One of the founders of the film company Cinema City, Dean Shek Tin (originally named: Lau Wai Sing) passed away from cancer at the end of October. Raymond Wong Pak Ming said that Shek Tin's son Dickson confirmed the news. Wong Pak Ming said, "I knew he had cancer, I didn't ask what kind but I knew his condition was rather serious. He was ill a few years go but he recovered, only for it to return recently. In August I contacted him on WhatsApp. At the time he was at the hospital. He said, 'When I recover I am going for tea with you.' Unfortunately we would no longer have a chance at tea."

Wong Pak Ming said that Shek Tin's two sons returned to Hong Kong to be with their father. Because Shek Tin hoped to have a low key funeral, his family did not spread the news. His former Cinema City colleagues and friends also respected Shek Tin's wishes and have not planned any memorial event.

Actor, director and producer Shek Tin made many positive contributions to the Hong Kong film industry. In the 60s he joined Shaw's Nan Kuo Experimental Drama Troupe as a student, until the late 60s when he officially joined Shaw's as an actor. He took part in films like YOUNG LOVERS, THE SINGING KILLER, and DARK SEMESTER.

After leaving Shaw's, in 70s aside from working with Sam Hui Koon Kit in GAMES GAMBLERS PLAY and THE LAST MESSAGE he also worked with Jackie Chan in movies like SNAKE IN THE EAGLE'S SHADOW and DRUNKEN MASTER -- both became Chan's claim to fame. He participated in and created A BETTER TOMORROW film series. In A BETTER TOMORROW 2 he played Ti Lung's mentor Lung Sei. Film fanatics' deepest impression of Shek Tin was when he started working behind the scenes in the 80s and founded Cinema City with Karl Maka, Wong Pak Ming and others. He, Karl Maka, Shi Nansun, Wong Pak Ming, Teddy Robin Kwan, Eric Tsang Chi Wai and Tsui Hark made up the "Cinema City Strange Seven" and produced many Hong Kong films, created many classic films like the ACES GO PLACES films, LAUGHING TIMES, THE CHINESE GHOST STORY films and others. In LAUGHING TIMEs he impersonated Charlie Chaplin. With his excellent and precise acting, he was spot on as he became a very popular comedy actor at the time. Shek Tin once was known as the "Hong Kong Charlie Chaplin". Later the Cinema City release A BETTER TOMORROW even became a forever classic Hong Kong film with far reaching influence on the Hong Kong film industry.

Shek Tin after playing Uncle Choi in the film THE RAID in 1991 left the film industry for business, as he stepped foot in real estate and financial investments. In 2016 he at the invitation of Sammo Hung Kam Bo participated in the film THE BODYGUARD, which was also his final film. In 2017 at the Hong Kong Film Awards, the Cinema City Strange Seven (aside from the absent Tsui Hark) reunited and became the focus on the event that year. Now the one of the seven passed away, it became another regret.

[2021.11.03] ANITA MUI'S CHARITY FOUNDATION RAISED OVER HK$ 10 MILLION

Anthony Lun Wing Leung and the "Anita Mui True Heart Charity Foundation" chair So Choi Kit Lin yesterday attended a press conference to announce that the November 11th ANITA charity film screening would donate some of its proceeds to Healthy Hong Kong's Chinese medicine service. Eric Tsang Chi Wai, Ho Lai Chuen, William So Wing Hong, Nancy Sit Ka Yin and others have been invited to attend and show their support.

So Choi Kit Lin said that although Mui Yim Fong has left everyone for over a decade, the foundation was still operating in a low key manner and continued to raise over HK$ 10 million in donation. She even shared that strength and weakness of Sister Mui's personality. She pointed out that Sister Mui was a natural born performer on the stage. Loving and loyal, she put love above all else. Once she kept raising her hand at an auction to bid for a watch, as she had her heart set on giving it to her then boyfriend. She also saw that Sister Mui while in Canada learned about a Chinatown female newspaper stand owner's cancer and personally had lunch with her to fulfill her wish. However Sister Mui was too much of a perfectionist. When performing at a senior home she was still so nervous that she had leg cramps. In addition Sister Mui was too trusting, also due to her fame she had difficulty with finding a companion.

Lun Wing Leung said that during the pandemic he improved himself and studied Buddhism, which he said more or less was due to Sister Mui's influence. Early on she already introduced him to Buddhism. Lun Wing Leung has not performed since working with the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra two years ago. He admitted that he would like to perform a concert gain, but first he would like to release his new songs online. Ah Chung shared some funny videos from them on social media. In the first one they were heading to a cinema on the streets of Tsim Sha Tsui. Chrissie pretended to be a fan and screamed, "Are you Cheung Kai Chung?" Then Ah Chung struck back, "Would you excuse us, Chau Sau Na is here! Chau Sau Na is patrolling Tsim Sha Tsui! Great!" In the second post they sat on the stairway. "The break room that the organizer arranged for us before going to thank the audience, great". The background of the photos was a stairway with hanging under shirt and junk. Some online said that the "break room" arrangement was too disrespectful. Ah Chung clarified, "As soon as we went out we were already at the cinema door, the crew took great care of us."

In the final post Sister Na gave Ah Chung a leg massage. "Lately I have been working on fight scenes, my feet are so tired that they are useful. Chrissie and my manager are giving me a massage. Who can ask for more!" The four handed massage however drew envy from Kay Tse On Kay, "Poor baby you didn't say anything about how severe a condition the leg were in, I actually know some ancient treatment. After work you can try it when you come home." Some online joked, "The massage would be useful, when you get home you still have to kneel on glass."

