17-year-old sophomore Xiang Wei-xin sees food as the most healing and important thing in life. That's how she meets Tao You-quan: in the convenience store on campus.

When Xiang Wei-xin needs five more bucks to pay for her favorite pineapple bun, Tao You-quan chips in and saves her day. The next day, she witnesses a breakup scene by the pool in school, and it turns out to be You-quan and his cheating girlfriend who refuses to let go. Wei-xin comes up with an idea and uses her best friend/campus belle Fang Qi-ran as an excuse to intervene, ending their relationship. To her, she's returning the favor by helping out.

Since that day, Qi-ran’s been receiving two breakfasts, a wooing gesture from two guys. Qi-ran is not interested and gives them to her foodie best friend Wei-xin so they don't go to waste. Wei-xin is strapped for cash, and to be able to eat to her heart’s content every day is more than satisfying. Meanwhile, Zhang Yuan-shuo, the president of Guitar Club, uses free milk tea to get Wei-xin to say yes to do a solo show on the school's anniversary. There is only one catch: she can't really play guitar. In a chance encounter on the rooftop, You-quan offers to teach her guitar; therefore to Wei-xin, it doesn't seem like that much of a daunting challenge anymore...

Like most 17-year-old girls, Wei-xin imagines all kinds of scenarios in her future life, and You-quan, Qi-ran and Yuan-shuo do too. At the beginning of the story, they never expect so much can happen in a year and that there will be all kinds of hurdles in life...

The good news is that they eventually find the answers on their way to adulthood.

Dayo Wong Tze Wa, Tse Kwan Ho, Bowie Lam Bo Yi, Michael Wong Man Tak, Louise Wong Dan Nei, Fish Liew Chi Yu, Dee Ho Kai Wa, Renci Yeung Sze Wing, Adam Pak Tin Nam and Vincent Kok Tak Siu yesterday attended the film DUK SIT DAI JONG (POISON TONGUED LAWYER)'s production start ceremony in Fan Lan. Director Ng Wai Lun described the story to be about a jerk against a group of upper class scum. He handed the jerk to Tze Wa to play because Wong has not been seen scolding and jabbing at people in a very long time. Tze Wa said, "I hope to have good box office!"

Tze Wa said that in the film he would play a judge and a lawyer. He would yell at people, make fun and battle brains and brawn. Would he improvise at anytime? He said, "No, the director is also the screenwriter. Earlier he wrote UNBEATABLE (GIK JIN). This story is also very well written, with drama galore. After I took the role, I spent two years to scam the script. It is highly difficult." would he have any action scene in the film? He joked, "This I have avoid a little, the level of upheaval in the drama is already enormous."

Wong Dan Nei said that she was excited to be working with Tze Wa and many elders. She wanted to take advantage of the chance to learn from Tze Wa. Tze Wa also gave a funny tip. "Take one step at a time, when the boat docks it will naturally be straight." Wong Dan Nei and Liew Chi Yu last time played sisters in ANITA. This time they again would have scenes together, and would have a love hate relationship. Liew Chi Yu believed the performance would be a lot of fun.

Yeung Sze Wing in the film would play law partners with Tze Wa and Ah Dee. For the dialogue and legal terms, she would need to do a lot of homework so she appeared nervous. She said, "Tze Wa and Ah Dee have quick wit, with them I am afraid I wouldn't be able to follow. Luckily we constantly see each other lately at table reads. (Would you be worried that Ah Dee would play tricks on you?) I instead would look forward to him taking care of the catering. The last time we worked together, his assistance team brought a lot of delicacies for us to enjoy."

Ah Dee pointed out that his character would carry the comedy load, but Tsz Wa himself was extremely charming so he would need to do his share. "I would have to coordinate, I couldn't steal the spotlight excessively. I would have to consider how to work with other actors and set off spark." Pak Tin Nam said that his Chinese was not great, so he felt pressure from working opposite Ah Dee and Yeung Sze Wing and had to do all of his homework too.

