Taiwanese cheerleading goddess Mizuki Lin Xiang played the role of a new generation popular idol "Tung Tung" in the Wong Jing and Patrick Kong (Yip Lim Sum) directed Lunar New Year film QUEEN OF MAHJONG (MA JEUK NUI WONG JUI NAM JAI). She was full of passion for acting, playing the maniac actor "Brother Chin Hung" Carlos Chan Ka Lok's number one fan. "The role is rather similar to me, very much looking forward to work and also making a movie for the first time." Making a Hong Kong film for the first time, Lin Xiang found it to be a lot of fun. She admitted that she was worried about the language barrier at first, and could not communicate and play well with Hong Kong actors; but in front of and behind the scenes, directors, actors and staff were very enthusiastic and took great care of her, so she quickly integrated with the people and the role. "The director wanted me to be myself, a little more natural and did not ask me to perform in Cantonese."
Did she have intimate scenes in the film with Chan Ka Lok? Lin Xiang kept that secret. "The audience will find out when they go. I really like Brother Ka Lok's role in the film, very domineering and full of confidence. I like boys with a bit of a domineering style." Was Chan Ka Lok her "cup of tea"? She asked instead, "In the film or in reality? Isn't he married in real life? So it's not too convenient to answer." What was working with Chan Ka Lok like? Lin Xiang said, "He is very domineering in the film, and very funny outside the film. He makes everyone very happy, and has a kind of contrasting cuteness. I also like the way (Locker) Lam Ka Hei's performance method as the director. He is very interesting and relatable."
Lin Xiang thought that she had a sense of humor, but filming was different from variety shows. She also had to learn how to handle it when filming, and she admitted that she was a funny girl. "I am more funny, lively and informal. I dare not say that I am very interesting, because I am afraid that people will say that I am boring. People who know me well will see my crazy side, and I'm brave enough to play games on the show. Even if I get all muddy, I don't mind if they want me to be ugly either."
Lin Xiang said that she fell in love with filming after completing QUEEN OF MAHJONG. She hoped to have the opportunity to come to Hong Kong to make movies again in the future, starting with some small roles such as playing the heroine's best friend. "This time on the set, I learned from watching the actors to see how they explored the roles. I have learned a lot, so I would like to start from the sideline, slowly observe and learn." Is there a bottom line for performances? She said, "Ultimately I've just come in contact with movies, so it's hard to say what the bottom line is. It depends on the plot and the characters. I would also learn Cantonese, but I am not very talented with languages and Cantonese is difficult to learn." Would she meet a Hong Kong boyfriend? Lin Xiang said, "I have also heard that this is a very fast way to learn a language. I don't rule out meeting new friends, as long as the atmosphere and feeling are right." After she and Rakuten Monkeys player Ma Chieh Sen broke up last year she had no new romances. Was she dating? She said that she was currently focusing on work but would not rule out making friends of the opposite sex.
Lin Xiang revealed that every Lunar New Year she would rest to accompany her family, this year is no exception. She was usually busy, so often she would not see with her family. She would take advantage of the break to properly relax, recharge, and then charge ahead. This year she wished for health, peace and happiness.
