The 44th Hong Kong Film Awards Ceremony would be held at the Hong Kong Culture Center on April 19, and the event yesterday released photos of Best Supporting Actor nominees Peter Chan Charm Man, Ben Yuen Fu Wah, Wong Yau Nam, Locker Lam Ka Hei and Alex To Tak Wai, as well as Best Supporting Actress nominees Elizabeth Tang To, Kara Hui (Wai Ying Hung, Michelle Wai Sze Nga, Nina Paw Hee Ching and Joyce Tang Lai Ming.
This year, the competition for Best Supporting Actress is fierce as the two newcomers are fighting against 3 Best Actresses. Three time Best Actress and twice Best Supporting Actress Wai Ying Hung is nominated for DUMPLING QUEEN (SHUI GAU WONG HAU), and fellow Best Actresses Paw Hee Ching and Wai Sze Nga are nominated for SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT (FUNG LUM FOR SHAN) and CIAO, UFO (JOI GEIN UFO) respectively. Tang Lai Ming and Tang To are competing for Best Supporting Actress for the first time with BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI) and GIRLFRIENDS (NUI HAI BUT PING FAN), and Tang To is also nominated for Best New Performer.
"Triple Golden Best Supporting Actors" Yuen Fu Wah has won the Golden Horse Award, the Hong Kong Film Award and the Golden Rooster Award for Best Supporting Actor. This time he is nominated for DUMPLING QUEEN, in which he played the role of "Uncle Tong Shui" and took the lead in winning the Golden Rooster Award with his life-like performance. In the industry for 40 years, To Tak Wai won the Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild Best Supporting Actor for SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT, and his strength cannot be ignored. Wong Yau Nam was nominated for Best New Performer at the 22nd Hong Kong Film Awards for JUST ONE LOOK (YUT LOOK JEH) and HOLLYWOOD HONG KONG (HEUNG GONG YAU GOR HOR LEI WOOT), and is nominated for Best Supporting Actor for the first time after many years with CIAO, UFO. The new generation actor Lam Ka Hei is among the Best Supporting Actors nominees for the first time with FIGHTING FOR TOMORROW (PING MING SAM LONG).