Denise Ho breaks down halfway through her performance
courtesy of mingpao.com

Yesterday Denise Ho Wan Si held an online concert "HOCC MINI LIVE -- YY NIGHT" to celebrate her good friend Wyman Wong's birthday and chose to perform songs that Wyman Wong wrote lyrics to. He was in Europe. This was the first public performance for Ho Wan Si since her May 11th arrest by the Department of National Security on the charge of "conspiring with foreign power or forces beyond the borders to endanger national security" and release on bail. Earlier she wrote on social media, "Even if the environment gets worse, I still have to improve myself and keep on living well."

Yesterday was Wyman Wong's birthday. Ho Wan Si first shared a photo of them dancing on the stage on social media. She wrote, "I really want to one day hold your hand and step onto this stage again, so we both have to be healthy, live to 100, promise me."

The first song of the concert was SWALLOWTAIL BUTTERFLY. Ho Wan Si appeared to be relaxed and even pretended to be Aaron Kwok Fu Sing when she sang the birthday song for Wyman Wong. She explained that the original concept of YY night for her own birthday (May 10th), because a lot of things happened it was delayed. So she decided to celebrate her close friend Wyman Wong's birthday instead. She not only sang songs that Wyman Wong wrote for her but also for other singers as well. Fans posted messages to cheer her on. Midway through the concert she broke down. The staff handed her tissue to wipe her tears. She said that she did not dare to look at the messages anymore. "It's not easy, not easy for anyone." She sid that at this moment she thought of friends who have scattered all around the world, or some in Hong Kong who could not be easily seen, some who have lost their freedom. She said that in the past week she cried a lot, but no matter what everyone would keep working hard. The concert originally was for members only, but later she arranged for a social media live broadcast and for even more people to be able to watch it.

However he would have to lose weight for his year end concert in Taiwan. After the film CHILLI LAUGH STORY, Cheng Chung Kei again played Edan's Papa as well as a taxi driver. To be different from before, he was willing to make the sacrifice for art and gain 30 pounds. However he absolutely had no fear, only because after he would lose weight and trained to lose weight for his year end concert in Taiwan. Although the pandemic has been rampant in Taiwan, he was not worried that the pandemic would keep the show from being performed as scheduled.

MIRROR member Frankie Chan Shui Fai yesterday announced the break up with his outside the industry girlfriend. Brothers Edan and Jer both said that they only heard about it online. They felt that they should have a little space for their personal matter. Edan said, "I saw that both he and his former girlfriend both expressed that they would no longer comment on the matter, so we shouldn't respond for them. (MIRROR members recently have been taking turns with break up?) Lately MIRROR had more jobs, later when we would see him they would ask. Since we are all men we wouldn't need to say too much." Also broken up earlier, Jer was asked about his current love life and he immediately said no comment. Was he dating now? Jer said, "I would try not to comment on relationships, who has the time? I have to work on a series. (Have you gotten back together with your girlfriend?) No comment." Edan chimed in, "Now we are better off focusing on work."

Edan this time played a very ill tempered person who constantly threw tantrum and loved to drink. He even revealed that for a drunk scene he tried a big glass of whiskey to help him with getting into character, but he joked that he inherited his father's inability to get drunk. He has seen Jer drunk though and slept like he was dead. He even revealed that he had many photos of Jer in compromising positions.

Mo Shun Kwan revealed that after the film would wrap she would wait for summer vacation. Her daughters would return to Hong Kong and she would spend more time with them. She hoped that no quarantine would be required then and the whole family would be able to visit Japan. In addition, ditching her around one year old daughter and "returning" to the movies, Yu Heung Ying felt very guilty and sorry to her daughter on the first day of work according to co-star Wong Yau Nam. However Yu Yeung Ying said, "By the second day I was already in character and I was fine. However once I worked until 1 AM before getting home, my daughter was unwilling to sleep and waited for me. Hubby described our daughter's condition as shrieking. As soon as I got past the door I immediately washed my hands, changed and coaxed her to sleep."

The Sandra Ng Kwan Yu, Ronald Cheng Chung Kei, Gigi Leung Wing Kei, Edan Lui Cheuk On starred film CHILLI LAUGH STORY (HOP GA LAT) originally was to be this year's Lunar New Year film, but in the end when cinemas were closed due to the government's tightening of pandemic prevention social distancing measures the release has been postponed until July 14th. CHILLI would be Hong Kong's firs summer vacation Lunar New Year film, wishing the audience an early Happy Lunar New Year this summer. When the four leads learned of the film's release this summer, they immediately had a video conference to discuss their excitement.

