The Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actor Lo Hoi Pang two nights ago celebrated with his fellow ENJOY YOURSELF TONIGHT alumni.  Attendees included Ng Lai Chu, Mak King Ting, Yu Mo Lin, Liu On Lai, Liu Kai Chi and Chan Man Yi, Felix Wong Yat Wa and Leung Kit Wa.  Brother Pang's often co-star Meg Lam Kin Ming even brought two bottles of red wine to congratulate him.

Brother Pang after winning the award earlier immediately returned to Zhuhai for Johnnie To Kei Fung's new film.  At the time To Sir already treated him to dinner.  After that Brother Pang also celebrated with his family.  His grandson even played with the award at his home.  As for everyone calling him the light of EYT, Brother Pang humbly said, "No, Chi Jai won it a long time ago.  However we are the artist training class' five most famous, including Chow Yun Fat, Ng Man Tat, (Ringo) Lam Lan Tung, Ng Yun Chuen and me.  The earlier ones all won awards already.  Ng Yun Chuen went behind the scene, leaving only me.  I thought I had no chance left, but then they gave it to me too.  (After the award do you have more film offers?)  It's always been around the same, the problem is whether I want to or not.  I just want to have a little fun.  (Will you get a raise?)  Don't say that, what would the raise be for?  How much can it go up?  However some outside the film industry like READERS' DIGEST dragged me to present awards, and more people ask me for interviews."

Brother Pang on the award night said that he would visit Best Supporting Actress So Hung Suen but so far he still has not have the time.  Sister Suen reportedly lost a toe to diabetes, Brother Pang said, "She didn't pay attention to her diabetes!  I have had diabetes since 1987 but I know to keep an eye on myself, I don't dare to eat much rice.  All along I was able to control the condition, otherwise I might have complications that would be hard to handle.  Several of my friends got 'nailed' that way."  He said, a long time ago he saw Sister Suen at a film promotion.  At the time she was already very thin and had no energy when she spoke.  However he did not know whether she had diabetes or another illness.  Brother Pang said, "Don't think you would be fine just because you are vegetarian."  Aside from controlling his condition with medication he also watched his diet.  No matter how delicious the food was he would only have a little more than half a bowl of rice.

In addition, a magazine caught Brother Pang with a woman.  He asked, "Is she really a woman!  (You were caught going to a coffee shop?)  No.  Sometimes viewers would come over.  This stuff is very casual, even
so it wouldn't stir up too many waves!"

A friend of Jacqueline Law Wai Guen, Liu On Lai said about Sister Guen's condition, "She is great, she is fine.  (She was rumored to be hospitalized?)  She has always been in and out of the hospitals because she needed scheduled appointments.  I don't know why such rumors would surface.  (Did Sister Guen mind?)  I don't know if she minds or not but as a friend hearing such information I would be worried.  However she is
amazing, very positive.  For anyone with a religious belief they can pray for her."

Liu On Lai also praised Brother Pang as the light of EYT.  Although she rarely acted anymore, if she had a chance she would like to again because she would be very happy at work.

[2012.05.04] ANGELABABY BLAMES BAD TAKES ON HER BAD KISSING

courtesy of takungpao.com

The Angelababy and Mark Chao (Chiu Yau Ting) starred romantic tear jerker FIRST TIME's music video KEEP SMILING OK? premiered.  Two leads under the Jay Chou (Chow Kit Lun) created song had seven bad takes to complete a kiss scene.  After completing this seaside loving kiss even Baby joked with Chiu Yau Ting, "Did you pay off the director?"

Baby said, "Although it was a kiss scene, it was a very innocent kiss.  However such a simple looking scene took seven takes.  This kiss scene was even our first scene of the shoot, so before the shoot I was a little nervous.  However I never thought to kiss Chiu Yau Ting seven times before meeting the director's demand, ha!  Actually our kissing was so poor."  Chiu Yau Ting before the shoot was fully prepared as he brought a toothbrush.  He said, "Actually the shoot was a little embarrassing, but as a man I should be even more magnanimous.  I have to let myself go, then Baby would be more relaxed."

In the music video Chiu Yau Ting and Baby's romantic scenes took the lead, with many seaside biking, playing at an amusement park, dancing in an alley, drifting snow scenes.  Baby's gentle singing that was full of
emotions brought viewers into the visuals and the film as everyone tasted the first love perfection together.  Jay Chou and Vincent Fang Wen-shan tailored this theme song for Angelababy.

Aaron Kwok Fu Sing in the film FLOATING CITY (FAU SING) played Tanka.  Because he was unwilling to spend his life on a fishing boat like the generations before him and had no idea when he would return from taking a risk at sea, he finally decided to try his luck on shore and changed his fate.  Yet he went too fast while his wife Charlie Yeung Choi Nei remained where she was.  The distance between them grew further as
Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau) appeared around him.  Choi Nei played the role from her 20s to her 60s, Sing Sing thought Choi Nei's biggest sacrifice was making her skin darker and rougher.  At first glimpse even he was surprised.

Sing Sing said that not only director Yim Ho was demanding but also the most difficult was speaking Tanka.  Although he had a translator on the set, digesting on the spot was hard.  Long dialogue along with emotional performance was truly very hard to handle, luckily they got through it without too many bad takes as he met his own demands.  As for playing an old character, Sing Sing revealed that the make up was not deliberately exaggerated.  It was an spiritual old.  The most successful was the scene in which he and Choi Nei were at their oldest.

