his father's persistence for art, he liked to make different challenges and did not like to repeat his roles. He chose LIMBO after his caution selection. Revealed to be secretly married to his make up artist girlfriend early in the year, he revealed that life has been very happy.

The Emperor Motion Picture LIFE MUST GO ON (SUM SIU SIM BEI KAU) two nights ago held its premiere at Causeway Bay. Dior Cheng Yi Kin (nicknamed E Mein), Catherine Chau Ka Yi, Gladys Li Ching Kwan, Carlos Chan K Lok, Chung Suet Ying, Cloud Wan Ho Ying, Feanna Wong Suk Man and other key actors attended. Emperor Group chief Albert Yeung Sau Sing and his wife Luk Siu Man also showed their support. Guest Hins Cheung King Hin also made the trip, as a large group of fans flooded in for a glimpse of their idol. E Mein revealed that his wife Yoyo Mung Ka Wai was learning Japanese in Fukuoka, Japan so she did not attend. However he revealed that he and his wife have had secret meetings.

E Mein said that he has not attended a premiere in Hong Kong for years. The last time would probably be THE GOLDEN JOB (WONG GUM HING DAI) 4 years ago. He pointed out that he did not reduce production. He would make a movie a year. In addition he would have to run into something suitable and he wanted to make before taking it. "Like this movie, I was very surprised that someone asked me to make it. I hope in the future Hong Kong film would continue to have more domestic elements and bloom fully like before."

Chau Ka Yi said that she was single, and only invited her parents. Now she had no suitor that she would be able to invite. E Mein did not bring his wife Yoyo Mung Ka Wai either, because his wife was studying Japanese in Fukuoka. How long has he not seen her? E Mein joked, "It's not like we haven't seen each other in a long time, we also had mystery meetings but we don't need to tell everyone." earlier Yoyo said that she failed a test? He immediately defended her. "You need to study because you aren't good at it, if you are great then you don't need to. Because she doesn't know she went to learn." Has Yoyo been able to communicate in Japan? He said that in everyday life she had no problem. When would he meet up with his wife again? E Mein said that he would have to finish work in Hong Kong first, perhaps after performing his concert.

October 4th would be E Mein's 55th birthday. This year his birthday wish just got better and better, like in the past few days he heard a lot of good news. "I wish for everything to be better and better, one after another, everything would be able to return to normal." As for personal wish, he said, "I am very pleased with everything me, so I wish that the community spirit would trend up. If I have some stuff, but the entire climate wouldn't be too good I wouldn't be too happy either. I might as well wish for the community." Ka Yi joked that her wish was for the film to be a big hit. E Mein agreed. "My wish also includes your wish coming true, everything would go smoothly for everyone."

In addition, Cheung King Hin two nights ago supported the film premiere. He said that he would participate in the Lunar New Year film CHIU SUN GAING HAI GIP ONG (SUPER CRAZY ARMED ROBBERY CASE), which also would be directed by director Ying Chi Wan. Thus he came to gain experience. In addition the film was his company Emperor's new investment project, no matter what he would have to give his full support.

Speaking of his Lunar New Year film already reached the test shoot stage, he would soon shoot some action scenes. Hin Jai revealed that before the performance he has already been training his arms, but he would leave the heavier lifting to Jeffry Ngai. "His costume would have less clothes, while every one of us would be wearing turtle necks. I could only show off a little. This time (Ivana) Wong Yuen Chi and I would team up to fight outsiders. Everyone would perform personally without any use of doubles. I would even have to learn to hold a gun. During the shoot I would be extra careful." Has he increased his insurance policy coverage? He said that he would have to ask the company. He believed that the company would handle it according to the rules. Hin Jai pointed out that the film would shoot until November before wrapping up production. He hoped that the release would have good box office. He knew that action stunts would definitely be tough, but as the seasons turned colder and into Autumn, he would prepare food for everyone and would also "treat". "In particular lately the pandemic has begun to ease, everyone have been very happy. The morale has been good. The production would also be much smoother."'

Hin Jai also planned to book a show to support LIFE, because he felt that Chau Ka Yi and Li Ching Kwan both put an effort into their performance. He learned that the company Emperor this year would work with many new directors. He also looked forward to working with new directors and give endless amount of support. Hin Jai also mentioned that this year Hong Kong films have been both commercial and critical successes. "Everyone's support is very important, only with it would even more newcomers be attracted to join the business. I too hold this state of mind of learning on the job." Would he consider directing? He said, "I would first get better at acting, this time before the performance I also went to a dozen or so classes to study acting."

Chan Ka Lok just returned from working in the Mainland. He said that he has always wanted to work with Cheng Yi Kin. The director also made a special arrangement for him to guest star in a scene with Ekin, so he was very happy.