Gigi curiously asked, "Lunar New Year greeting during the summer vacation? When would CHILLI LAUGH STORY be released?" Edan anxiously said, "Fans, and Aunt Three next door, Soon Jai also said their necks have been stretched out from waiting. If it doesn't open soon, it won't be my first film!" As everyone chimed in, Kwan Yu officially announced, "CHILLI LAUGH STORY now has decided to open July 14th." Ronald joked, "July 14th? Aren't you kidding? Why don't you release it during summer vacation then!" Kwan Yu again reminded everyone, "July 14th, not on the Lunar calendar, not Sister Law Lan's Lunar calendar!"

During the conference, Kwan Yu took the opportunity to chase down Edan and asked him about the 100 MIRROR concert tickets she asked him to get for her. Kwan Yu jokingly asked, "I asked you to help me with getting 100 tickets, can't you get them?" Playing Edan's onscreen Mama, Gigi also chimed in, "Did you forget about your Mommy?" Edan pleaded in response, "I will do my best! No problem!"

Celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Hong Kong Hand Over, the film LOOK UP (YUT YEUNG DIK TIN HUNG) will open on June 23rd. The film would be a joint release of four Hong Kong film companies Sil-Metropole, Emperor Motion Pictures, Media Asia and One Cool Film. Sil-Metropole Organization produced it. Yesterday the film held a press conference. The cast and the crew attended and promoted the film, including chiefs of release companies Sil-Metropole Organization, Emperor Motion Pictures, Media Asia Film Production, and One Cool Film Production, producer John Chong Ching, four new directors Daniel Chan Yee-Hang, Tim Poon Chi Yin, Hau Chor Fung, and Yip Ching Hang, stars Ivana Wong Yuen Chi, Shek Sau, Kevin Chu Kam Yin, Michelle Yim (Mai Suet), Stephanie Che Yuen Yuen, Anna Ng Yuen Yi, Aaron Chow Chi Kwan, Alex Lam Tak Shun, Ben Yuen Fu Wa, Tsui Ho Cheong, Bobular Wong Sing Yui, Wong Yik Ho, Terry Zou (Chow Man Ching), Lai Chun, Buber Mak Wing Nam, Angie Sham Yat Ka, Kochun Tse , and Kumer So. Everyone wished that the Hong Kong film industry would produce talent in every generation!

At the press conference, the soul figure of planning LOOK UP, Sil-Metropole Organization chief Chan Yat Kei shared the original intent of four film companies teaming up to release the film. "This year would be the 25th Anniversary of the Hong Kong Hand Over. We are very honored to present our most sincere salute to the Hong Kong's return to the Motherland with this film. The idea of the film came from 2017 when we led nine Hong Kong film companies for the short film production project, BEAUTIFUL HONG KONG. Actually, Sil-Metropole has always kept the excellent tradition of cultivating talent for the industry. Over the years we have always provided the opportunity and the platform for young people who intended on joining the film industry. Through short film competition films, with different subjects and production methods, Hong Kong's society appearance and regional cultural characteristics are shown in an all-round and multiple perspective way, better pass on the excellent tradition and style of Hong Kong film and tap more outstanding film talents for the prosperity and development of Hong Kong film. It is very gratifying that after two short film competitions, we finally successfully put the concept of short film on the big screen, among them director Yip Ching Hang and the first year's Best Actor Wong Sing Yui also participated in the shooting of LOOK UP. The various efforts we have made have only one purpose - to make Hong Kong films continue to thrive and to have talents from generation to generation. On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of our return, I hope our film can bring you a refreshing feeling, and let us reminisce about the ups and downs of the past 25 years, and work together to create a better tomorrow."

