The "Next Shot" Youth Short Film Competition 2025 Award Ceremony and the Hong Kong Youth Short Film Competition 2026 Launching Ceremony were held yesterday, with the Film and Television Artistic Director of Bauhinia Culture Group Deng Mougui, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Arts Development Council Kenneth Fok Kai Kong, as well as Jennifer Yu Heung Ying, John Chong Ching, Angus Chan Law Chiu, Mabel Cheung Yuen Ting, Stanley Kwan Kam Peng, Jacob Cheung Chi Leung, Tin Kai Man, etc. as award presenters. This year 418 short films in the competition unit and 213 scripts in the venture capital unit were collected, and 8 awards in the competition unit and 7 funding projects in the venture capital unit were selected.
Speaking at the ceremony, the General Manager of the organizer Sil-Metropole Organization Limited Ding Kai said, "When the Sil- Metropole Organization started, the new wave of Hong Kong cinema was booming and we were honored to have participated in and supported the creative journey of many young directors. Sil-Metropole Organization continues to pay attention to and find a new generation of filmmakers with cinematic awareness and creative consciousness, encouraging them to use their cameras to ask questions about the world. We have turned past experiences and legacy ideas into action. Since 2016, we have supported more than 20 young directors, of which more than 7 have completed or are in the process of making their feature film debuts. We look forward to seeing these works at this stage as they continue to develop, transform, and move to a wider screen in the future."
Yu Heung Ying said that she will go to Taiwan for 5 days to meet and communicate with local audiences of her Lunar New Year film DOUBLE HAPPINESS (SEUNG HEI), and would be able to return to Hong Kong to celebrate the New Year with her family before the Lunar New Year. Speaking of her trip to Taiwan, she said frankly, "I am very nervous because this is my first time participating in a Taiwan film. It is also the first time that my work has been released in the Lunar New Year and meeting the audiences there. This is a family-friendly light comedy. Warm and a little touching, I like it very much. In addition this is the first time I have worked with Tin Kai Man to play father and daughter, which is very rare." She laughed and said that Tin Kai Man was completely "in charge of the comedy" in the film, and the audience who watched the preview shows laughed as soon as they saw him appear. Yu Heung Ying even revealed an interesting story during the filming, "Tin Kai Man is really very funny. In one scene everyone was less than professional, the actors present couldn't help but laugh out loud many times. After ten bad takes, even the director couldn't help but speak up to remind everyone." Referring to future plans, she said that she will start filming a new Hong Kong film between April and May. She is currently trying different acting paths, details of which will be announced later; she also expressed her eagerness to act in comedy again and hoped to participate in the filming of Hong Kong-made Lunar New Year films. Meanwhile DOUBLE HAPPINESS will open on the Lunar New Year's Day in Taiwan and on the Lunar 10th in Hong Kong. Jennifer even revealed that her daughter has been looking forward to the film.
Regarding her providing her voice for mainland actress Bai Baihe in the film BACK TO THE PAST (CHUM CHUN GEI), Jennifer revealed that she suddenly received the invitation and felt a little surprised. Because she knew that this film has been highly regarded and the hard work of her boss Louis Koo Tin Lok, she was very grateful to provide her voice for the important character.
