Two generations of young actors Dior Cheng Yee Kin (Ekin) and Ian Chan Cheuk Yin co-starred in the new film LAST SONG FOR YOU (GAU BIT CHUNG FUNG), the two collaborated for the first time and felt that they had similar experience. They were once not understood by the outside world, and could really relate to each other. With his troubled past, Ekin rarely revisited his romantic history. He admitted that because he did Not know how to deal with problems, even his work was questioned. He was under the pressure of public opinion, and had to rely on time to overcome the low point of his life. Ian said that his star journey was considered to be very smooth, but actually he has experienced a period of confusion. He felt that there was a big gap between the effort and the reward, questioned himself and felt frustrated.
Ekin Cheng and Ian played the adult and the youth version of So Sing Wa respectively in LAST SONG FOR YOU (GAU BIT CHUNG FUNG), telling the story of the Natalie Hsu (Hui Yan Yee) played the young version of Ha Man Huen, who met Ian and fell in love because of a record. In the blink of an eye, Ekin has become a musician but faced a creative bottleneck. When he fell into a low point in his life, he chose to escape and embark on a journey. On the way he met his old flame Ha Man Huen (Cecilia Choi Sze Wan), who has reached the end of her life at the hospital.
In real life, Ekin has been in the industry for 38 years has not felt that there has been a bottleneck, maybe in the eyes of others there has been stagnation. "My colleagues and fans around me may have requirements for me, sometimes they feel that I am stagnant and can do a better job. Actually no one knows what is the best, why do you think it is for the best so you put it on me?"
Ekin felt that his career has been so far so good. He had times when no one understood him, but not for work. When Gigi Leung Wing Kei was accused of intervening in his relationship with Maggie Siu Mei Kei, it became a hot talk. He said, "When there was a problem in the relationship, everyone had such drastic reaction. They all talked about this and that nonstop, then whatever I did was wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong. Actually what did I actually do? Just over a matter of personal relationships, they question my work and swarm all over the whole thing. The only way was to ignore them and let things continue to ferment." He admitted that it was a low point in his life at that time, overcoming it depended on time. Time could change everything, the most important thing was to know what he needed. If you are not clear, everyone would affect you and you would ask himself, "That's right, why would it be like this?"
Ekin said that during that time he recalled who he was and what he needed, then everything could be solved. H admitted that he was unhappy, "The outside public opinions didn't make me unhappy; I was unhappy myself, and I don't know how to deal with some things. (You didn't handle it well enough?) It wouldn't be no good, and It wouldn't be bad, in short. Ultimately when something happened I just accepted it." Did he start again after the matter settled? Ekin said, "I wouldn't say I started again. My job is to sing and make movies, I just do my best when I have a job." Speaking of his wife Yoyo Mung Ka Wai returning to school to study Japanese, he praised his wife for being great. No matter what level she has learned, as long as she can learn it she was OK.
Referring to the lack of filming in recent years, Ekin said that he has always produced little film. Not only him, with the current film market not doing well, many actors do not produce much. "You can't say the market shrank. When I entered the industry, everyone said that the market a already vey bad. I entered the industry too late, but I have been doing it for so many years; so no need to pay attention to it. Each generation is different, now movies may have changed to another genre." He said that he was attracted by the script of LAST SONG FOR YOU and took the role. It felt fresh, the actors and crew were all young, full of enthusiasm and energy. "Different and new things should happen in the entertainment industry in order to have an impact, not repetition after repetition." Ekin said that when he saw Ian as the young version in the film. He then remembered that he was just as silent when he entered the industry, "Ian is really quiet".
Ian was happy to work with Ekin and learned a pure mentality from him. He said that after entering the industry, things kept happening every day. No one should forget what they were originally, they should maintain the original purity. He admitted that he has felt lost, but found that he just has not adjusted. He has not lost himself. For the first time as the leading actor, he said that the rhythm was completely different from the previous TV productions. A TV series might shoot thirty or forty scenes a day. After saying a lot of dialogue, he had no time to digest and precipitate. For this film he was very lucky to meet this team, after each shoot director Leung Lai Yin would review it together, ask him how he felt. They would try again after adjustment, so that he could devote himself to the performance.
Ian, like the character, is passionate about music but has doubts about his own ability. "The outside world thinks everything has been so smooth for me. Of course I also think I'm very lucky, but in this world the grass is always greener on the other side. Maybe I've experienced something that hasn't gone well, but people haven't known about it. Before entering the industry I was an athlete, I just wanted to win in this competition. Whatever I was selected for, I practiced hard. The effort and the return were proportional. After entering the industry, the contrast was so great. The effort and hard work were not necessarily proportional, basically I have work hard, achieve my own specific standards; after finishing everything, I am still passive. Many things were still beyond my control and process. Because there is a gap, there would be doubts as well as frustration. I could only do my own thing, and the rest will go with the flow."
The new film talked about dreams. Ekin said that his dream of becoming an actor has been achieved, and becoming a singer was beyond expectations. He would be fine with whatever would happen in the future. Has Ian's dream come true? He said, "I didn't dream of making music; I just didn't want to do the same thing every day, but I wanted it to be meaningful. Now it's completely in line with it, making music, the audience will receive the message after listening to it. It is a task and a mission, and I have a lot of fun doing it. What challenge would I want in the future? A lot, for example, if you want to try different types of films and roles. Action movies are also OK, no limit, no idol baggage. I very rarely see myself as an idol."