Another soul character of this project, producer Chong Ching said that the four directors have four personalities and four styles. After they are familiar with the first one, they move on to the second one and grind together again. They work hard, but all the actors deserve the most thanks. Because each actor, without saying a word after listening to the story or how many scenes they would be in, agree without hesitation to support the new director force. This is also the spirit of Hong Kong movies. This time in making four stories to move people, he pointed out that from the creative process, he deeply realized the dedication and enthusiasm of the directors. The film can move everyone a little, which is the result of their hard work. The four co-directors are also grateful for the opportunity given by the film company, and said they have benefited a lot from their elder Chong Ching. The actors of the four segments of LOOK UP also introduced their roles and talked about the filming at the beginning of the year under the outbreak of the epidemic. They praised the team for showing the flexible spirit of Hong Kong people, working together to complete the filming as scheduled, and it can be released in the Hand Over period. They are also very happy that yesterday coincided with the relaxation of the theater occupancy rate to 85%. They hope that the theater can resume normal seating when it is released in June, so that more audiences can come to the theater to enjoy LOOK UP together.

In his first Hand Over film, Chu Kam Yin in the film played a brave young man who worked hard to fulfill his dreams and had to connect four stories. Playing the role from university graduation to his 40s, he said that because he still has not reached middle age he spent a lot of time on studying the character. In the four segments his favorite was the Chinese Opera Dream character. He played a numb and heartless manager who was a social worker for awhile. Since he has been in the business for some time was he numb? He said, "I haven't been in the business for too long yet, I would always remind myself." Speaking of his experience with the Hand Over, he said that at 8 or 9 he returned to Hong Kong from Canada with his family. It was July 1st, 1997. Papa even joked that the fireworks in Hong Kong was to welcome their return, so he had a deep impression.

Michelle Yim (Mai Suet) and Shek Sau in the Chinese Opera Dream segment played a couple again. Shek Sau said that this was already their fourth pairing but they still were just a couple, unable to go further to marriage. Mai Sue said that after working together many times they already had great chemistry. Shek Sau said, "We cultivated our relationship for 30 years in the film, but as a married a couple we would have to wait for the next one."

In addition, Mai Suet pointed out that this crossover of Cantonese opera and electronic music would be very chill, the producer would even create Chinese, English, Mandarin and other versions.

Ivana Wong Yuen Chi and Alex Lam Tak Shun spoke to the media together. They performed in different segments. Wong Yuen Chi said that she played a social worker in "90 Degree Angle World", the first time that she played a social worker. She thought it was a lot of fun, especially when working with a group of outstanding actors. Aaron Chow Chi Kwan's performance made her really wanted to protect him. She has not tried a production method like this time. The director would focus on communicating with actors, after setting goals the actors were left to achieve them and given a lot of freedom. It was the most memorable to her.

Speaking of the 25th anniversary of the Hand Over, Wong Yuen Chi said that the most memorable was the experience of chasing her dream. "Because the film was about chasing dreams, I felt closer and closer to the dream. All along I learned a lot, I really wanted to make art, at the same time also performed a lot of popular music jobs. Earlier I worked on a decorative art exhibit. Next month I would perform a classical music concert. Because I grew up in a classical music family, I wanted to salute my parents through this."

Alex said that his character was a musician who returned from Spain to chase his dream, just like him in real life when he came to Hong Kong to chase his music dream in 2010. Thus he was able to get into his character very quickly. In the story he performed, he represented electronic music and Mai Suet and Shek Sau represented Cantonese Opera in a crossover. Would he be interested in a crossover with Cantonese Opera in real life? He said, "I made several songs already, I would sing a duet with Sister Mai Suet and add in Cantonese Opera elements."

