STILL HUMAN (LUN LOK YUN) director Oliver Chan Siu Kuen's second feature film MONTAGES OF A MODERN MOTHERHOOD (FU DUK BUT) was selected for the 2024 Taipei Golden Horse Film Festival and had its premiere in the Chinese-speaking region. The leads Hedwig Tam Sin Yin and Siuyea Lo Chun Yip recently went to Taipei to interact with the audience. MONTAGES won the "NETPAC Award" from the film festival yesterday. The jury described the film as an intimate and gender-political perspective that unreservedly presented the motherhood experience of contemporary women. Despite witnessing the protagonist going through all kinds of hardships, viewers could still see the creator with the gentle perspective soothing every tired soul.
Tam Sin Yin and Lo Chun Yip were so surprised at the moment when MONTAGES was nominated as the award winner, and they could not react for a long time. Tam Sin Yin could not hide her nervousness. She expressed her gratitude repeatedly and invited everyone while watching the movie to learn about motherhood from it. "Especially for new mothers, what they have to face turns out to be such a 'journey of hell.'" Director Chan Siu Kuen expressed her sincere gratitude, "While researching for the film, I saw a post on the Internet asking, 'What pains are difficult for people who have never experienced it to understand?' Among the many answers was 'becoming a mother'. Therefore, it may not be easy to understand a film that focuses entirely on the pain of motherhood. The Golden Horse Film Festival jury's recognition of MONTAGES OF A MODERN MOTHERHOOD is a great encouragement to our team." MONTAGES OF A MODERN MOTHERHOOD was not nominated for this year's Golden Horse Awards. Wen Tien-Hsiang, CEO of the Golden Horse Executive Committee, mentioned MONTAGES OF A MODERN MOTHERHOOD's Tam Sin Yin, A JOURENY IN SPRING's Yang Kuei-Mei, TRUE LOVE, FOR ONCE IN MY LIFE (CHIN CHIN SHUI YUET)'s Cecilia Yip Tung and PAVANE FOR AN INFANT's Fish Liew Chi Yu among the Best Actress omitted gems.