Choi Nei said that back then women at sea all listened to their men and silently supported their husbands.  Her character was even deaf.  Sing Sing joked, "Take a look at me and you know, every time when you ask something that is unrelated I become deaf -- intermittent hearing loss."  Choi Nei continued that in order to experience hearing loss for awhile she wore ear plugs.  At her most exaggerated she even wore them outside and on a flight.  Originally she would get frustrated when she could not hear the volume and did not want to speak.  She became lonely and was only willing to live in her own world.  Thus she experienced how old people felt when their hearing deteriorated.  She was sympathetic and her heart ached.

Choi Nei caught attention after working on an ad with Sing Sing and got into the business.  Earlier they worked together on AFTER THIS OUR EXILE (FU JI).  Years later, Choi Nei thought Sing Sing was more mature than before but still was able to maintain his childlike innocence.  In particular he had a lot of fun with the crew.  For such a sunny person to play a character who was tangled in pain, she understood why Sing Sing chose to be a happy person off screen.  She said that she seemed to be flipping through Sing Sing's diary.  Has she flipped through his love diary?  She said that when Sing Sing wanted her to she would.

The film's subject was very similar to the overseas award winning ECHOES OF THE RAINBOW (SHUI YUET SUN TAU).  Did they want the film to win as well?  Sing Sing said that an actor could only help the director fulfill one of the drams.  This time the story background was memories of the colonial era to introduce to a new generation that Hong Kong was just a fishing harbor back then and how times changed.  He said, "My character isn't a biological son, but (the film) is about how the biological mother isn't as great as the adoptive mother.  The film will open on Mother's Day, a perfect salute to the respected mothers."

[2012.05.04] CHIK MEI CHUN HELPS STEPHEN CHOW'S START

courtesy of takungpao.com

Chik Mei Chun recently appeared on a cable program and discussed her artist training class days.  She also appreciated running into her benefactor Ng Yu who approached her about a variety program; Ah Chik after graduation very quickly had a chance to play the female lead, but she remembered once when she was an "extra".

Ah Chik recalled, "Back then for THE SHELL GAME (CHIN WONG JI WONG), in one scene I played Fat Gor (Chow Yun Fat)'s secretary and had no line.  That day the notice was for 9AM.  I went to the dressing room on time for make up and hair, then I sat and waited there until 3AM!"  At the time she was still new, of course she did not dare to make any noise.  Even when she ate she did not dare to take too long as she was afraid that they could not find her.  Finally even the lady at the dressing room could not help but ask the drama team for her, only then did they discover that she waited for an entire day.  Soon she finally took her mark.  Ah Chik also praised Fat Gor for being quite a gentleman, an elder who took great care of his junior colleague.

Ah Chik even revealed that she lived in the same neighborhood as Stephen Chow Sing Chi and Tony Leung Chiu Wai, their enrollment in the artist training class was also related to her.  Ah Chik said, "I was the first one to apply.  They saw how happy I was with it and I asked them to apply as well."  She said that Sing Yeh has liked kung fu since he was little and had quite a sense of humor.  At first when the artist training class's instructor Lau Fong Kong was hesitating about accepting Sing Yeh, Ah Chik spoke on his behalf and pointed out all of Sing Yeh's positive points to him.  Finally the instructor accepted him.  Later when Sing Yeh found out he thanked her.  However she felt that his success today was completely due to his own abilities.

[2012.05.02] AARON KWOK PRAISES ANNIE LIU'S BEAUTY

Aaron Kwok Fu Sing, Annie Liu (Lau Sum Yau), Paw Hee Ching, Calvin Cheng Ka Sing and others yesterday appeared in Sai Kung to promote their new film FLOATING CITY (FAU SING) and arranged for fishing boats to coordinate with the film subject.  Sing Sing revealed that this time he played a Tanka who grew up with Charlie Yeung Choi Nei.  Later he became her husband but also ran into an intellectual rich girl Sum Yau.  Thus in the film he had to learn Tanka and English, which he felt was challenging.  Sing Sing said, "In the film Charlie and I played from age 20 to 60, so we had to have an old look.  Yet mine wasn't the balding type, but a middle aged man who succeeded in his life struggles.  I would also have some wrinkles.  (Did you have any reaction?)  Luckily no because it wasn't in the summer.  Yet the make up removal alone took half an hour."

Sing Sing this time worked with Sum Yau for the first time and praised that she was a public recognized beauty.  In the film she thus caused a ripple in his heart.  Did he feel the same in real life?  Sing Sing first changed the subject to his bed scene with Charlie, but they only sat on the side of the bed.  Charlie lightly lay in his arms.  Was that intimate?  Sing Sing said, "To me it's very intimate.  (Did you have any ripple in reality?)  No, I only focused on work.  I didn't think about anything else.  Everyone know about me!  (They know that you are romantic?)  You are referring to the movie.  I properly focused on work, I take relationships slowly!"  Sing Sing also stressed that even in the film he in the end still chose Charlie the wife he went through hardships with.  Would he be just as faithful in real life?  Sing Sing said, "Everyone needs to be taken care of.  I have said that I would start a family, just not so soon.  I am not talking about my love life."

As for Sum Yau she said that the film will open simultaneously in Hong Kong and the Mainland simultaneously.  In the film she helped Sing Sing a lot in his career.  Their relationship was rather ambiguous. She would make her feelings known to him.  Did she have any such experience in real life?  Sum Yau said, "No, I feel it's an expression and not a show of love.  There are too many displays of love, some have expressed themselves to him though.  (Did you accept them?)  No, I like the naturally together type like a small but steady stream."  Sum Yau also said that she was strange, unless she was suddenly electrocuted love was like slow simmering soup, the longer it cooked the better it tasted.
