Commercial Radio Ultimate Song Chart Awards took place on New Year's Day. Hacken Lee Hak Kun who has had no lucky with the Ultimate awards struck strongly this year, as he won his first Ultimate Music Male Singers gold prize and Ultimate Music Ultimate Song award in 30 years. Inevitably he got sentimental when he accepted the awards, as he tearfully thanked his mentor and friend Alan Tam Wing Lun, "I believe you would be happy for me!"

The 2017 Ultimate Song Chart Awards last night presented 43 awards. With 30 years in the business Lee Hak Kun this year has swept across many award shows to become the big winner this year. In the past Ultimate Awards usually brushed him by. This year he finally broke through with Ultimate Music Male Singer gold prize and Ultimate Music Ultimate Song award, the "first time" for Hacken Lee after waiting for 30 years.

Hacken inevitably got sentimental on the stage. When DJ Donald and Jim brought up his past "suit comment", he got teary eyed as he stared at the award, shook his head and sighed. Hacken compared this time to the Oscars. "Some singers would be nominated every year and would win every other year like Meryl Streep. Some people are always nominated but the award always brushes them by. Leonardo DiCaprio was nominated for years and finally was recognized with an award. I of course know I am not Leonardo. I am more like Clint Eastwood. No one would remember that he has won or now, but winning the Male Singer gold prize at this age would probably be worth everyone's applause! Thank you!" He stated that he never wanted to be the ultimate in music, he only wanted to be a good friend to everyone. He asked everyone not be to scared off by his arrogant expression, he was full of passion and sentiment inside.

Having been in the top three Ultimate Music Female Singer for 17 years straight, Joey Yung Cho Yi finally broke the streak as Janice Vidal (Wai Lan) won her first gold prize. Silver and bronze prizes went to Gin Lee Hung Ngai and Ivana Wong Yuen Chi. Wai Lan said that she waited for this award for 12 years. She thanked her father, sister Jill (Wai Sze) and former boss Leon Lai Ming.

Jason Chan Pak Yu defeated the two year winner James Ng Yip Kwan to win "My Favorite Male Singer". He won two awards. The always cool Pak Yu got teary eyed and thanked his wife Leanne Fu Hiu Mei. "My old lady every year would tell me it doesn't matter, 'It doesn't matter that everyone misses out, you are already the favorite male singer of my heart!' Thank you Old Lady!"

In terms of quantity, the band Supper Moment was the big winner with 3 awards. The pre race online favorite Hubert Wu Hung Kwan went home empty handed.

This year is Ultimate's 30th anniversary, the theme of which is "Reminiscing for Tomorrow". Bands Supper Moment and Chockukmo opened the show. Soon Nicholas Tse Ting Fung made a surprise appearance on the stage. He in a casual look performed JADE BUTTERFLY, WITH FIRE and LIVING VIVA as the audience stood up and screamed like mad.

The last time Ting Fung appeared at an award show as the 2005 Metro Mandarin Power Award. 13 years later, Ting Fung dropped his spatula for an electric guitar. Although the sound system malfunctioned and his guitar did not make a sound, Ting Fung was not only in a great mood but also comforted the audience. "This is live!" After his performance Ting Fung embraced the two bands' lead vocalists and said, "From this moment on, reminisce for tomorrow!" Ting Fung will fly to Beijing for his new record press conference and release new songs later.

Eason Chan Yik Shun has not attended an award show in years. Last night he appeared as a guest performer. With Jan Lamb Hoi Fung's narration, Eason performed classic hits like MY HAPPY AGE, ONE AND ONLY, TOURBILLON to bring together the classic scenes from 30 years of the Ultimate Awards.

Charmaine Fong Ho Man announced earlier that she was over 3 months pregnant on social media. Yesterday she appeared in public for the first time but still wore 4 inch heels to the awards. The DJs joked that they had to arrange a "priority seat" for her. When she accepted her award DJs came to lend her a hand and congratulated her on double happiness.

at17 put a photo from early in their career on their clothes to commemorate their 15th anniversary in the business. This was also their first Ultimate Top Ten song award.

Phil Lam Yik Hong received the Ultimate Creative Singer gold prize. He said that after 8 years in the business the award this year was particularly meaningful. Actually he did not pick up his Hong Kong permanent resident identity card officially until this year. He said, "Many singers say getting on this stage is very hard, and indeed it is; because in the first few years I didn't even have Hong Kong residency. I constantly had to get visas. This year I finally get to accept this award as a Hong Konger. I am very proud to be a Hong Konger. I hope to keep writing good songs for everyone."

When Alfred Hui Ting Hung received the Ultimate Top Ten second place, he could not stop sobbing. Friends Ng Yip Kwan and Joyce Cheng Yun Yi immediately embraced them to comfort him.

When Alfred accepted the award, he spoke as he cried. This actually was already the fourth year in a row that Alfred broke down at the Ultimate Song Chart Awards.

[2018.01.01] ANTHONY WONG TRIES TO TOUGH OUT THE COLD

courtesy of on.cc

Best Actor Anthony Wong Chau Sun earlier went to England to work on a series. After returning to Hong Kong he immediately jumped into the new film production LUN LOK YUN (FALLEN PEOPLE). Earlier he and Sam Lee Chan Sam worked on location at a Oi Man Estate park. He played a stroke patient and sat in a wheelchair for the entire shoot.

Chau Sun was in short sleeves and worked on a chat scene with Lee Chan Sam. The temperature was only 13 or 14 degrees Celsius. In a wheelchair Chau Sun was shivering from the cold as he often covered his chest with his arms and rubbed them to keep warm. After over a hour he rushed into a big coat to keep warm.

