[2009.08.09] YOUNG MODELS ARE NOT AS SEXY AS MCDULL
[2009.08.09] DEREK YEE URGES JOHNNIE TO NOT TO BE ANGRY
Johnnie To Kei Fung recently criticized Hong Kong "superstars" as troublesome. Two nights ago Derek Yee Tung Sing at a film celebration expressed that he met some stuck up actors who in general were "asteroids". He even claimed that years ago he wanted to see an actor but after four appointments he only met with his manager. He blamed some managers for ruining their actors' future.
Siu Bo two nights ago celebrated with the OVERHEARD (SIT TING FUNG BO) cast, including Louis Koo Tin Lok, Lau Ching Wan and Daniel Wu (Ng Yin Cho) for the film's 8 day Hong Kong box office of 8 million and 75 million RMB in the Mainland. Siu Bo expressed that the investors planned for a sequel. This film already qualified for a Korean Film Festival and the actors had a chance at Best Actor, Siu Bo immediately praised Ching Wan as his character was the hardest to play. However Goo Jai's character stole more scenes. To Kei Fung recently claimed that Hong Kong "superstars" were troublesome, unlike foreign stars who were not arrogant. Siu Bo said, "Individual ones are! Not everyone is like this. Some 'asteroids' would be." He felt that the actors might not be at fault, sometimes their managers were the problem. He stated, "Several years ago I wanted to talk with an actor about a character, but after four disappointment I only saw his manager. The actor might not even know about this. (Has he become an 'asteroid'?) He still has some twinkle. If he still has the same manger now, I wouldn't dare to approach him again!"
He also said that he and To Kei Fung have been in the business for several decades and did not need to put up with such arrogance. He urged To not to be angry. He also said, "Actually being polite is fine. I don't need you to respect me. My demand is very low. When I was an actor I was pretty arrogant, after experiencing them I don't need to blame these people." He also quoted Feng Xiaogang, "We don't lack stars, but we also don't rely on stars."
Goo Jai recently is working on his new film POKER KING. Due to constant late night work he did not feel well, but Ching Wan praised him as very tough. Goo Jai said, "Usually the shoot goes for a dozen or so hours. I don't get to sleep. When I sleep I feel like I am paralyzed." He said that his record for going without sleep was when he made FANTASIA (GWAI MA KONG SEUNG KUK) when he did not sleep for four days. Was he confident about being able to break the record? He frowned and said, "Yes!"
After POKER Goo Jai will work on the Yee Tung Sing directed CHEUNG WONG JI WONG (GUN KING OF KINGS). Yee Tung Sing once expressed that he would install air conditioning at the locations but joked that actors should be responsible for the air conditioning fee because actor salary wsa expensive. Goo Jai knew the director was joking but said, "No big deal, I pay for air conditioning then." As far as he knew CHEUNG will be just as tough because the film will shoot in outdoor competition sites and also a overpass chase scene.
[2009.08.09] CHARLENE CHOI CONSIDERS TO BE A JING GIRL FOR SANDRA NG
Charlene Choi Cheuk Yin recently was rumored to have landed Wong Jing's new film MEI LAI MUK LING (BEAUTIFUL SECRET ORDER) and will appear in swimwear. Yesterday Ah Sa was surprised and said that the film was still in negotiation and not confirmed yet. However, Ah Sa honestly said that she would like to work with the film's other actress Sandra Ng Kwan Yu again. She said, "I only know the film also has Ng Kwan Yu. Earlier when we made ALL'S WELL ENDS WELL 2009 (GA YAU HEI SI 2009) we only had one scene, so I hope to have even more scenes with her this time. Comedy is my favorite, but right now it is in negotiation. (Are you raising the price for swimwear?) No, the new script is still being prepared. I have to look at the details." She also said that her character originally was a cop but she had to go undercover at a beauty pageant. The other candidates might be very buxom so she was afraid of comparison. She said, "Because the story is about my reluctance to compete, the swimwear should not be in ordinary style. If it's a scuba suit then it's great!" She also pointed out that this was not a part of the LOVE UNDERCOVER (SUN JAT SI MUI) series so she was not afraid of comparison to Miriam Yeung Chin Wa.