[2022.05.19] DONNIE YEN'S NEW FILM LAUNCHES CANNES CAMPAIGN

courtesy of on.cc

The 75th Cannes International Film Festival opened on the night of the 17th. 21 films would compete for the Palme d'Or award. The Donnie Yen Chi Tan produced and starred new film SAKRA (TIN LUNG BK BO ji KIU FUNG JUEN) also made its appearance at Cannes. Its latest concept poster was published on an internationally renowned entertainment publication on May 18th. The poster displayed the strong presence of the martial art heroics with unique Chinese ink art. Yen Chi Tan's new film SAKRA would be adapted on Louis Cha (Jin Yong)'s wuxia novel classic DEMI-GODS AND SEMI-DEVILS (TIN LUNG BAK BO). Yen Chi Tan would produce the film and also star in the title role Kiu Fung. This character was also one of the creator Jin Yong's favorite, the hero with the most sense of justice in DEMI-GODS AND SEMI-DEVILS, the symbol and the existence of a spiritual leader. The film would be about the Beggars' Gang leader Kiu Fung's destiny and background, through his strong determination he struggled through the martial art world of blades and swords and gradually transformed into the "strongest hero" who represented honor. In the film Kiu Fung's life and experience would thoroughly display his fearless heroic spirit, which would be the most international, all new interpretation. The film's Chinese title was written by the famous Mainland calligraphy artist Xu Jing. She has been the "official" calligraphy artist for Zhang Yimou films like HERO and SHADOW.

Chi Tan admitted that he took a few months to consider before taking the role. Wong Jing's sincerity moved him into working on the Wong Jing and Cheng Wai Man directed film. "Earlier I guest starred in NEW KUNG FU CULT MASTER as Cheung Sam Fung. Actually I wasn't the most satisfied with his production, so this time when he approached me I told him to let go and let me do it. He has seen me produce many movies before, so he was very relaxed and made this deal happen."

Chi Tan put a lot of thought into character designs of this classic wuxia novel adaptation. Earlier he and his wife Cissy Wang visited Dalian, Mount Qingcheng and other locations. Aside from spending time with his wife on the vacation, he also scouted location and did research for inspiration. "This time I really want to give the audience a new visual impact and capture a type of nostalgia that would preserve the original's flavor while able to meet what the current audience likes. So I spent a lot of time on character design, screenplay and kept studying history. Because one of the attraction of this classic wuxia novel was its connection to history. I hope to be able to handle everything."

Since the story would feature "Kiu Fung", lead female character "Ah Chu" has not yet been cast. Chi Tan has already made Wong Jing promise no "fake faced female star". "Acting ability has to come first for the lead actress, and the face has to be real. The appearance can't be very fake. Recognition instead isn't that important, as long as she can act and her aura is right then she is fine. (If no one in the industry would be appropriate, would you consider a recruitment?) Yes, now many top artists who are publicly recognized as good actors come from recruitment. So it would be a possibility."

The film will start production in July, then to other locations in Shanxi.

Veteran artist Kenneth Tsang Kong passed away at a hotel last month at ge 87. Tsang Kong's family two days ago held a low key funeral at a church. After the services ended, the remains were transported to the crematorium. Friends like Wu Fung and Helen Ma sorrowfully sent their late friend off on his final journey.

Tsang Kong's daughter Tsang Mo Suet followed Papa's wishes and held a low profile funeral. The service was Catholic, the hall was simply and cleanly decorated. Widow Chiao Chiao and daughter Tsang Mo Suet arrived early on to watch over the affair. Only few close family and friends attended. Artists like Wu Fung, Helen Ma, Tsang's second wife Tang Kung Pik and Yuen Su Fai came to bid their old friend farewell. The service ended after half a hour, as its the cremation ceremony. When Wu Fung and Helen Ma left they embraced Chiao Chiao to comfort her. Tsang Mo Suet was more calm. Although she did not accept any television interview, she said to the media, "Thank you very much."

Workers posted the news of the farewell ceremony on Tsang Kong's social media accounts. "Mr. Tsang, today was your farewell ceremony. After this we won't see each other again, for the rest of our lives we would be without you. You would rest in peace forever and we would miss you forever. My most respected Mr. Tsang Kong, have a safe journey. You once said, your life was well lived. May you be the same way in Heaven. Countless words left unsaid, we are grateful for you!" The post had a photo of two hands holding a candle, as well as a photo of Tsang Kong standing next to his funeral photo at the altar. The caption said, "This was a photo of Mr. Tsang from 5 years ago, Mr. Tsang at the time said to take a photo to remember the occasion." Tsang Kong was obviously very open minded and had no taboo at all.

Helen Ma after attending the funeral early yesterday morning posted Tsang Kong's final photo. "Without reluctance i sent Big Brother (Tsang Kong) off on his final journey. Everyone is lining up to go, you just went first. See you again in another world in the future."
