Lau Kar Leung almost lost his life for Tsui Hark's SEVEN SWORDS

Lau Kar Leung worked on his final film SEVEN SWORDS (CHUT GIM) with director Tsui Hark. Back then Master Lau returned for Tsui Hark and even served as chief action director despite being ill. When he shot on location in Tianshan he caught pneumonia and almost lost his life. Lau Kar Leung's attending physician Mok Shu Kam said that back then Master Lau went to Tianshan without his knowledge. Despite pneumonia he still insisted on performing. When he returned to Hong Kong he was "half dead" and needed a long time to recover.

Yesterday, Tsui Hark wrote an eulogy in memory of his colleague. Actually Master Lau's wish was to make a movie about Hung Kuen, unfortunately he was unable to fulfill it.

I have always looked forward to the Hung Kuen film that you wanted to make.

We are filmmakers who have followed your film footsteps to now,

your film vision and ideas provided us with far reaching influence and impression.

You are the martial art film as well as the martial world grand master of a generation.

Your passing, to us, is the fall of a superstar.

I remember when we were on location in Turpan, Xinjiang, I witnessed your tearfully lament of life because of the passing of Mr. James Wong Jim and Ms. Lam Bing.

Today, you have left us. To us it is also extremely painful and woeful.

Your brilliance will always shine in our hearts, your plans and everything have turned into memory that we extremely miss.

Master Lau, thank you for giving us warm memory of our growth in the Wong Fei Hung film series.

Thank you for displaying your beautiful abilities on the silver screen and opening our eyes.

Thank you for founding a strong and powerful martial art style for the film industry.

Thank you for using your film to bring us inspirations and excitement over the years.

[2013.06.27] LO HOI PANG SAYS THAT LAU KAR LEUNG IS ALREADY AILING SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR

Lo Hoi Pang yesterday attended a cable program taping. He said that he often had tea with Lau Kar Leung, but since the beginning of the year he has been ailing and thus no longer appeared. He called and sent his sympathy. Lo Hoi Pang said, "He told me to relax, and even said that he would see me later. Yet after that phone call, we never saw each other again. As people leave, sooner or later it will be my turn to go!"

Speaking of playing "Z.Y. Leung" in his new film TALES FROM THE DARK (MAI LEI YEH) for villain hitting, Lo Hoi Pang felt that director Fruit Chan Gor wanted to air some grievances on behalf of Hong Kongers through the character. He was not afraid of crossing anyone either.

Andy Lau Tak Wa and Sammi Cheng Sau Man yesterday promoted their film BLIND DETECTIVE (MAN TAM) in Singapore. Perhaps due to the heighten emotions from the Hong Kong premiere, they were in great spirits. Lau Tak Wa joked, "Many informants after watching the premiere reported to me, seemingly Sammi truly has a great chance to win Best Actress." Sammi humbly said, "I never thought about winning Best Actress, just concentrating on making a good movie is enough. The box office performance is also beyond my grasp. When viewers like the movie, I am already very happy." They performed the dance scene in the film again at the request of local media.

Cissy Wang yesterday attended a SK-II event and revealed that her husband Donnie Yen Chi Tan is very busy. He is preparing for the November production CHIU CUP YING HUNG (SUPER HERO) and several Hollywood films. She said, "I told him not to make foreign films. I am already very satisfied, I don't want him to work so hard. However he loves movies too much, when he has a good script and character he wants to work. He is a workaholic, he wants to break through his level. I told him, let it go, let other people do it!" Was making the American dollar bad? She joked that the American dollar is no match for RMB.

Was it because he had to work on foreign films he could not make IP MAN 3? Cissy denied that and said that the six month production period for the film company has passed. As for claims that Yen Chi Tan was asking for too much, she denied that Yen Chi Tan's salary was as much as 50 million. She joked that if his salary was so high, she would not have to work so hard. "It's not a salary issue. Some Hollywood film salaries are even higher, but he has to play a villain. He has quite a sense of justice so he turned it down." However, he felt that IP MAN film would be the best if it would be a collaboration with director Wilson Yip Wai Shun. Was he upset that Raymond Wong Pak Ming's son Edmond Wong Chi Hung would direct? She was unsure, in the end she felt that it had to be Yip Wai Shun's movie.

DaDa Chan Jing worked on a campaign for a slimming beauty company for the third year. This year she will not release any photo book. She admitted that photo book did not make as much money as acting. Earlier she won the Hong Kong Film Award Best Supporting Actress with VULGARIA (DAI JOOK HEI KET)'s "Popping Candy", but some felt that she did not rely on acting. They gave her pressure because her character stood out; she hoped to transition from playing sexy to relying on acting and receive recognition for it. However, she just guest starred in Pang Ho Cheung's new film and she still had to be sexy. The character was similar to "Popping Candy". "He said that it wasn't before, I was fooled. However it had some touching spots for balance." She would not mind being sexy if the role had potential. She revealed that later she will play a wife for the first time and she suggested for the film company to find a Korean hunk to play her husband.
