The Louis Koo Tin Lok directed, produced, and starred with Raymond Lam Fung and Jessica Hester Hsuan (Suen Huen) movie BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI) after 11 days in release has exceeded HK$ 60 million at the box office in Hong Kong and Macau. The three of them attended the audience appreciation screenings with Kevin Chu Kam Yin the day before yesterday, and the other actors divided into multiple teams to launch more than 20 audience appreciation activities. Everyone thanked the audience in their own way. Koo Tin Lok jokingly told Lam Fung to "drag the audience out and behead them"; a young fan asked if Koo Tin Lok would shoot a 2 installment, and he said he would consider it. "BACK TO THE PAST" was released in different places, including Singapore, Malaysia, the Netherlands and Belgium, and entered the top ten local box office charts right after its release in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
"BACK TO THE PAST" was released on December 31st last New Year's Eve. As of the day before yesterday, its Hong Kong and Macau cumulative box office was HK$ 60,692,294. In addition to the simultaneous release in Malaysia and Singapore, the film will be released in many overseas regions, including the UK and Ireland on January 2st, the Netherlands on January 8th, and Taiwan on January 9th. Australia and New Zealand are scheduled for January 15th; Belgium, which has rarely introduced Hong Kong films, will release the film on January 16th, and the United States and Canada will be released on January 30th, allowing more audiences to watch BACK TO THE PAST on the big screen and set off a wave of collective memories.
BACK TO THE PAST after its U.K and Ireland release has rapidly broken into the box office there. According to Comscore data and the British Film Distributors' Association (FDA) announced "UK and Ireland Current Top 15", it ranked 9th as of January 5th and recorded a weekend box office of 251,825 pounds (about HK$2,631,651).
Koo Tin Lok and Suen Huen returned to Hong Kong after completing their promotion in Taiwan, and met up with Lam Fung and Chu Kam Yin at the theater the day before yesterday to thank the audience. Other actors such as Joyce Tang Lai Ming, Wong Man Piu, Jimmy Au Sui Wai, Power Chan Kwok Bong, Edward Chui Woei Dong, Julius Brian Siswojo (Lee Kai Yin), Eric Tsui Ho Cheong, Chris Collins and Kumer So Chun Yu divided up the tasks and attended more than 20 audience appreciation events. Tickets for many shows were sold out quickly, and the live atmosphere was warm. When Lam Fung thanked the audience, he smiled and said that in order to thank the audience who has watched BACK TO THE PAST 20 times, he would "drag someone out and beheaded them" with his own hands, which caused the audience to laugh. Koo Tin Lok then corrected, "Since they have seen it 20 times, and he (Lam Fung) would drag you out to hug you!" Lam Fung and the live audience shouted "wow".
A young fan asked if he would shoot the second installment? Koo Tin Lok joked, "A STEP INTO THE PAST would have a second episode! Don't wow yet, let me say it again; when you go back to watch the TV series, after watching the first episode, you watch the second episode right away. You can't skip to the third episode, okay? It has 40 episodes still." He immediately said to the little fan seriously, "I would consider it." Chu Kam Yin played Koo Tin Lok and Suen Huen's son Hong Bo Yi in the film. When asked which part of the mother and son were the most similar, Suen Huen smiled and said the eyes. Koo Tin Lok praised his "son" as handsome. "Fortunately the ancient times didn't have many girls for him to chase." When he learned that Chu Kam Yin's mother was present, Koo Tin Lok changed his tune and said, "Don't worry, he is very well-behaved!"
Koo Tin Lok was recently interviewed and said that he has been preparing for an extended version of "BACK TO THE PAST". Because many plots have been cut out before, such as family plots and some actors' scenes, the film must reach a certain number of box office before the extended version would be released. He has mentioned when thanking the audiences before that one scene in the film had the third endings, and the plot was that Miu Kiu Wai hid the receiver in Hong Siu Lung's house.
The Best Actor Louis Koo Tin Lok and Raymond Lam Fung starred movie BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI) continued to have a market and momentum. Recently some discerning viewers found that when the show ended, they actually found "Special thanks to Jennifer Yu Heung Ying" in the end credits but could not find even a shadow of her in the entire film! Actually Yu Heung Ying was invited to dub the Cantonese dialogue for the mainland actress Bai Baihe played Michael Miu Kiu Wai's daughter "Galie". After the news was exposed, many people thought that the actress's dubbing was "synchronized in sound and appearance". Her gentle voice definitely expressed the character's intellect and kind- heartedness.
Aside from the "addition" of Yu Heung Ying, the entire film could be considered as "littered with stars". Viewers who went to see the movie would not have a hard time with discovering "guest stars" including Fish Liew Chi Yu as Louis Cheung Kai Chung's wife, "Military General" Calvin Choy Yat Chi, "mountain fortress villagers" Andrew Chan Chun Ting and Belinda Yan Zifei, etc., and the long-lost actress Michelle Saram (Suet Yi) only made a light appearance at the Easter egg at the end. All of them performed regardless of the number of scenes, silently contributing to this film that has so far grossed HK$320 million at the global box office.
