Artist Frances Shi Ming passed away from pneumonia earlier. Having taken care of his mother for many years, her son Augustine Lee Wing Hon was deeply saddened and stated that the saddest thing was to announce the bad news to his father Steve Lee Ka Ding. He recalled that his father's first reaction was to ask, "Why didn't you notify me earlier?" Yet after learning that he wanted his mother to rest in peace and took care of everything alone, he expressed great comfort. In poor health in recent years, Lee Ka Ding upon learning about the passing of his ex-wife also found it hard to accept.

Lee Ka Ding's ex-wife Shi Ming died of pneumonia on the 21st of last month at the age of 74, and the news shocked the entertainment industry. She has undergone brain surgery a few years ago, but she has been bravely fighting the disease. Originally she has gone home to recuperate and hoped to recover then return to filming, but now she has passed away. The one with the most difficulty with accepting it was her son Lee Wing Hon, who has been responsible for taking care of her. "In order to let Ma rest in peace, I have to pack up my mood and deal with the aftermath. Because for a Buddhist the first few days are very important with rituals and scriptures chants, so at first when I told Pa that Mama was dead, his first reaction was denial. He even asked, 'Why did you notify me so late?' I said I didn't want to be unruly, I wanted to give Ma some peace. When he learned that I have already taken care of all the arrangements, he felt very comforted."

Lee Ka Ding and Shi Ming have been divorced for a long time, but they still regarded each other as relatives. Now that his ex-wife has passed away suddenly, he was very heartbroken. Yesterday many friends have called to console him but have not been able to get through. In recent years Lee Ka Ding has suffered from gastritis and once lost more than 20 pounds. He said that his current diet should be moderate, and he should try to avoid sour and hot foods. Earlier he was seen with Wing Hon at a prayer event. He is about to turn 80, but he has made it clear that he will not celebrate his birthday: "I want to spend it in a low-key manner."

Shi Ming was born into an acting family, and her relatives in the circle include her uncle James Wong Jim, fifth aunt Hua Wa, brother- in-law Patrick Dunn Tse Fung and cousin Ursule Wong Yu Sze. Regarding Shi Ming's death, Dunn Tse Fung replied by text message, "It's too sudden, so it's hard for my wife to accept it. Actually Sister Shi Ming has had a very hard time in the past few years, as she has been in and out of the hospital from time to time. May she rest in peace and her family be in good health." As for Shi Ming's cousin Wong Yu Sze, she said, "I have had less contact with Shi Ming in recent years, the most important thing is that Lee Wing Hon and Lee Wing Ho take good care." Liza Wang Ming Chuen once collaborated with Shi Ming in the drama HEAVEN SWORD AND DRAGON SABER, she said frankly, "I rarely had scenes with her back then, but she and Li Ka Ding were very good at riding and taught me, so I am more familiar with Lee Ka Ding."