[2009.08.08] ON HIS MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE OPENS BIG
The Wong Jing directed comedy ON HIS MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE (DAI NOI MUK TAM LING LING BAU) opened nationwide on July 30. After a week the box office approached 60 million RMB and Mainland China's summer Chinese film champion.
The film yesterday opened in Hong Kong and followed the Mainland trend with nearly 1 million in opening day box office. OVERHEARD had more screens than ON but had less same day box office. Cinemas saw the strong momentum and asked for more shows and special screenings to meet the audience demand. The director and the cast were excited to hear the news as it proved Hong Kong comedy had a market and was able to cheer up the audience. Reportedly the director already prepared a celebration for the cast and the crew. He wished that laughter would continue to erupt and box office would rise.

[2009.08.07] SEVEN LITTLE FORTUNES 50TH ANNIVERSARY: YUEN BIAO'S FATAL DART, JACKIE CHAN ESCAPED CATASTROPHE
"Ha Ling Chun, I am going to kill you!" In the film ROB B HOOD (BO BUI GAI WAT)'s end credit outtakes, Jackie Chan because Yuen Biao flubbed a line had to perform a series of dangerous stunts all over again. He was so angry that he joked about killing Yuen Biao as a release. Actually earlier when they were at the China Drama Academy, Yuen Biao instead nearly took Jackie Chan's life.
Jackie Chan in his autobiography through Big Brother Sammo Hung Kam Bo's mouth told his relationship with Yuen Biao. Jackie Chan wrote, "Yuen Biao had a stomache and started to groan. Yuen Wah said, 'I heard for an upset stomach, smoking is a good solution'. In order to save Yuen Biao's life, someone had to sneak into the Master's room to steal a few cigarettes. When we discussed who was the most suitable for the job, Big Brother said, 'Big Nose should do it because Yuen Biao is your best friend.'" Jackie Chan was willing to take the risk for Yuen Biao, obviously they were close.
Resource Shortage, Lucky To Eat
As Yuen Biao analyzed earlier, in childhood Seven Little Fortunes' friendship mainly was built on the word "eat" then the word "play". Children's behavior is often the most sincere and direct. In an age of resource shortage, such honesty was even more obvious. Yuen Biao says, "At the time we didn't have many toys to play with. Sometimes we were out of stuff to play with. We picked up a broken umbrella to take apart then sharped it for an arrow. We had fun like that. Once my parents came to visit me at school and bought a box of toy darts for me to play with. The disciples rarely saw toys and immediately came over. So I hung up the target and played. After the first one I was going to throw the second and the third dart, suddenly Jackie Chan darted toward the target. They thought that he would pull the darts for his turn. I didn't expect him to be in such a hurry. In the end 'pop' the dart went to his mouth."
The dart is blind. If it hit the eye instead of the mouth the result would have been devastating. Of course there is a price to pay for fun. This time was luck amid a catastrophe.
Parents Cared, Not From A Rich Family
Perhaps due to the catastrophe, they became more mature. Yuen Biao talked about claims that when he was studying at the China Drama Academy his family was already rich, that he even had a maid who came to the school to bathe him. Yuen Biao denied the claims and pointed out that he did not have that spoilt brat temper. He says, "Back then water restriction was in effect, no one had any water. My parents knew I was too little to take care of myself, everyday they brought water for me to bathe with; they knew that the school's food wasn't great so they brought food to the school for me. All of those were only because my parents cared about me!" (44)

Louis Koo Tin Lok and Barbie Hsu (Tsui Hei Woon) two nights ago attended the film ON HIS MAJESTY'S SECRET SERVICE (DAI NOI MUK TAM LING LING GAU) premiere. As for rumors, Big S said that she did not feel Goo Jai has sent any love signal to her. She was afraid of ending up in gossip with male co-stars every time and no one would offer her another role. However she honestly said that she admired Goo Jai.
Although they appeared to be gracious throughout, Goo Jai seemed displeased with rumors that they have been secretly dating for a year. At first he only responded, "No comment!" Then when asked whether he would take Big S to dinner after the premiere, he said with frustration that he has repeatedly said that after the premiere he would have to rush back to Macau for a movie shoot. He also said that he would not feel awkward over the matter. However when asked about OVERHEARD (SIT TING FUNG WON) and ACCIDENT (YI OI)'s Korea Film Festival and Venice Film Festival Best Actor competition, he smiled and said that many friends praised his performance, thus he was confident about winning.
Two nights aside from the two leads, Louis Fan Siu Wong and Maggie Lee Man Kwan, guests included JJ Jia (Ga Hiu Sun), Patrick Tam Yiu Man, Natalie Meng Yao, Liu Yang, Elaine Lok Yi Ling, Bosco Wong Chung Chak, Tracy Ip Chui Chui and others. The film after four days in release in the Mainland made 35 million RMB and already became this year's summer Chinese film champion.
