The movie BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI) was officially released on December 31st, 2025. Following the opening day box office record of $11,299,366 (Hong Kong dollars, the same below) in Hong Kong and Macau, the movie received more good news on the first day of 2026. BACK TO THE PAST's Hong Kong and Macau cumulative box office has officially surprise $20 million. After two days in release the film recorded $21,743,937 and set the record for exceeding 10 million at Hong Kong and Macau box office for two consecutive days, as the momentum continued to rise.

After the main creators Louis Koo Tin Lok, Raymond Lam Fung, Jessica Hester Hsuan (Suen Huen) and Kevin Chu Kam Yin learned of the good results the night before, they immediately made a video to report the good news to the audience and thank them. They even transformed into the characters in the film in a fun little sketch, and the atmosphere was lively. In the film, Chu Kam Yin as Hong Bo Yi presented lemon tea to Koo Tin Lok as his father Hong Siu Lung and Raymond Lam Fung, as Chiu Poon, the King of Qin. "Dad, king! The lemon tea is ready!" Koo Tin Lok asked rhetorically: "Is it really ready?" Immediately afterwards, Suen Huen s Wu Ting Fong entered the shot and said with a smile, "We have good news to announce to everyday on the first day of 2026!" Chu Kam Yin excitedly relayed the good news, "The cumulative box office BACK TO THE PAST in Hong Kong has exceeded 20 million!" Finally, Koo Tin Lok led the other three to shout in unison, "Everyone continue to support BACK TO THE PAST!"

The 2025 Hong Kong film box office total revenue fell nearly 16% from two years ago, the situation has become quite concerning. The Hong Kong Box Office Co. Ltd. yesterday announced the overall film market condition between January 1st to December 31st 2025. The year's total revenue was HK$ 1.13 billion, a drop of 15.79% from 1.34 billion two years ago. Last year's highest grossing film was the Japanese animation DEMON SLAYER: KIMETSU NO YAIBA THE MOVIE -- INFINITY CASTLE with HK$ 97.6 million at the Hong Kong box office. As for the top ten highest grossing Hong Kong films, on top remained the currently in release ANOTHER WORLD (SAI OI) with HK$ 15.115 million. In second was THE WAY WE TALK (HONG NGOR GUM TIN JUM MOR SUET). In third PEG O' MY HEART (SHOOK MUNG). The HK$ 400 million production SONS OF THE NEON NIGHT (FUNG LUM FOR SHAN) came in fifth with HK$ 11.397 million.

Worth of note was that the December 31st release BACK TO THE PAST opened with HK$ 11.09 million and immediately placed 7th in Hong Kong for the year, and was also the second highest opening box office in Hong Kong. The 2019 opening of AVENGERS: ENDGAME remained on top.