New Macau female director Emily Chan Nga Lei directed and wrote the Louis Cheung Kai Chung and Chrissie Chau Sau Na starred film MADALENA. Cheung Kai Chung played the divorced taxi driver "MADA" and Chau Sau Na played the hard working single parent laborer "LENA", who ran into each other in Macau in the love story. Chan Nga Lei took five years from writing the script to starting production. During the script writing process she experienced the entire painful journey of being proposed to, waiting for a wedding date but knowing he was not the one.

Chan Nga Lei while writing the script ran into the "29+1" important age for women, but also the painful condition of being proposed to by the "wrong one". From that she understood only by learning to let go would she be able to have true love. She said, "After finishing the script, I already let go! I started a new relationship and he treats me well without condition. Then we even got married and had a daughter. From when I started to write the script to the production, coincidentally I experienced a romantic setback. In the end I got a happy ending. So everyone would see that when the film started MADA and LENA gave a very pessimistic impression, slowly they had romantic element and in the end they would have an Easter egg 'dessert'! Originally it actually isn't there, but both Cheung Kai Chung and Goo Jai (Louis Koo Tin Lok) it's necessary! I also feel there is a variety of viewers, so I choose the Easter egg 'dessert' to appear in the second half to give people the impression of two different choices. I think I want to bring out the message that no matter how poor the environment is, actually as long as you have faith you would still have a chance to start over."

Although Cheung Kai Chung's image has always been comedic, this time in the film he was very serious. He was not even half comedic, the contrast was rather enormous. Chan Nga Lei said that early in the script the male lead was an older man in the 50's, but the producer and the investor suggested why not choose the younger actor Cheung Kai Chung. She immediately became awake. "I feel Cheung Kai Chung is a very hard working actor, with great luck with the audience. If I ask him to perform it would be a work of transition. For a director it would be very challenging and very fun. Instead his addition made the matter even better."

As for the lead actress Chau Sau Na, actually Chan Nga Lei contacted her three years before. However the production did not start until three years later. She recalled when she brought her second draft to meet Sister Na for the first time, she really liked the story. "As soon as Sister Na sat down she said, 'You are a Macau director! Why would you ask me?' She liked the story so she would bring up some not so mature places in the script. She would give her suggestion. I remembered when we left I even told her, 'If I find an investor, I definitely would ask you!' Playing Sister Na's daughter in the film actually is Chan Nga Lei's daughter. During the costume fitting Chan Nga Lei even brought her daughter for Sister Na to get familiar with the baby. "Because Sister Na said that she didn't really know how to play with a baby! We all know how to deal with the baby, but once in her hands we would ignore her. My daughter just kept crying and she slowly picked it up."

After the film earlier was invited to the 23rd Udine Far East Film Festival competition, it also became the Hong Kong Asian Film Festival 2021 opening film and then invited to the Rising Sun International Film Festival competition in Japan. Speaking of whether she had confidence in Cheung Kai Chung and Chau Sau Na to win awards at various film awards? She said, "I do! I hope even more people would watch it at the movies. They both perform very well, I hope Sister Na can win Best Actress."

[2021.11.02] EMPEROR EYES CARLOS CHAN FOR TRIAD SEQUEL

10 years ago the William Chan Wai Ting, Derek Tsang Kwok Cheung and Edward Chui Woei Dong starred film TRIAD (JAT JIK) is still talked about today. Reportedly Emperor recently decided to make a sequel with Carlos Chan Ka Lok, Bosco Wong Chung Chak and Louis Cheung Kai Chung. The team earlier has made all the preparation and had a table read. The production is expected to begin officially next week.

[2021.11.02] EDAN LUI IS ANNOYED WITH "MOTHER" TERESA MO'S NAGGING?

Artist Teresa Mo Shun Kwan after working on a movie with MIRROR member Keung To recently worked on a new film with another member Edan Lui Jeuk On and played mother and son. Earlier they worked in Yuen Long and the shoot attracted several onlookers.

Around 4PM, 3 vehicles were already parked on the set with almost 20 workers getting ready. Edan changed his usual short hair look with a pony tail and a pair of glasses. Mo Shun Kwan was in a flannel shirt and jeans as well as light make up. During the shoot, Edan was in the driver's seat with a soup container in hand. As he worked with Mo Shun Kwan in the passenger seat he looked serious. After every take they would get out to watch the playback, then returned to the vehicle to shoot again. Edan put away his usually playful expression and entered the professionally serious mode. He seemed to be rather anxious about his performance, getting off the vehicle repeatedly to watch the replay without fail. The same shot finally took almost half a hour to complete. They then went to rest in separate vehicles.

After the crew got the lightning and the mark ready, they again returned to the vehicle. In another scene the "mother and son" conversed in the vehicle. Mo Shun Kwan after getting out nag "sonny". Edan looked annoyed, which upset "Mama" Mo Shun Kwan and she left. After several takes, the shoot was finally completed. After 6PM Edan after waving to the crew to bid farewell left.

Aside from the film, Edan also has to work on the new ViuTV series i.SWIM at the same time. Because the film was a government funded first feature film, in order to save on resources the production to be completed as soon as possible. Thus Edan had to work on both and everyday only had 2 or 3 hours of sleep.
