THE BOLD, THE CORRUPT, AND THE BEAUTIFUL's Kara Wai Ying Hung and LOVE
EDUCATION's Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga); 29+1 also won the Chinese
Film Best Adapted Screenplay (Kearen Pang Sau Wai).
The Gordon Award is a Taiwan film critic organized award.
Sister Na was very happy to learn that she won Best Actress. It
was a recognition and an encouragement from everyone of her performance.
She said that she was very lucky to have the chance to play this
character. This award increased her confidence in the Hong Kong Film
Awards. She said that if she will receive a nomination, she will buy a
new car as a gift to herself.

Shaw film star Ching Li passed away on December 9th at age
72. Yesterday services were held at the Po Fook memorial hall in Sha
Tin. The funeral will take place today at noon and the remains will be
transported to the Fu Shan Crematorium. Yesterday Ching Li's former
husband Philip Tse paid his respect, as well as Ching Li's co-stars,
Tommy Tam (Ti Lung) and John Chiang Dai Wai, friend Helen Ma Hoi Lun,
Kenneth Tsang Kong and his wife Chiao Chiao, Candy Man Suet Yee and Lee
Muk. Helen Ma broke down in tears as she remembered her friend.
The hall was decorated in white. The photo was a black and white
photo of Ching Li in her youth. Two floral arrangements, from her son Ka
Ming and daughter in law Hui Mei Kei and daughter Ka Kwan, wre placed
underneath. 4 black and white photos of Ching Li were placed by
reception for guests. "Mama has always hoped that everyone would remember
her young and beautiful side, so today no viewing will be held. We hope
that every beloved family member and friend would always remember her
beautiful smile."
Ching Li's friend Ma Hoi Lun got emotional when she saw Ching Li's
photo. Ching Li's former husband Philip came to bid her farewell. Ma Hoi
Lun embraced him and again broke down. When asked if she really missed
her friend, Ma Hoi Lun tearfully said, "We have known each other since we
were teenagers, I was her bridesmaid at her wedding. I miss you. However
at this age, there is nothing I can do. Many friends have left! I hope
to see them again in another world. She is looking for a place for us to
play and act together again in the future." Earlier she went to Fo Guang
Shan to pray for Ching Li. She said that Ching Li was a happy soul,
wherever she was there was joy and cheer.
She revealed that Friends of Shaw would meet every year. Ching
Li rarely came later due to her illness. She said, "She was really vain,
she didn't want people to see her not so pretty side. I told her she
was pretty in her own way at old age. When she was ill she still was very
pretty. She was very peaceful and very pretty when she passed, only a
little frail."
Speaking of Ching Li's former husband, Ma Hoi Lun said that Philip
was great as he has always taken care of Ching Li. As for Ching Li's
supposed regret that she had a flawed marriage, Ma Hoi Lun said, "It's
nothing like that. You can't ask for a lot of things. She was very
famous in film, and she had children. What's the big deal about a little
flaw?"
Ti Lung who worked with Ching Li the most said, "Ching Li came
from Taiwan for work. Her father was also in the business, so she came
from a show business family. She learned a lot from her. She had great
performing art skill, she was low key and was not flashy. She was a
successful person."

According to the Hong Kong Box Office Co. Ltd, the 2017
Hong Kong film total box office was HK$ 1,853,957,566, a drop of 4.81%
from 2016's HK$ 1,947,596,448. Last year among the highest grossing Hong
Kong films, in first place was LOVE OFF THE CUFF (CHUN GIU GAU JI MING)
with a cumulative box office of HK$ 30,256,619; in second place was SHOCK
WAVE (CHAK DAN JUEN GA) with HK$ 25,360,088, in third place was JOURNEY TO
THE WEST: THE DEMONS STRIKE BACK with HK$ 23,634,946.
As for the highest grossing non Hong Kong films, on top was the
live action version of BEAUTY AND THE BEAST with a cumulative box office
of HK$ 67,232,357. In second place was SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING. In third
place was THOR: RAGNOROK. In tenth place LOGAN made HK$ 38,540,970, even
higher than LOVE OFF THE CUFF's box office.

Leon Lai Ming's directing debut WINE WAR (CHEUNG HUNG)
will open on the 18th. First time director Lai Ming of course would want
his film to be its best. To be able to complete such a multiple country
treasure hunt and gun fight film, Lai Ming once said, "Because I have
worked with many excellent directors before, I accumulated a lot of
experience. Today I am able to have this chance to make a movie that I
feel particularly interested in. I couldn't do it without a group of
great actors and crew to complete this matter." He asked popular Mainland
actors to star and at the same time paid close attention to all the
production problems of the film. The strong crew also solidified the
film's high quality. Speaking of Lai Ming's directing debut, producer
Huang Jianxin's evaluation of him was, "He doesn't resemble a first time
director, instead he resembles a professional director more. His demands
on the set are very detailed, each shot has to be its best."
For his first film as director, of course he was highly demanding
but at the same time he did not lose his sense of humor. Although the
scenes were thrilling and the mystery intriguing, he did not forget the
comedy. He did not waste his nature humor gene at all. Lai Ming and
Zhang Hanyu both had heavy comedic sense. To promote the film, Zhang
Hanyu and Lai Ming even sang the film song BIG BABY in hopes of bringing
the audience a Happy New Year.

MOMENT (NGOR DIK CHING DIK NUI SAI) played Carina Lau Ka Ling's daughter
Ka Kei and again became the bright spot of a film. One scene was even
shot on the Lunar July 14th "Ghost Festival" in an old building. In the
story Alex Fong Lik Sun and Wong Yuen Chi dressed up to create a scary
atmosphere to frighten away tenants who would not move. They appeared as
a vampire and a ghost doll, with horror film mainstays ghost king Simon
Louie Yu Yeung and dragon granny Helena Law Lan. Wong Yuen Chi gave her
all for the film as she jumped off a building. She not only had to dress
up but also had wire work. In addition, both Fong Lik Sun and Stephy Tang
Lai Yun guest starred in this film.
