The 48th Golden Horse Film Festival's 10+10 film joint creative project opened already.  The film consisted of 20 directors' 5 minute short films.  Participating directors included Kevin Chu Yen Ping, Wu Nien-Jen, Chang Tso-Chi, Sylvia Chang (Cheung Ngai Ga), Chen Kuo-Fu, Leon Dai, Wei Te-Sheng, Hou Hsiao-Hsien and others.  Golden Horse chair Hou Hsiao-Hsien worked with Shu Qi and Mei Fang on THE GOLDEN STRING.  In the story a mother was afraid that her daughter would need money after marriage and left her a gold tile, which symbolized inheritance.  Hou Hsiao-Hsien said that "gold" was something that absolutely would not change, and "string" was a value and a belief.  "Golden String" meant a value that would not change.

Shu Qi, Mei Fang and Director Hou earlier appeared at the opening ceremony press conference.  Director Hou praised Shu Qi's deeper and deeper acting abilities.  She only needed the slightest of hints to be able to perform the feeling that he wanted.  However Shu Qi said that some of THE GOLDEN STRING's content was too impractical.  For example in the film the mother wanted to give her daughter gold for emergency money.  Shu Qi said that after the film she went home and asked her mother for gold.  Finally her mother said, "You have to give it to me, not me to you."  She joked that now the times have changed, daughters had to buy gold for mothers.

Shu Qi with BEAUTIFUL LIFE received a Golden Horse Best Actress nomination.  When asked about her confidence, Shu Qi humbly said, "Actually I feel like I already got it.  The nomination to me already is a type of recognition.  The competition actually is very strong."  As for the now very popular Michelle Chen, Shu Qi had nothing but compliment for her potential.  She said that in HEAR ME Michelle Chen has already touched her.  Director Hou said that Taiwan film's potential has already reached a mature level and even saw a lot of variety in Taiwan film development, which was Taiwan's advantage.

Zhang Ziyi with the film LOVE FOR LIFE (JUI OI) won the sixth Rome Film Festival award for elegance and temperament and broke the streak of the award going to Italian actresses.  With the award in hand Zhang Ziyi said  with a smile, "This trip to Rome has been like an Italian feast, the award is like a bottle of champagne that was saved for our final celebration."

The film festival presented this award to Zhang Ziyi mainly for the numerous bright spots that she created in her art life.  The committee said, "She mixes strong performance abilities with harmony and elegant grace, all of which have been thoroughly on display in movies like CROUCHING TIGER HIDDEN DRAGON, HERO, HOUSE OF FLYING DAGGERS, MEMOIR OF A GEISHA and LOVE FOR LIFE.   No one is more deserving of this award for elegance and temperament than her."  Dressed in pink Zhang Ziyi first greeted everyone in Chinese then said in English, "First I would like to thank the Rome Film Festival for giving me this honor.  Film to me is everything.  Since age 17 film has occupied my life.  Such an encouragements very important to actors."  She also did not forget to emotionally thank director Gu Changwei.

Zhang Ziyi humorously said with the award when asked about being the first Chinese actress to win this Rome Film Festival award, "This trip to Rome has been like a rich Italian feast, the award is like a bottle of champagne that was saved for our final celebration."  She also said that she was very relaxed on this trip to Rome.  "I hope this small budget film would get more recognition.  If through the influence of this film festival even more people can experience the feelings that the film delivers, this is my greatest wish."  Gu Changwei also said that she already received a lot from this production, so this trip was more relaxing.  He said, "Through this film, Ziyi again returned to the sight of European viewers, which pleases me very much.  Making a movie is like putting together a party.  LOVE FOR LIFE has so many excellent actors, everyone performed so outstandingly.  Everyone because of the film have a period of time that they spent 'together', which was enough.  I have to thank everyone."

The Chapman To Man Jat directed new film DIVA yesterday began work at the Clearwater Bay studio.  Joey Yung Cho Yi, Mag Lam Yun Tung, Carlos Chan Ka Lok were present.  Recently a Mainland tabloid claimed that Joey and Denise Ho Wan Si were secretly married.  Yesterday Joey directly called it crazy.  "I don't need to be afraid of anything that isn't fact, otherwise what I am going to do when next issue says I
am pregnant!"

Joey and Cheng Ka Wai who played her assistant worked on a scene in which they got out of a vehicle.  Because she had to five inch high heels, Joey was very careful when she walked.  Joey said, this film will be completed within days.  In order to this character well she used a lot of her own clothes.  She said that she would spend seven figures on clothes every year.

As for this performance, she revealed that she had to dress up for the character and used three cases of clothes.  Now her home was like a warehouse.  Joey said, "If I have to buy pretty clothes the entire film's budget wouldn't be enough!"  Joey frankly said that the pressure of this film was not at the box office but the emotional upheaval during the production.  She said, "Because I have to cry in this film, I have to be very sentimental and argue with Ah Jat who plays my manager!"  She also mentioned that in real life she has argued in real life with Mani Fok Man Hei about interviews before her concert.  She said, "Because at the time I wanted to focus on the concert, I was emotional when I discussed it with Mani."

A Mainland tabloid claimed that Joey and Ah Si were secretly married and the rumor spread like crazy online.  Joey helplessly said, "I never read it!  I just feel it's crazy!  I wouldn't."  Was she afraid that it would scare off fans?  She stressed that she did not need to be afraid of anything that was not fact.  She said, "Anything can happen in the world, tabloids report things that aren't true for sales and exceed my bottom line!"  Joey joked that next month she might be rumored to be pregnant.  Thus if she was not affected much she would try to ignore it.  Recently Joey's junior colleague Chan Ka Lok and Lam Yun Tung were rumored to have grown closer due to the film.  They were very hesitant yesterday.  Lam Yun Tung said, "We date in the film, off the scene we are good friends.  We have only known each other for a few weeks."  She also said that she did no idea what she would look for in a guy; Ka Lok however said that he liked girl next door like Lam Yun Tung.  When asked whether he would start pursuing her, he said, "I am afraid that her fans would beat me."

[2011.11.05] TONY LEUNG CHIU WAI DISPLAYS HIS ELECTRIC EYES AND MAGIC HANDS

courtesy of singtao.com

The Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Lau Ching Wan and Zhou Xun starred Emperor Motion Picture GREAT MAGICIAN (DAI MOR SHOOK SI) earlier unveiled the first "magic" themed trailer.  Leung Chiu Wai not only displayed his Best Actor acting abilities but also magic.  Reportedly the film had no less than 50 magic tricks, thus the trailer was only the tip of the iceberg.

The Bona film industry, Emperor Motion Picture co-release, Derek Yee Tung Sing directed, Leung Chiu Wai, Lau Ching Wan and Zhou Xun's holiday giant production GREAT MAGICIAN's first "magic" themed trailer
had Leung Chiu Wai's agile performance.  Wai Jai's pair of electric eyes also hid a secret in the film.  Director Yee Tung Sing said that Wai Jai's magic performance would be almost half the film.  He not only was a natural born actor but also a natural born magician.  As someone who has never been in touch with magic before the shoot, in THE GREAT MAGICIAN he did not look like an amateur at all.

Aside from Leung Chiu Wai's performance in the trailer, Lau Ching Wan and Zhou Xun's appearance also had quite a presence.  Lau Ching Wan's eyes were full of the evil warlord's nature.  Zhou Xun as a woman of an acrobat family appeared heavy and at ease.  Her looks were unusually reserved.