Later Chau Sun and Lee Chan Sam worked on a chess scene. He and the crew studied the script and watched playback. His nose was running and he needed tissue. Chau Sun said that although it was cold, he was still able to take it. Lee Chan Sam said, "Earlier we shot a bathing scene with Chau Sun, that day was even colder."

[2018.01.01] SANDRA NG IS NOT DISAPPOINTED WITH HER HONG KONG BOX OFFICE

Sandra Ng Kwan Yu yesterday attended the audience appreciation event at a Mongkok cinema for her directing debut GOLDBUSTER (YIU LING LING). Kwan Yu said, "The movie made over 200 million at the Mainland box office, but not so good at the Hong Kong box office. So I have to promote." She also said that she was not disappointed. She already felt very lucky about the Mainland box office success.

To promote the new film, Kwan Yu revealed that she has gone to a dozen Mainland cities for two weeks straight and over 100 cinemas. She often forgot where she lay her head down. Hong Kong would be the final stop. Due to all the traveling she did not feel well. Later she would rest.

Speaking of the box office, Kwan Yu said that the film made over 200 million in the Mainland but not as well in Hong Kong. Everyone might feel that was normal, perhaps due to fewer cinema circuits and a lot of blockbuster releases. She could only do as much as she could. Would she not arrange for a major slot release next time? Kwan Yu said, "Originally I plan for a Ghost Festival release but I couldn't finish it in time. Maybe everyone was used to watching foreign films at Christmas and Hong Kong films at Lunar New Year. It's fate and luck, you can't say for sure. (Are you disappointed?) No because the Mainland opening box office was great. As a 'Chicken Little' director I already feel very lucky, OK, I passed."

As for her second film, she said that she would have to rest a little first. She had to wait for inspiration and keep an eye on the market. Did her daughter act up because she was busy with work? She said, "I told her 'Mommy would be with you after today.' She rolled her eye and said, 'Today is the last day'. (Her wit is quicker than yours?) I hope so, because Ma's quick wit is starting to slow."

Kwan Yu yesterday gave everyone blessing yesterday at the movies as her character Sister Ling. She said, "The audience is very passionate and very pleased, only my daughter feels that my character isn't ugly enough. I am a great beauty, next time I will tell her to play it. She can play ugly herself, but her acting is......ha ha."

Yesterday (December 30th) was the 14th anniversary of the superstar of a generation Anita Mui Yim Fong's passing. Mui fans two nights ago remembered their idol in different ways, watching Ah Mui's films, paying their respect at Ah Mui's spirit tablet at the Shang Sin Chun Tong, presenting flowers at Ah Mui's statue in Tsim Sha Tsui, as time has not eased how much they missed their idol. Ah Mui's mother Tam Mei Kam two nights ago went to the movies to watch her daughter's film KAWASHIMA YOSHIKO. She said that she missed her daughter very much, sometimes she would see her when she would be half awaken. Someone also said that Ah Mui has become the god daughter of the Goddess of Mercy, which put her at ease.

Ah Mui's fan organization Mui Nation two nights ago held a screening of KAWASHIMA YOSHIKO at a Central cinema. The 94 year old Mother Mui came with clutches. She said earlier she injured her right left from a fall. Her son Mui Kai Ming was unable to accompany her due to knee pain. Mother Ma admitted that she has not attended an event in a long time. Normally when she went out for tea she would need a wheelchair. She would stay home and play mahjong; this time she came not only to be a part of the crowd but also took the opportunity to enjoy this movie again. The last time she saw this movie was years ago and forgot a lot of it.

Did she still miss Ah Mui? Mother Mui said, "I miss her so much that I don't! It's been so many years, occasionally when I am half awake I would see her. I know that she told my doctor and friends to take care of me; someone also told me that they saw Ah Mui practicing next to the Goddess of Mercy and learned that she was the Goddess' god daughter. Thus I am very at ease."

Yesterday a big group of fans went to Ah Mui's spiritual tablet at the Shang Sin Chun Tong in Kowloon Tong. Fans prepared their idol's favorite custard tart, honey cake, sushi and other food. Six floral arrangements from fans were placed under the altar. Some fans also went to Ah Mui's spiritual tablet at the Lautau Island.

At 5 PM, a dozen or so Mui fans went to present flowers at her statue in Tsim Sha Tsui, prayed and took photos to remember their idol. During the group photo, the presence of 14 fans was the same number as how many years since Ah Mui passed. Two fans from Beijing said that they have been fans for 7 years and praised how Ah Mui lived was worth learning from, with her kind and helpful heart. The most memorable for them was Ah Mui's 2003 farewell concert, which they constantly watched again and again; they also liked her performance in the films KAWASHIMA YOSHIKO and WU YAN.

The Anita Mui International Fan Club president Ms. So took part in the planning of the film screening of ROUGE, which took part at one of the film's location -- under the Shek Tong Tsui overpass. Over 200 Mui fans attended. Ms. So said that they applied for the outdoor screening with the government. Although it was the first, she felt that holding it at this location had special meaning. They also received the assistance from many volunteers, thus they did not spend much on preparation. Next year would be the 15th anniversary of Ah Mui's passing. They had plans for other events but no format has been set.

ROUGE's director Stanley Kwan Kam Peng also attended. "I felt that she never left, only immigrated to a very faraway place. She hardly ever came back. This film made everyone remember Ah Mui and (Leslie) Cheung Kwok Wing, they would always remind in everyone's hearts." He recalled that back then Ah Mui was very serious and in character. He said that Ah Mui had a lot of natural talent and organization abilities, as she was able to gather all workers to watch playback together.
