Hong Kong Box Office Co., Ltd. announced yesterday (27th) the "2024 Christmas Movie Box Office Trend", summarizing the box office revenue of the three-day Christmas schedule movies (Hong Kong and Macau) from December 24th to 26th, the Donnie Yen Chi Tan produced, directed and starred THE PROSECUTOR (NG POON) has become the 2024 Christmas box office champion, taking down the Disney animated film THE LION KING: MUFASA, and it was the top among the 5 Hong Kong films that have entered the top ten Christmas box office. Congratulations!
Among the films released this year's Christmas period, five Hong Kong films made it into the top 10. They were THE PROSECUTOR, THE LAST DANCE (POR. DEI YUK), LAST SONG FOR YOU (GAU BIT CHUNG FUNG), PAPA, and CESIUM FALLOUT (FUN SING). The top grossing THE PROSECUTOR earned $5,144,760 ($4,842,900 in Hong Kong) during the three-day Christmas period, while THE LAST DANCE earned $4,004,977 ($3,759,728 in Hong Kong). In fourth place was LAST SONG FOR YOU starring Dior Cheng Yee Kin and Ian Chan Cheuk Yin, which received $1,790,838 (Hong Kong box office $1,760,269). It was also in third place among the five Hong Kong films in the top ten box office.
Also, the box office revenue of this year's three-day Christmas period shows that the film consumption market in Hong Kong and Macao has increased slightly compared with last year; with the total box office revenue of Hong Kong and foreign films on this year's Christmas slate being HK$ 21,926,884 (Hong Kong box office HK$ 20,929,333). Compared with HK$ 20,526,223 (Hong Kong box office of HK$ 19,580,250) in the same period last year, there was a slight increase of 6.82% (Hong Kong box office increased slightly by 6.89%). However, in comparison to the Hong Kong box office of $32,848,164 in 2022, it fell by 36%; indicating that the operating environment of Hong Kong cinemas continues to be difficult.
In addition, the film company announced that THE PROSECUTOR opened on December 21st and has become the single-day box office champion for 6 consecutive days.
Friends Julian Cheung Chi Lam and Francis Ng Chun Yu worked together again on the Donnie Yen Chi Tan produced and starred new film THE PROSECUTOR (NG POO). Recently they spoke to HOYTV about the production.
Cheung Chi Lam said that on the set he would be very relieved whenever he would see Chun Yu, because there would definitely be good food. Cheung Chi Lam said that using foul language during filming was difficult, and joked that in this aspect he was not as good as Ng Chun Yu's easy on the ear and non-aggressive delivery.
Chun Yu in a scene challenged Yen Chi Tan to fight "one on one" in the film. He joked that he was speaking for everyone. "Yen Chi Tan has always been the Strongest in the Universe, one fights against ten. The audience really wants to see him being beaten, but this time he plays the prosecutor, how can he not be beaten? When he heard me Say that I wanted to fight, he gave the opportunity to beat him. Of course I don't dare to hit it hard. I haven't practiced martial arts. I am afraid that the shock wave from hitting him would fracture my bones!" Chun Yu also said that he was very happy to be able to play against "Ah Jeh" Liza Wang Ming Chuen. "Actually I would see Ah Jeh once in a while. She would see me and say, wow! How can you be so big! Actually she respectfully avoided using the word old. In addition after sharing the same dressing room as (Michael) Hui Koon Hui, I know that his private life is well behaved! Ha ha! I am just joking. I found that he has a curiosity about everything, as if he has not been to the city in a very long time. He will ask about and test anything." Cheung Chi Lam had more scenes with Ray Lui Leung Wai and Mark Cheng Ho Nam. He said that being able to work with the two elders was very pleasant.
Chun Yu recalled that when he was a child, he was once sentenced by his father without a trial. "I felt very uncomfortable. I usually misbehaved, but that time really was not my fault. So now with my son, that would happen very rarely. Because if I misunderstood him, he will react drastically; If he's really at fault, he'll make excuses and brush it aside."
